if you want to pilot your own ships and not only command and conquer, just find a ship that you seem to enjoy piloting (in my example it was, again, a phaseshi), i sucked ass so phasing in and out made me not receive three reapers to my face. through that i actually could play the game, and then understand how combat generally works. just get something that you like a lot and that you don't die a lot.
i actually tried returning to command only about two playthroughs ago cuz i wanted to feel refreshed and it did feel nice.
Only if you do that during important, run-defining battles. Nobody cares if you do it to random pirate trash throwing themselves into your Onslaughts for the sixth time that week.
Been trying to nail down a mod for a while. Wanted to see what you guys thought of it. I want it to be unique without just being vanilla kitbashes, or a super special snowflake OC faction. It's more akin to a boss rush faction with unique ships.

Think this is a good concept? I've got a bunch more underway, like a robot general who flies a phase cruiser that can permanently stay cloaked and is basically unkillable to any of your ships, but another phase ship can lay a bomb in his path, which will rip him out of warp space and stun him.
This honestly sounds kind of moronic but also kind of funny, HOWEVER automated ships suck ass because you need a skill to even have them in your fleet and another skill to pilot them yourself. Do keep that in mind.
Oh yeah, I'm supposed to let people recover a supercapital that can field 100 wings of fighters, never loses combat readiness, and has 5000 ordinance points and 50 built-in hullmods.
The reason people are finding this dumb is because once you are at the point that you can defeat the 9001 superBlack person capital deathship you have already beat the game, might as well let them use the cheat ship and go on a victory killing spree afterwards

Her newer portrait despite being AI-made is pretty good. Much more in place than Legio or UAF. Mayu for some reason does what other mods needed and delivers it nicely. Unfortunately, development for SC has slowed down for a moment. That said, where did her clone go?
Configure legio to be pirates? When I was playing they were just sitting in their system and not letting me do contraband from their biggest planet. I've heard that they're supposed to go apocalyptic on everyone in the late game, but it's not like I don't restart 7 times a week so I've never seen it

In brief:
'Somebody' randomly posted a ship sprite asking for feedback, one anon compared the design to that of a vegana. The resembalance was not lost on us and it quickly gained the monkier 'sloppy vegana' The poster was not amused and started having a full-sperg at everybody in the thread. We were amused.
Shortly after Noah was on the discord having a sperg-out about how the people here were picking on him and comparing his ship design to a vegana. Said sperg-out was re-posted here for all to see.
...a few weeks later ... and a few more minor rants on the discord...
Noah posts a revised version of his sloppy vegana here, he claimed that somebody had stolen his sprites prematurely and posted them without permission... he was called out, we laughed hard and he proceeds to have another sperg. He then goes back to the discord, continues his sperging about us and calls on members of the discord to rally together to report the thread and get us shut down. The discord mocked him for this, and we mocked him for this.
Following on from this, Noah continued to have intermittent rants on the discord while refining his sprite because his sloppy vegana was being reposted here (possibly by him) and mocked. Mods warned him to stfu, and shortly after a witch-hunt began on the disord for our 'spy', because re-posting discord drama on here (to 'trigger' someone) is a bannable offense.

More or less. There's a few extra graphical files you need to replace, and you want to replace the ship hull file and variants files. The stats don't actually change so you don't need to touch ship_hull.csv.

been modding for a while now and I thought I'd attempt some actual story stuff. here's a vertical slice of the stinger shipyards euterpe storyline. bit of a proof of concent, still needs some polish but this is what it'll be like, more or less.
it was a conundrum alright. a good chunk of the ui code is obsfucated and what little isn't just barely allows me to move the entire ui instance.
now, the image needs to be big for one. I have a lot of plans, like the player being able to choose her outfit (have a few that's already illustrated w/variants, just a matter of implementing it) I can't render anything below text as the image rendering takes priority for a reason I can't figure out (again, obsfucated code) so I can't just make the dialogue box slim and move it down like a vn dialogue box
so I came up with this compromise.

The chick than commands the planet refuses to say anything worthwhile, even if you kill the fleet and ask her about the planetkiller. If you tell the Heg about Sentinel it becomes a level 3 sized colony. What I wonder is if you can tell Daud about it, I've never found Sentinel before doing his quest so I got no clue there.

Both Tahlan and UAF have been two of the more blatant examples, 90% of posters in those threads have less than 5 posts to their name. Alex did a wipe of single post accounts a while back and both those threads lost close to 1000 posts.
He doesn't want to ban those mod(ers) because they are popular and he's also reluctant to put an auto-ban in place because he doesn't want to drive away genuine posters but the mods do have a green light to permaban any accounts that consists of "Your mod is really good." and nothing more.

