Demon's Souls did not run very well on RPCS3 for me on either Deck or my PC, and it doesn't seem like a hardware issue. It just has things like audio not playing, black screens, texture flickering, etc. that make me generally uncomfortable playing the game like this.
Emulation performance is a hard thing to pin down because with newer emu versions sometimes they become more demanding sometime it becomes better optimized and runs easier
this is one example of a recent video
>again, autism >my question was, is it a crack or hair >autist comes out sperging on how it's a fixture >need to point autist's eyes to what I'm talking about >calls me an autist

Poster of offending image. I couldn't figure it out myself. My guess is a piece of string from the case or a hair it's definitely not a crack. Never change Ganker, never change.
If the port is on the bottom then that means the Steam Deck literally cannot jostle even slightly in it's docked position or else you could frick up the port or the plug. The cord to the top setup means that is the steam deck jostles no ports are at risk.
Port makes sense, nothing worse than the "I can't rest it on myself or anything else when I'm charging without it basically fricking with the cord" because the thing is plugged in on the bottom. Same is true for other stuff like audio or whatever. The fact there's a "wrap around" dock cable seems a reasonable workaround that doesn't impede otherwise.
Apparently. I didn't think I was, but they give me like ten quid a month to top up my wages so I am gonna be eligible for our 'pls no riot' payment. That shit is buying my deck, so thanks, bojo
I was reading some comments and some guy said he preordered the 512 deck in august and he's slated for Q3. Any other Q3 anons here can tell me your res times to help me cope? I also reserved in august but i got after Q3.
Same. I can't fricking turn it on most the time because of the fricked power button, but I still don't want to give it up for so long. I can't go back to being a deckless incel, bros...
i initiated the rma process over 2 weeks ago and i just haven't been able to send it off... even worse the issue i was having occured once after i did all the shit they asked me to do, told them it was still fricked, then when they initiated rma it didn't happen again for 2 weeks, when before it was doing it multiple times a day... last night it started again. gonna have to bite the bullet and let my baby go... just hope they haven't assumed im not sending it in and cancelled the RMA without telling me lol.
but does Steam Deck have the capacity to recognize and USE said 1.5TB card?
I STILL see brand new, top of the line, thousand dollar cellphones that CAN'T use cards over 258GB
And if I asked about its performance, that would matter.

not him but somewhat stable 60fps at medium/high, rock solid at 50fps
I saved this from another deck thread, but I think this is what that anon is talking about:
Reminder to to install powertools to limit CPU threads to 3 and disable SMT for Dolphin to get it running well. These will walk you through the install process
https://github.com/SteamDeckHomebrew/decky-loader
https://github.com/NGnius/PowerTools
Sonic Colors, Mario Galaxy, and various GC games went from 1x res with stuttering to 2x res playable at native framerates. Dolphin is not optimized for beyond 3 core yet or something and doesn't know what to do with the Deck seemingly without manual adjustment through the plugin.
Hey, I was about to post this! But thank you anon.
What sort of fix? A file?
You have to install a plugin that adds CPU options to the Deck's side menu thing from those links. It's not tough but you're going to have to go into desktop mode to do it as well as set a password for linux there. All the steps are in those links. Another note is that when setting a pass for linux it won't show anything like *** so make sure you type it right so you don't frick anything up. Also when using it seems like you can only use the touch screen for the powertools CPU settings menu which is a small annoying thing but worth taking note of.
Not tough but a few hoops needed. I recommend AnyDesk to remote screen control your Deck on a desktop PC to make things easier since I find the Deck's virtual keyboard to be very bad.
You may have to enable it in system settings, but after that, yes it's very easy.

