The patch notes are for the upcoming patch 0.97, but they are a work in progress. It's a kind of weird process where Alex writes the (preliminary) patch notes on the forum and people give feedback on it, but there's no way to actually beta test the changes. I mean you can mod the game yourself to be able to try it out but Alex doesn't release a beta / dev / test version or anything.

I'm just not sure what mech you're talking about. I've been playing the new update but not seen any valk3. Seen the renamed valk IIx, but not a 3.
It really starts to shine when you have a mod that adds a good medium weapon, like the heavy remnant blaster from HMI.
It also doesn't have the Silversword hullmod the normal Valkazard has, which means that it doesn't suffer from a refit penalty and it's able to use safety overrides.
My set-up consisted of 1 light dual autocannon on the left arm, 1 light needler on the chest, 1 heavy remnant blaster on the right arm and shield conversion - front for a 360° shield, and i was much more successful with that than with the normal Valkazard.
Be sure to install an alpha core if you use Special Hullmod Upgrades, 15% time dilation is no joke.

I'm fricking miserable at starsector combat and can use all of the AA mechs with great ease. Hardest part was getting used to strafe movement and even that was easy. They are all the most glass of glass cannons though.

Yeah, you know how you just drift around from planet to planet or battle to battle or during exploring you have long stretches of space travel? I am working on adding RP type shit to that. Your crew asking for stuff, officers talking about their problems or telling you you're cool, minor repairs, buffs, stuff like that. Just to give "flavor" to the world. Example would be you're cruising for awhile and get a new ship, an event happens where the crew of that ship tells you about something hidden in the ship, it could be some loot, or a system or something, or even a dmod.
Nothing that would actually be overpowered on an individual basis, more stuff to just RP the kind of captain you are and the fleet you have.

It sounds great. Usually I hate random events though. I think it would be especially interesting if your crew started to get unhappy after spending too many months exploring without returning to a station.
My thought was for situations like this it would be "your fault"
If you are using a pirate start for example, the toggle would be for "regular raiding/looting"
Where your crew expects you'll be killing someone sometime. But, you could then have events where you go nah we're not like, or we're going after x target, or even "we have a privateer hub at this world, go there" and you lose some crew.
I have a list of a like 5 "trees" of types of crews and events and a framework in place but actually doing shit in the game is very... "fun"
The mech idea is unironically way fricking easier than trying to just add fricking speech with text that give +1% to a stat or something.

To be honest, AC gets brought up because it's the perfect middleground. Otherwise you end up with extremes like Mechwarrior, which is just tanks with chicken legs, or wacky zany gundams that are just samurai with butterfly wings and gay love and friendship speeches, like this was a JRPG or something.

Check your damage types. You may be going towards lowtech (armor and hull) and nothing towards shields. Look into having a few disabling ships that can do arc damage and disable engines and weapons on targets for you as well.

You can target a fighter individually if you have a serious problem like a wanzer on your butt. Otherwise if one of your other ships is being bullied by fighters you can target that ship and hit z to send the interceptors to cover that ship. There's no way to have them do search and destroy on random fighters as they all need to have the same general target.

Well domed cities make it like .05 but planetary is +2, so didn't know if it "overwrote it" or just made the shield pointless.
if you have domed cities you do not keep the planet strong in terms of grounds defences. you maximize the frick out of your fleets and your battlestation
even if the shield were to add 50000 defence flat it still would be like idk 50 because domed cities do % of ground defences. so yes it's pointless. sort of.
This is what I figured because of the .05 modifier. Didn't know if it was set up to be "smart enough" to realize the planetary shield would be OVER said domed cities. Thanks. Its what I figured but always worth a shot.
To be clear the whole point of asking this was I went to set an antigrav field up on a jungle world and it said I couldn't do it for the whole planet, it needed domed cities. This planet already has a high command and heavy battery so I'd like to keep it strong.

It really feels like a battleship. And I love how it gives you the option to do broadside memes, but doesn't force you to. The Aeria Charlotte almost feels like a downgrade.
I'm a cruisergay so for me it's the Lillaru, but UAF ships are just built right, the design and hardpoints feel like what it's a ship built by actual beings would be like, instead of some Conquestoid abomination foisted upon you by the whim of a moronic game designer.

No as been discussed many times transverse jump is something captains know how to do even though its not a "known" thing in the academy's texts. You're not "special" you're a dude that has spent a long time in space. The default start has you already as a captain who is able to control a fleet. You hear the "music" because of exposure to the warp just like brother picking cotton. You only can "control ai ships" after extensive tech training and a lot of hardware. Try to remove that alpha core kek you don't "control" anything.

wdym as discussed many times? genuinely curious. Not the same guy but Tranverse Jump isn't a normal ability. Sebastyen himself even says that it's only something people are rumored to be capable of and too risky to do manually. There's dialogue lines in rules.csv with people specifically mentioning "you're that lfeet that jumps without jump points" too, but they're all commented out

Unfortunately it's more like a 'complete story' option rather than simply removing it. It gives you all the story contacts and basically assumes the story happened. It has no impact on gameplay but it tickles my autism in the wrong way for roleplaying purposes.

I always use the "story" as a testing ground for the couple ship fights that are in it since you can basically speedrun the thing if you know what you're doing. Take some exploration missions when you go out to find colony items and weapons in the black, take a couple more. Do the actual "story" missions with a bit of running around. Done.

Newest version of the Abyssal Horror from HMI, it has nothing to do with RAT. It's in the Seele system in the bottom left of the map. It has 4 or 5 different forms, and the last one has the ability to switch ships in your fleet from friendly to hostile, until you defeat the Horror. It's a huge pain to deal with.
Don't forget it infinitely spam homing reaper tier torps without cooldown, while being phased, and teleporting.

Factorio restarts itself when you load/unload mods. Honestly the problem I have is the whole breaking saves thing, Starsector is too unstable in regards to that. A lot of other games don't suddenly break everything when you update your mods because they aren't coded like ass. If an entity that is supposed to be there isn't anymore it will just be deleted from most games but Starsector has to break for some reason.

If you add a faction mod in halfway it will still generate their blueprints despite having done initial generation before that load.

IIRC removing a hull_id from the game will make the save unusable if fleets/markets were using that ship but if you remove a building in Factorio its instances will simply disappear from the map when you reload. I have a feeling Minecraft works the same way but it's been a while. These lack of failsafes is what I'm talking about, surely it shouldn't be this fricking bad to update mods in the same playthrough.

No, the Chinese are using SIM opponents and sub-ordos to prove their claims. Even then they're running out of ammo. Against proper ordos, 300k bounties, or strong expedition fleets you'll be missing those reapers, pcls, and squalls. The AI also usually overkills with them, which while better than underkilling, only server to exacerbate the ammo problem.
Either they suck at piloting or they suck at playing the game. There is nothing wrong with dragonfuns.
