Starter gaming PC

Hi guys,

I wanted to get this gaming PC. My aims are to do emulation (ideally PS3 emulation) and to be able to play Starfield and some VR stuff like FO4 VR.

Is this gonna be good enough?

And if not good enough what things would you suggest I need to look for instead? Eg a better graphics card?

RPCS3 is mostly CPU dependent. Xenia is the one that needs a beefy GPU.

    should be fine, yes.

without knowing which i5 sku it's impossible to tell. "i5" could mean something from this year or something from 2010.

This , there's literally hundreds of i5 CPUs, ranging from something that wont be able to emulate any PS3 games to something that can emulate all of them (well the ones that aren't just broken anyway). Prebuilts usually have dogshit CPUs (and mobos, and RAM, and PSUs...), so it'll probably be lower end but can't know for sure.
You should really take an afternoon to learn about PCs and build your own.

better than the highly specific "intel i5?" maybe he can get "nvidia gtx" with his higher spec model

This is the i5 - any good or no?

If any other suggestions for a similar price would be appreciated. If it is a matter of building one then my friend can help me with it.

        yes, that's fine
intel model numbers as of right now (they may change with next gen) are like this
i5 is branding to tell you the segment (e.g. budget, mid-tier, enthusiast, high end; i5 is mid-tier)
"13" is the generation, 13th gen is current gen so that's good
400 is the specific model in the lineup. the "4" means it's mid-low tier
F means no internal gpu i believe, so if your graphics card fails you won't be able to get any video output until you replace it

this cpu is perfectly fine for your use case and i'd say this is actually a good deal. the 13400F is a bit below mid-tier but there was a huge performance leap between 11th and 12th gen, so that particular CPU is more than good enough for your purposes

Okay thank you anon, I think I’ll take the plunge tomorrow and get it ordered.

no problem. you may want to try and see if you can find some info about how some of the 13th gen cpus perform on rpcs3, then use this site to compare the performance of whatever cpu you find info on versus the one you're buying
            https://www.cpubenchmark.net/

e.g., if you find a video showcasing the performance of like the 12600K, you can compare use its framerate as a baseline and then see how the one you're buying compares to it in terms of performance on passmark's site

emulation tends to tax both cpu and gpu, but it taxes cpu more than most non-emulated games do. so both are important, moreso than regular games where you can sometimes get away with a more budget cpu.

VR also taxes everything heavily, that's probably the only real concern point. i'm not as familiar with VR so you may want to do some research to see what hardware is sufficient for it.

I have built my PCs for years just going off of benchmarks, and this was the first time I've ever seen an explanation about this. Thanks, Anon.

        >Performance-core Base Frequency 2.50 GHz
You wont be able to emulate the more demanding PS3 games.

May upgrade as time goes on anyway but if it’s good enough generally then may just accept not having everything work. As long as I can run Starfield that’ll be the main thing anyway.

          I don’t have a 4K TV so running at 4K isn’t an issue either

          It'll be a 12400f or something kek

Shut the frick up moron, the 12400F is stronger than a Ryzen 5950X in RPCS3, let alone a 13400F

          Yes, a $150 i5 12400F is stronger than a $440 5950X in gaming/emulation workloads

You could try this for cheaper and same performance

Or this for the same price but better CPU

Thanks anon that’s hugely appreciated, truth is I’m getting old (37) with a wife child and challenging job. The convenience factor is worth its weight in gold to me now to just get prebuilt, the more I think about it

You would be on a 8GB vram gpu and only 256GB of ssd storage.

should be good, but a better CPU may be ideal for RPCS3.
and it's a good deal by prebuilt standards. (though im thinking in USD)

Im new to PC gaming so just wanting to get a decent rig to start. I’ve also put myself in signifsnct debt with a house renovation so can’t justify maxing out a credit card to get some monster. Hopefully this will do the job.

I’ve got a batocera HDD to install in it too for all my emulation needs, hoping it’ll run some of thr PS3 games but no major issue if not - would be a nice bonus.

Starfield is the main motivation for the PC - that and I’m stopping drinking so wanna focus on other hobbies.

No more i5, go with i7 instead.
btw, 13th gen processors can go wrong, I'd lower to 12th.

I hope it’s not refurbished because I’m buying it from curry’s, so assume all brand new!

Hey OP, just sussed this build and you may wanna keep an eye on the temperatures, only comes with 2 fans (not sure of their quality, maybe it’ll be enough). Also I got a build similar to this with 12 gen version of the same CPU and windows actually activated for much cheaper, and even then if I’d looked around more I could’ve gotten an even better build for cheaper - point being - do a shitload of research and you’ll probably find a cheaper build for better value. Either way, ask what CPU cooler it comes with, if it comes with the stock intel cooler you’ll probably have to buy an aftermarket one as the stock intel coolers are utter shit

I honestly don’t have the time or energy to build one from scratch. Doing upgrades as I go along I can do but starting from scratch is just too much for me to bother with right now

OP here, I saw this as an alternative but it is refurbished. Slightly cheaper too.

You’re on the right track, spend a bit of time looking before pulling the trigger, I’m not from bongland but I feel like the OP pic is too expensive for what you’re getting

Okay no probs anon will have more of a look before jumping into it. The benefit of the original one was it being 0% interest for 12 months, which is another factor too if I csn spread the payment

I have a HP Omen 30L with a RTX 3090 in it, I honestly wouldn't recommend it unless you plan to put extra fans inside of it which is a long and strenuous process, the reason for that being a small case without much heat dissipation. Look more into getting something with a bigger case that's easier to cool and upgrade internals with. You won't even really have space to put more drives in otherwise.