Because Linux lets you do everything via terminal SSH is fine for a lot of uses, for example, configuring a program and sending a file along to a remote machine. I'm so fricking glad that Decks are opening peoples eyes and cluing them into the fact that computers are useful for more than just logging into websites.
>steamdeck plugins
are there any to let you change the button configs for the SteamOS? I find it absolutely mindboggling you can rebind controls in literally any way for games but when you go back into the SteamOS you're literally stuck with the default. Makes my brain hurt cause I play my games in Japanese so I have right confirm
complain about it in the corresponding Steam Deck thread about swapping buttons, the more people screech about it the more will valve push it up the priority list
it's so moronic that this is still not a feature

I'm surprised people arent calling it an accesibility issue since they love screaming that.
Deck does not emulate switch that well, contrary to what the people who want to stir shit up here want people to believe.
I have a deck and love it but the switch emulation thing is just to mainly start flamewars it feels like. Wii and PS2 work fine, with some stuff on CEMU getting better and some PS3 games working okay too.
not him but are there any videos showcasing yuzu EA builds running the demanding games at full speed on the Deck? Because if you look up on the most recent youtube videos, the Deck still cannot run it at constant 60fps, perhaps in years when it gets more optimized that will be a thing
'the most recent youtube videos'
again, they are missing the intel
most people don't even realize you can get the EA app image for free

Well perhaps that's why as I'm using the flatpack. Honestly haven't given switch emulation much thought as I've basically played everything on there I wanted to a while back, but it is cool some development is being made apparently.
I'm personally going to wait on it though. I also care more about PS2/3 being perfected because those games are a bit more alluring to me to be on a portable as the switch already is so.

It stutters sometimes on shader compilation but it's not bad after you play for a second. I beat kirby forgotten land up to the extra shit at the end. Stuff like Odyssey and Mario Kart 8D work perfectly, even the DLC.

i just never had a better experience emulating something above PS2/GCN vs just playing it natively
the stuttering is just really shit sometimes
you can just grab shaders from very popular games but good luck finding any for stuff like 3DS beyond Pokémon, Zelda and Mario
so either play it natively on a hacked 3DS perfectly or a stuttering mess on a machine that should be theoretically powerful enough to emulate it

Alright, spill the beans, how come no one plays any REAL games on this thing? Does it lag? Die in 5 minutes? Why are people playing 20+ year old games on that shit?
Dumb question but there's nothing special about the charging cable provided with the Deck right?
I have a much longer USB C cable and big bad outlet connecter for it and was hoping to use that for my Deck instead of the one provided. I know people were talking about the Switch having trouble with certain chargers and was hoping it wouldn't be the same issue as that.
theres nothing special but you need at least a 45w(?) connector if you want to charge it correctly and make sure you have a good usb c cable rated for fast charge. I use one of these with a usb c cable for my steam "dock" set up and have my SteamDeck charger in my carrying case when I'm out of the case
Any of you guys get XBCX running correctly? Weird to see how many people talked about playing it on the Deck but no one really ever talked about it afterwards. Instead its just BOTW or some shit.
i grabbed a baseus 20k powerbank for my deck and it's working well, main issue is the rate of re-charing. not sure if i'm doing something wrong or getting all 4 cels to maximum actually takes like 12 hours

What does this say about the state of modern gaming?
Just got my deck today, was a Q3 batchlet.
With the way everyone was bragging about getting the "good fans" I was expecting this thing to be howling while running games but this thing is surprisingly quiet. Definitely more quiet than the One X Player I bought (and returned) while impatiently waiting in the deck queue.
The fans are pretty great, it's impressive. Especially if you're coming from a gaming laptop like I was (had a Zephyrus G14 that I would play MGS5 on in lectures)
there's a lot of stuff still borked on protondb, i'm not confident that linux will become able to play 100% of windows games anytime soon and i have no intention of waiting >but you can run 99.99%!

It's really not worth the effort. Navigating in windows is painful and the deck drivers aren't exactly 100% yet. But if you need to, you can't use your formatted SD card like that. You would have to use gparted or something to format the partitions yourself, eyeballing how much gb you want to dedicate to Windows and how much you want to dedicate to SteamOS. Then once you do that, make sure to disable pagefile (and maybe hibernation and sleep) on windows to ensure that windows doesn't brick your 1TB from constant read-write cycles. (Disabling page file will limit things you can do on Windows because if you exceed your RAM you will have a bad time) and be alright with the terrible performance NTFS + SD Card will give you.
Gonna level with you, Windows on an external USB C SSD makes a ton more sense to me.

