GW1 has nothing to do GW2. If you love 2 you won't love 1, it was made by different people for different people.

The storyline literally continues from 1 into 2.

Yes, sort of. There's a 250 year time skip between the games.

You mean the fan fiction about glints kid being the savior of the world and how you and a pride parade eventually go kill one of the most revered human gods to have ever existed because the """""god"""""" literally no one asked for said he was bad because toxic masculinity?

Mad little wowbuck. The original creators have created a sequel, and all you can do is cry about fanfiction on an anonymous basket weaving forum. SAD!

Original creators aren't there. They're at Manaworks games and making a game abour seagulls.

why would anyone make a game about seagulls? All they do is fly and shit.

Not really. The lore is the same but the GW1 trilogy tells its own story and concludes it perfectly. Unless they brought back Abaddon like they did with Balthazar, dunno haven't played since Path of Fire. The story was getting moronic by that point.

They made sure to put in a several hundred year timeskip to freely shit on anything that was established though, so to say that it continues the storyline is a bit of a stretch.

GW1, especially with the first add-on was pretty focused on PvP for endgame.

Although somewhat ironically you can play all the story with NPC partymembers.

Anet also said that the cost of running GW1 is basically nothing and shouldn't shut down anytime soon

I've played GW1 since 2005 and I can appreciate both games. It helps to just think of the GW2 story as fanfiction though, no doubt. I also hate how much cool stuff is gem store exclusive as opposed to being rare drops from dungeons/ bosses/chests etc.

Triolgy+EotN is ridiculously expensive for a game that came out in 2005. IIRC there's some legal rights holder bullshit where Anet can't actually change the price or something. There were some anons on /vm/ playing the game a while back, too.

Guild Wars 2 story is fricking weird and actually fricked in such a weird way. The first game had multiple distinct human cultures and by 2 they're all wiped out and turned into a single mishmash kingdom. The game makes it a point where these other cultures and peoples that got wiped out shouldn't seek retribution against those that attacked them while the developers tout shit about diversity and acceptance. The entire game is some weird double think shit for a story and I could ever understand why the devs never addressed it.

Almost like hiring a diversity squad (self proclaimed) was a mistake.

Story-wise GW2 is its own thing that skipped 250 years forward. They're very different games although adhering to the same "don't waste the player's time" design ethos. If you get around to it you'll see GW1 is almost unique in that it's a CORPG rather than your typical MMORPG.

What's the deal with the GW1 shit in GW2? Like, something about the Mehnnet coming back or something

GW story is way back in the past for GW2. As a game, it is quite arcadey and thus, better than GW2. Not quite as playable alone, though.

Since Nightfall introduced heroes the PvE is pretty much a single-player game just online.

I've had GW1 in my Steam library since 2011, but only played it for an hour and I cannot remember anything about it. I assume it's deader than shit, so how is the game solo? I don't know what's wrong with me, but I've started playing MMOs again recently. I played the XIV trial for awhile before hopping to a WoW private server.

"Heroes" are NPC party members that you can spec, gear and control unlike regular henchman. Right now it plays like some RtwP RPG but without the pause.