I like the concept of battlecarriers but uhhh they all just feel shit. fighters feel like crap and your cruisers/capitals are gimped with less weapons slots and OP to work with
I like the XIV Legion. But what makes it good is that it's good at being "battle" and it's good at being "carrier", not that it's good at being both at the same time, because you're right, battlecarriers are a shitty compromise that gives you a ship that's not very good at either of the things it's trying to be.
Opposite. They're overpowered base stat wise but get nerfed when the player uses them. This has the hilarious side effect of making shit like detachments from Nex/IE overpowered as frick.

it took the creator ten years to get it to 96 because it's actually got cool additions that weren't there before. i really like the hologuide guy.
worst thing for anyone here might be portraits with animal ears but otherwise it doesn't have weird shit. one of my favorite portraits actually comes from it.

Good operatives are hilariously broken. Given a year or two there isn't an alliance they can't break, or an enemy they can't keep off your back. I just turned my important planets into unkillable fortresses, then peaced out anyone threatening my colonies while I opportunistically killed off whoever I needed dead.

I'm going to be honest, I don't really like Mayasura. The ships are boring, some of them are really ugly (especially that one railgun ship) and the balance is not great. I don't see a lot of redeeming qualities.
It's also got a ridiculous amount of ships for a faction pack like, 30 or so and a lot of those are redundant, extremely niche, or just look or feel bad.

Excellent, the forum page does not do a good job at selling how good the mod is. It's consistently very high quality and the stuff it adds is cool.
I will give you one excerpt that I really like: It adds these single use items that apply a permanent hullmod to a ship and there's one that essentially converts a destroyer to a cruiser in everything but name. More damage and more more flux but also slower and costs more DP. I thought that was really neat when I found it because my flagship at the time was a shitty overdriven destroyer that I got quite attached to, and it allowed me to keep piloting it while being actually useful in battles involving capitals and cruisers.
it's whatever. the ships are underwhelming and the weapons even moreso. the faction doesn't do anything particularly interesting. you have to be careful with them in nex, because if they decide to invade someone (which doesn't happen that often) and win, the market they invaded just gets fricking DELETED. it's GONE.

The Reparations Society also spawns these janky off-brand pirate bases that are in a sector of their own or something. They can't import or export anything because somehow other markets don't exist when you are looking at the base, so some goods are in a permanent state of shortage or surplus. Shit is fricked.

RAT is a great mod for exploration.

It has been two hundred years since the collapse, and yet nobody has figured out how to get a thumper to fire assault chaingun or hmg rounds, which sounds like a massive missed opportunity.
The thumper is noted to be a ridiculously simple weapon, to the point that it shows up all over the place. If the pirates can do their own hot rod modifications to ships, it shouldn't be too much of a stretch to modify a simple reliable weapon.

If you're talking about Arma, you activate auto-pilot and it'll automatically go to the nearest ship that can take wings. If you take enough damage a little pop-up next to your mech will advise you to do so in case you forget.

Which mods add new quests or narrative story stuff? I know about Sierra and the Nexelerin merchant station remnant AI thing but I don't really know of any others.
Lost Sector has a neat little storyline. Persean Chronicles adds a couple small quests. Rapesector has a remnant sex quest, DIY planets has a quest that gives you a way of creating new planets. Mayasuran navy has a couple if you're commissioned by them. Terraforming and Station Construction used to have a fun one, but it was removed a while ago and I'm still salty about it.
It had a quest where an Eridani-Utopian AI hiding in a gas giant in Penelope's Star would contact you and enlist you in trying to reopening a gate to get it back to its creators. The plan wouldn't work, but in the end you'd get a unique Conquest, a level 20 (it was that old) officer, and the ability to construct gates and travel between them (it was before Alex added that). When .95 dropped boggled removed the quest entirely due to overlap with the base game.
They weren't real gates, they were ripoffs that only worked in-sector. When the main quest added that same function boggled tossed the whole of it. Besides, it wasn't that gates that made the quest worthwhile, it was the neat ship and dope AI officer.

so i was reading a novel called the mech touch, and there was this bit where main character flies to the mech designing university but basically there's this massive mech casket ruin near the entrance that tovers about 100 meters or something and it was described in a really cool way
so how the frick does this relate to your question exactly? basically i think they'd be kind huge on land but fricking idiotic in space. let's assume they the size of capitals (massive and unrealistic in any way but just imagine) they'd be bullet sponges that die before they would get to their target, but if they did, they would rend the enemy capital apart
so overall 3/10 unreliable and weak just as the titan mechs were described in the novel.

if you want to pilot your own ships and not only command and conquer, just find a ship that you seem to enjoy piloting (in my example it was, again, a phaseshi), i sucked ass so phasing in and out made me not receive three reapers to my face. through that i actually could play the game, and then understand how combat generally works. just get something that you like a lot and that you don't die a lot.

Been trying to nail down a mod for a while. Wanted to see what you guys thought of it. I want it to be unique without just being vanilla kitbashes, or a super special snowflake OC faction. It's more akin to a boss rush faction with unique ships.

You'd be better off just making missions for the main menu with something like this.