Correction, its inherent in the SD card design really. It's not meant for random read and writes on the scale of an operating system over an extended period of time. It's a problem Raspberry Pi users know

>It's not meant for random read and writes on the scale of an operating system over an extended period of time
Isn't that literally what A2 cards are made for? They have much better random performance than any HDD ever made, even if they are still a couple orders of magnitude off from a proper SSD.
Anonymous
Not complaining about performance in this case, talking about the lifespan. The thing about all flash storage is that they have limited read-write cycles. OS's not optimized for SD cards (which basically most aren't) will chew through those RW cycles really quickly.
An SSD has other components that are specifically designed to minimize the read-write cycles spent on them with things like an L2 cache and whatnot whereas most SD card controllers either don't take this care or simply can't take this kind of care.

Oh I see, yeah SD cards use very cheap flash. I wish we had bootable SD slots in phones because they'd have to be a lot better in that case.
has anyone played burnout 3 on the deck?
i want to buy a deck but i specifically want to play burnout 3, i'm not interested in any other games, i just want to play burnout 3 on planes
Three Hopes is alright on Ryujinx if you launch through gaming mode and use Power Tools plugin to reduce CPUs by 1 or 2. No more than that though.
Occasional freezing, but it otherwise runs like it does on switch...if not a little better during cutscenes.
Three Houses runs better on Yuzu, but it has a weird black box glitch on the overview map you'll have to ignore. Otherwise...it's better than switch.
I recommend having both installed on your deck if you want to play switch games. If you want RPGM hgames to work, they will. You need rtp of course and youll have to account for japanese locale for others.
Yeah, I just have both installed all the time because some games work better than others. Why anyone would fanboy about software and only use one is beyond my thinking.
I order within the first 4 hours of preorders last july and only got mind a few weeks ago. But everyone who ordered early is actually starting to get theirs and valve is finally ramping up production so my guess is probably 6 months.
Reserved (as in $5 down) or ordered (paid in full)?
If the former, other responses covered that. If the latter, depends on region. US or Canada will probably be a couple days, elsewhere could be a week or more.
>99.9% Of videos/picutres show the Steam Deck playing insanely old games or old emulation
Alright, spill the beans, how come no one plays any REAL games on this thing? Does it lag? Die in 5 minutes? Why are people playing 20+ year old games on that shit?
Deck owner here, it runs most AAA games...not well, they're playable but it's like 30 FPS with medium settings or 60 FPS with everything on low, plus the battery sucks butthole anyone who says otherwise is shilling or in denial, if you dampen the brightness by 50-60% it can extend it, but for the most part it's shit, when you play old games on it the battery lasts a lot longer and the device doesn't heat up as much.
Battery life depends on how hard the device is pushed. If the user wants to extend the battery life of the Deck, they gotta reduce the graphical fidelity and also make use of dynamic resolution solutions. That Phawx youtuber guy managed to get 3 hours and a half of battery when playing Control by using low graphics and also playing with FSR upscaled to 800p from 540p which is very impressive, considering the Switch can't even run that game natively, having to use a cloud service to play that game in its "cloud version"
The battery isn't great but it's fine if you take just a few power saving measures. Most games, save for the most taxing, I can get at least 3 hours, usually 3.5 to 4. Some I can get 4-5+.
i mostly play gba games on it
i really like gba games
i tried pirating elden ring and it runs very well but it isn't really my thing, so i wemt back to my gba games
I'd recommend you a PS Vita for GBA emulation, it's what I use >much lighter >better buttons >insanely good d-pad >fantastic battery life >super comfy to play
for everything 3D that's not PS1 I got the deck
>used ones are $300
wtf
they're roughly a hundred bucks in yurop/japland and if you look daily for new listings for a week you can spot one in mint condition too
I kinda have to agree. I put some Sega Genesis games on my Deck after only doing later 3D emulated games before that, and pulling out my Deck to play Comix Zone or Streets of Rage 2 feels excessive and silly. Originally I thought about just leaving old 2D games to the 3DS, but then there's RPGs having fast forward on Deck which is something the 3DS can't handle and I don't want to go back to playing Pokemon/other grindy games without fast forward.
So now I'm stuck in a situation where these old 2D games don't quite feel right on Deck to me, but with Pokemon and RPGs coming Deckside it's very hard to justify keeping a handful of options back on my 3DS. I will probably just adapt, move everything Deckside, and just keep natively running games on my 3DS/Vita/WiiU/Switch as backups for when emulation is jank
I love gba games too that looks comfy
im a physical gay tho and bought all my favorite gba games so i'm gonna just use the deck for my steam backlog and maybe some gamecube/ps2.
I tried playing through Fallout 4 on it, here's the main issues I had >Heats up as time goes on >Battery life is short >Stuttering when in cities
Applying 8239813921839128312983912 mods and fixes makes it somewhat playable, but it's not a very fun experience.
The main appeal of the Steam Deck from the start was the fact that it's the ultimate emulation machine where you can play games from up to 8th generation on the go.
There is an AMD64 GNU/Linux exclusive PS4 compatibility layer project, but I'm not sure if its running any commercial games yet.
Since its a BSD -> GNU/Linux compatibility layer and not really an emulator it can hypothetically be full speed on equivalent hardware.
Neat. I've been curious to know if something like that would be possible since the consoles have mostly been running standard PC hardware and OSs for the last couple generations.
Steam Deck is a dream PSP where I can play basically anything I want regardless of how relevant it is and without paying a Switch tax for it to be portable.
>wasted space
lol, open that shit open and look at the pcb's. There's tons of padding and space. Poor use of space. no reason components need to be that far away from eachother.
>get order Steam pop-up and email >remember how much I wanted one last year >can't imagine when and where I'd play it >rather just build a new high-end pc this fall
Yeah, gonna pass. Enjoy anons. I love the idea of it but I don't think I'd ever use it and I don't want to be one of those scalper scumbags, even though I think these things will go for crazy prices this Christmas.
scalping isn't even worth it unless you get lucky, gaining 20 bucks after going through the hassle of selling and shipping it and the fear of someone fricking you over isn't worth it
upgraded my rig too a few months ago but I constantly use my deck because I just love handhelds too much
Anyone know how to configure per-emulator settings with emudeck?
The controller shortcut for retroarch works fine but I want to mess around to make Shadow of the Colossus run better on PCSX2.
MOO is awesome. Fricking over some bandit lords in a dank cave with sweet gear feels awesome. Using traps and random travelers as bait while you frick their shit up and steal their loot is some real adventure kino.
40hz is an awesome feature and it feels really good with consistent frame pacing. The difference between 3 hours of battery life and 4 is just 3W (13W vs 10W). Oblivion runs at something moronicly low like 7W so any kind of power saving option boosts its battery life harder than other games. I get almost 6 hours out of that game. It runs on fricking fumes. I like 40hz and use it on pretty much anything.
as the other anon said, its about choice. 40hz is also significantly better than 30hz. For some games, I'd say anything below 60 is unacceptable but thats just a few.
the difference between 30 fps and 40 fps is the same as the difference between 40fps and 60 fps. 40 feels great on games that don't require fast reactions/inputs.
Did you get a screen protector, SD card (160MB/s download like Sandisk extreme), and 65W Baseus battery bank with long cable for charging while playing?
i've been playing hitman 3 on it (imported hitman 1 levels into it so not sure if the hitman 3 levels tank performace more).
It hits 60 fps with medium settings, but you're looking at like 2-2.5 hours battery life, so i drop it to 40hz/fps and it feels perfectly fine and boosts battery life a good hour.
The rate of new reservations really dropped off after the first couple of hours. With the increased rate of shipments Valve is going to deliver about 1.5 million Decks before the end of the year, and that should include most people who have placed an order so far. Probably early next year at the latest for a reservation made right now.
ETA on Steamdeck 2? Wondering if I should start saving up for a gaming laptop and ditch desktops finally.
I wish there was a device that was the size of a phone that you could take anywhere, or slot it into a steamdeck device for max mobile power, or stick it into a dock for desktop-level performance.
I guess you could get the Winmax 2 and then hook up an eGPU when you dock it. It's basically a little laptop you can also play handheld. it's definitely not the size of a phone though kek.
>ETA on Steamdeck 2?
Sometime in late 2025 at the earliest.
>I wish there was a device that was the size of a phone
If you want an open platform phone those do exist (PinePhone, Librem 5) but they aren't really ready for prime time yet, and they use ARM hardware which really limits them to only being useful for emulation and some native GNU/Linux games.
You can use them for GNU/Linux desktop stuff by docking them, but what you're asking for really isn't possible yet and probably will never be since 'desktop-level' gaming performance keeps increasing.
It's a PC and new PC prebuilts come out all the time. No I don't they're going to release new Decks as frequently as whatever the frick Aya is doing, but a new Deck every 1 - 2 years wouldn't be that crazy. This isn't like consoles where software has to be tailor-made for each device.
>Valve literally said as soon as the first one came out they were already in preproduction for a 2nd version.
Which isn't surprising, if you want to launch a system in 2025 you basically need to be working on it several years in advance.
I'm expecting that before we see a Steam Deck 2 we'll see a bit of a simplification of the production. Down to one or two versions from the current 3 and a focus on fixing stuff like the fan and cooling problems that have popped up in the first 250k units.