'Somebody' randomly posted a ship sprite asking for feedback, one anon compared the design to that of a vegana. The resembalance was not lost on us and it quickly gained the monkier 'sloppy vegana' The poster was not amused and started having a full-sperg at everybody in the thread. We were amused.
Shortly after Noah was on the discord having a sperg-out about how the people here were picking on him and comparing his ship design to a vegana. Said sperg-out was re-posted here for all to see.
...a few weeks later ... and a few more minor rants on the discord...
Noah posts a revised version of his sloppy vegana here, he claimed that somebody had stolen his sprites prematurely and posted them without permission... he was called out, we laughed hard and he proceeds to have another sperg. He then goes back to the discord, continues his sperging about us and calls on members of the discord to rally together to report the thread and get us shut down. The discord mocked him for this, and we mocked him for this.
Following on from this, Noah continued to have intermittent rants on the discord while refining his sprite because his sloppy vegana was being reposted here (possibly by him) and mocked. Mods warned him to stfu, and shortly after a witch-hunt began on the disord for our 'spy', because re-posting discord drama on here (to 'trigger' someone) is a bannable offense.

More or less. There's a few extra graphical files you need to replace, and you want to replace the ship hull file and variants files. The stats don't actually change so you don't need to touch ship_hull.csv.

If you tell the Heg about Sentinel it becomes a level 3 sized colony. What I wonder is if you can tell Daud about it, I've never found Sentinel before doing his quest so I got no clue there.

There's been a problem with some of the more 'popular' mods botting their threads with posts, not sure if this is for popularity or to bump them. Both Tahlan and UAF have been two of the more blatant examples, 90% of posters in those threads have less than 5 posts to their name. Alex did a wipe of single post accounts a while back and both those threads lost close to 1000 posts.
He doesn't want to ban those mod(ers) because they are popular and he's also reluctant to put an auto-ban in place because he doesn't want to drive away genuine posters but the mods do have a green light to permaban any accounts that consists of "Your mod is really good." and nothing more.
And here's his main problem. His own community is being co-opted by frickin insane trannies who blatantly lie, put malware in their mods and now apparently bot their own comments.

Excellent, the forum page does not do a good job at selling how good the mod is. It's consistently very high quality and the stuff it adds is cool.
I will give you one excerpt that I really like: It adds these single use items that apply a permanent hullmod to a ship and there's one that essentially converts a destroyer to a cruiser in everything but name. More damage and more more flux but also slower and costs more DP. I thought that was really neat when I found it because my flagship at the time was a shitty overdriven destroyer that I got quite attached to, and it allowed me to keep piloting it while being actually useful in battles involving capitals and cruisers.
It is good, the hidden-thing exploration could get tedious, what with dodging patrols and all, but overall good mod

The Reparations Society also spawns these janky off-brand pirate bases that are in a sector of their own or something. They can't import or export anything because somehow other markets don't exist when you are looking at the base, so some goods are in a permanent state of shortage or surplus. Shit is fricked.

If you're talking about Arma, you activate auto-pilot and it'll automatically go to the nearest ship that can take wings. If you take enough damage a little pop-up next to your mech will advise you to do so in case you forget.

Which mods add new quests or narrative story stuff? I know about Sierra and the Nexelerin merchant station remnant AI thing but I don't really know of any others.
Lost Sector has a neat little storyline. Persean Chronicles adds a couple small quests. Rapesector has a remnant sex quest, DIY planets has a quest that gives you a way of creating new planets. Mayasuran navy has a couple if you're commissioned by them. Terraforming and Station Construction used to have a fun one, but it was removed a while ago and I'm still salty about it.

It had a quest where an Eridani-Utopian AI hiding in a gas giant in Penelope's Star would contact you and enlist you in trying to reopening a gate to get it back to its creators. The plan wouldn't work, but in the end you'd get a unique Conquest, a level 20 (it was that old) officer, and the ability to construct gates and travel between them (it was before Alex added that). When .95 dropped boggled removed the quest entirely due to overlap with the base game.

They weren't real gates, they were ripoffs that only worked in-sector. When the main quest added that same function boggled tossed the whole of it. Besides, it wasn't that gates that made the quest worthwhile, it was the neat ship and dope AI officer.

At least the shrine quest is mostly lore and introducing the concept (and ferrying pilgrims) I feel its the best added thing in awhile.

"we" really don't. There are only a couple of mech mods of any real quality. Diable(once you fix it) and AA are the only ones really worth using in a full playthrough.
so i was reading a novel called the mech touch, and there was this bit where main character flies to the mech designing university but basically there's this massive mech casket ruin near the entrance that tovers about 100 meters or something and it was described in a really cool way
so how the frick does this relate to your question exactly? basically i think they'd be kind huge on land but fricking idiotic in space. let's assume they the size of capitals (massive and unrealistic in any way but just imagine) they'd be bullet sponges that die before they would get to their target, but if they did, they would rend the enemy capital apart
so overall 3/10 unreliable and weak just as the titan mechs were described in the novel.