It is a little different because its built around a custom SOC chip, and SteamOS right now is pretty strongly coupled with the hardware.
AMD doesn't necessarily produce new laptop SOC chips every year, so I'm expecting 3-5 year lifespan for this handheld optimized chip.
We might see a Deck 2 in 2025, but they might keep selling hardware using improved revisions of the original SOC for several more years.
Literally since when has anyone given a single frick about UMPCs before this thing was announced? You might as well start b***hing about switch threads next.
As the anon always starting general UMPC threads, I'd guess it's because there's always a couple of turbo autists that insist on fighting between devices. Not that I mind personally since it bumps the thread and is sometimes funny.
It can play any mods assuming you can manage to get mod managers to actually run. If it doesn't need a mod manager and it's just drag n' drop then it's just as easy as windows.
>laying in bed, effortlessly hopping between modded Skyrim, F-Zero GX, Metro Exodus, Super Castlevania IV, PSO BB and Stardew Valley
So easy to lose track of time
Depends on how long Valve keeps selling it and how strong sales of it remain. When sales slow down in the US they'll almost certainly open up some new regions (Japanese and Korean language support just got added).
If they sell it for 3 years, they'll probably sell somewhere between 5 and 7 million units. Which would accomplish Valve's goal of surpassing MacOS marketshare on Steam and make it one of the best selling open platform computers for all time.
If they sell it longer it will likely pass 10 and might get close to the 15 million units sold by the Commodore 64 arguably the mots successful of the mainstream 'console-style' personal computers.
gotta hope that EU court case they lost doesn't rob them of all their hardware funds, causing them to lose large amounts of money, and go belly up because creditors deny their operations costs.
Deck newbie here. I formatted my 1tb microSD as an exFat then dumped my rom collection on it, however no files are showing up when I go to my micro SD in the file explorer. Did I set something up wrong?
Hope a deck thread pops up in /vg/ or something, would be nice to have some compiled resources and guides in an OP.
exFAT isn't supported on Linux by default. You can install exFAT support on Arch but I don't think it would work on SteamOS because you can't use pacman. The Deck uses ext4 which isn't supported on Windows at all, unfortunately.
Ah alright, that explains why Windows was telling me my SD card was corrupted at first, which led to me formatting it as exfat. I'll just find another way to transfer files to it I suppose.
Sure it is. Exfat is a kernel driver nowadays, and valve's kernel is compiled with support for it.
The problem is that Valve's SD mounting script will not automatically mount non-ext4 cards and their formatting script will only format as ext4 by default.
I just bought >512GB SD Card (fast rated) since the 1TB seems like a rip off at the moment >Mag Glass Anti-Glare Screen protector >USB C Right Angle Adapter
Anything else I should get that you could would reccomend? I dunno if a body sleeve would be worth it, since I expect it to get scratched overtime anyways.
you might look into something like this. i'm finding in games like death stranding i really can only get 90 minutes of battery no matter what i do.

I tried that and it didn't work. The audio stuttering is such a fricking b***h. I got it to work once and then after reboot it suddenly began again. I don't have power tools enabled.
Official dock was supposed to come out end of spring but they delayed it.
You can use a generic one, but there were issues with some cheap ones soft bricking it, making it unable to charge.
New bios versions may or may not have fixed that issue.
Will never be able to get one due to living in a 3rd world country, so only china clones for me. At least I learned I will be able to install steamos on them which is great. Not sure which one to go for yet, but probably one of those new ones with 6xxx ryzen cpus and igpus.
>Asymmetrical sticks
I don't know why Valve decided to go with symmetrical when the whole industry wants asymmetrical, but I love them for it. I despise asymmetrical sticks
It doesn't matter either way on the deck because the dpad and the left stick are side by side instead of one above the other. The problem is when you put the left stick in a place where you have to curl your finger like in the Sony controllers
Would be nice to have those pads for a few games that use a mouse, but most of the stuff I play is fine with just joysticks. I still can't quite figure out how much one of these is gonna cost compared to the deck. Also seems like some of them are 1080p screens, seems like it'd be better to go for one with 1280 res like the deck so that it's cheaper and can use FSR2.0 for perfromance.
pic related was pretty kino on deck, finished it in two days. enslaved odyssey to the west is another game that was great on deck.
gonna search for some more third person 2010ish singleplayer games, anyone played the first templar or the cursed crusade?
>valve tried to warn you anon
moron, that was someone using a non 2230 SSD in their deck, you can get 1TB 2230s that use the same power draw and fit the deck normally without having to hack an extension into the back of the thing
yes, I am moronic, linux is so simple to use, that's why everyone uses i- oh wait nobody uses it because it is fricking horrendous
I got sick of searching for some specific release compatible with linux, then having to go through every fricking proton option to try and find one that works, then none of them work and you have no idea what to do from there
why do people get so mad about windows on the deck? It's kind of funny
I mean, you do you, but it annoys me to no end that normalgays are content with sucking microsoft's wiener because they refuse to use their head to learn something new
I noticed that EmuDeck sets up a directory for turbografx cd games, but it doesn't seem to do anything like provide an emulator to play them with? ROM manager also doesn't recognize them.
EmuDeck is a moronic piece of shitware made by a skid.
Anyways, turbografix CD is just a turbografix 16 with a CD ROM drive extension. I'm pretty sure mednafen in retroarch is what handles that.
And as a linux cuck myself, some of us get triggered when we see them install windows.
You can laugh at them in private while they have an inferior experience with their unoptimised, bloated, spyware riddled OS.

Steam Input has worked in Minecraft when added as a third-party game since the early days.
I used to play the Java version with the Steam Controller all the time.
Install lutris through the discover app and open it
Press +
Choose add locally installed game
Choose wine as a runner
In game options tab browse to the installer in executable
Set a working directory, probably where you want to install it
Save, then run it.
In the installer you can choose where to install it from /, rather than the default program files directory
You're running the installer through lutris. To steam its just another pre-installed game.
Anonymous
Okay, maybe we're not communicating properly here. You do realize you can just right click on anything set up in lutris and add it to steam, right?
Anonymous
That's true. Just depends on how you want to set it up. Lots of tutorials say to run the installer as a non steam game then search for the random directory steam shits out to add it to steam. If I install a game from epic or gog through lutris I'll add it to steam through right-click. A setup.exe from a pirated game I'll just manually add the game to steam after using lutris to install it.
A bit of a waste I'd think. You're going to end up replacing the pots with hall effect sticks in your original deck at some point, because pots just fail. I don't really think there's much point to custom buttons aside from some way to loosen the D-pad a bit. There currently aren't any real case mods as far as I'm aware.
fair, yeah i guess i can't really think of any crazy mods i would want to do otherwise outside of like the double decker
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5406797
Think accounts are limited to one purchase, guess you could make another account but steam does that anti bot thing where accounts need a month or two before it's verified or whatever
If I get one, am I getting a finished product or am I a glorified beta tester for it? Will Valve continue to support it or will they drop it like the steam machines?
i've bought similar type caps for my RG350v, but i guess in this case each button is actually a different height so yeah they would need custom molding

How is 360 emulation? There are a couple 360 games I can't play on SeX BC because of licensing bollocks.
Any baby game on RPCS3 like Demon souls or Dragons Crown but 360 emu? Lol
Demon's Souls did not run very well on RPCS3 for me on either Deck or my PC, and it doesn't seem like a hardware issue. It just has things like audio not playing, black screens, texture flickering, etc. that make me generally uncomfortable playing the game like this.
works on my machines
It's not like the Deck has the sorts of variables that should make this inconsistent.
some games require specific settings in the emulator, look it up and check your settings.
That's purely due to your settings. DeS requires some specific tinkering. My best friend has it running at 60fps.
Surely there must be some way to load unpurchased games in microsoft's inhouse emulator if you can use dev mode to download emulators and roms.
Don't know, every 360 game I really cared about is available on Steam and has been super cheap during sales.
I just need burnout revenge and crackdown for my fix of kino
just get burnout 3 on pcsx2 much better game
burnout revenge is on xbox back compat too, got it on my xsx
Emulation performance is a hard thing to pin down because with newer emu versions sometimes they become more demanding sometime it becomes better optimized and runs easier

it was me, sorry
anon please send me one of those docks. i don't like having to use non-valve brand hubs.
get a 3D printer and use a (You)-brand dock
I like it. I can get a more aesthetic desk setup by having my deck next to my monitor and plugged in at the top and oriented correctly
I don't mind it. Makes less sense for docking but I have a gaming PC if I want to sit down and play vidya.

ANNNNNNOOOOONNNNNN
I prefer the port on top, because it's easier to charge while I'm playing it as a handheld.
Funny that I wanted this on Switch so I could play and charge while it's stood up on the desk. But they never included a kickstand thing on deck.
If the port is on the bottom then that means the Steam Deck literally cannot jostle even slightly in it's docked position or else you could frick up the port or the plug. The cord to the top setup means that is the steam deck jostles no ports are at risk.
I'm glad they went with a top port. Nothing annoyed me more with my switch than playing it handheld while charging it.
ports should be on top. the bottom of things is for resting on.
Someone who knew what they were doing because bottom is moronic for something you're sitting on your belly in bed.

I love my deck
Looks like my buy request will come in the same weekend I get my free 600 pounds from the UK. Good shit.

Apparently. I didn't think I was, but they give me like ten quid a month to top up my wages so I am gonna be eligible for our 'pls no riot' payment. That shit is buying my deck, so thanks, bojo

2TB sd cards when
A 1.5 TB card just got released.
but does Steam Deck have the capacity to recognize and USE said 1.5TB card?
I STILL see brand new, top of the line, thousand dollar cellphones that CAN'T use cards over 258GB
sandboxed android os =/= steam os
Yes?
The SDXC standard supports up to 2TB. Even then, that's actually a limitation of MBR formatting and not the actual bus.
As long as it is SDXC it should work.
Deck should support it, it has SDXC support which is up to 2TB.
Its possible in the future they'd be able to add SDUC support (up to 128TB).
Deck 2 needs 2280 m.2 SSD slot and dual microSD slots or 1 SD slot + 1 microSD slot

Why do you still think I was asking about its performance, when I wasn't? Can you just not read or something? What I said, and what you inferred, are two very different things.
not him but how else is he supposed to read "How's Middle Earth on deck?"? if you're specifically asking about how the controls feel/how easy the ui is to read then be more specific in your wording, and don't throw a hissy fit when someone misinterprits your very vague, open ended question.
not him but somewhat stable 60fps at medium/high, rock solid at 50fps
but he didn't ask about performance anon

Anyone else here run dragon's crown successfully/ What settings did you change for it?
Slim version when?
>Launch Galaxy
>Stuttering up the ass
I was running it at 1080p but I expected the Deck to be able to handle that. Do I have to change any of the Dolphins default settings?
some anon posted a fix for it but I can't be assed to find it
What sort of fix? A file?
you limit the deck's CPU usage cus Dolphin isn't programmed to handle it,and there was like 3 steps to it, I don't remember cus I don't own a deck
Thanks.
Hey, I was about to post this! But thank you anon.
>Anydesk
Got any FOSS alternatives?
can't you SSH into linux very easily?
You may have to enable it in system settings, but after that, yes it's very easy.
>set password
>enable SSH
2 commands, yes.
SSH?
secure shell. Old ass method of logging into remote computers, and it still just werks.
Makes my brain hurt cause I play my games in Japanese so I have right confirm

general overview here:
Desktop mode? Yes. I don't blame you for not realizing

I like about big picture but thats only desktop mode
I know about*
complain about it in the corresponding Steam Deck thread about swapping buttons, the more people screech about it the more will valve push it up the priority list
it's so moronic that this is still not a feature
I'm surprised people arent calling it an accesibility issue since they love screaming that.
would it make more sense to just emulate the mario switch collection?
>No Galaxy 2
Deck does not emulate switch that well, contrary to what the people who want to stir shit up here want people to believe.
I have a deck and love it but the switch emulation thing is just to mainly start flamewars it feels like. Wii and PS2 work fine, with some stuff on CEMU getting better and some PS3 games working okay too.
it literally does emulate the switch that well
the secret using the EA app (locked behind israelite patreon) image instead of the flatpak on emudeck
not him but are there any videos showcasing yuzu EA builds running the demanding games at full speed on the Deck? Because if you look up on the most recent youtube videos, the Deck still cannot run it at constant 60fps, perhaps in years when it gets more optimized that will be a thing
'the most recent youtube videos'
again, they are missing the intel
most people don't even realize you can get the EA app image for free
https://github.com/pineappleEA/pineapple-src/releases/tag/continuous
werks on my deck(tm)
Well perhaps that's why as I'm using the flatpack. Honestly haven't given switch emulation much thought as I've basically played everything on there I wanted to a while back, but it is cool some development is being made apparently.
I'm personally going to wait on it though. I also care more about PS2/3 being perfected because those games are a bit more alluring to me to be on a portable as the switch already is so.
it's very easy to get yuzu early access builds
https://pineappleea.github.io/
how do I import this into emudeck?
given that SteamOS is linux you gotta go with the options on the top right, the list is for windows only I think
Nice, thanks anon. Will save that for later when I need it

just werks, ninentoddler
Does it work better than regular build?
It's a 2021 build, you sure it's the proper one to get?
Yes. If a game doesn't work just try the normal build or Yuzu.
It stutters sometimes on shader compilation but it's not bad after you play for a second. I beat kirby forgotten land up to the extra shit at the end. Stuff like Odyssey and Mario Kart 8D work perfectly, even the DLC.
i just never had a better experience emulating something above PS2/GCN vs just playing it natively
the stuttering is just really shit sometimes
you can just grab shaders from very popular games but good luck finding any for stuff like 3DS beyond Pokémon, Zelda and Mario
so either play it natively on a hacked 3DS perfectly or a stuttering mess on a machine that should be theoretically powerful enough to emulate it
my condolences
I have a 3DS so I haven't tried emulating that. Ryujinx or Yuzu work well for first party games and any other game I can just get on Steam or pirate it and play it with Proton natively.
have you actually ever finished one of these games without any slowdowns, visual or audio glitches and without any stutters?
as I already said, running the first level isn't playing the actual games
Know a dude who beat the entirety of 3H last year on emulator
>ryuujinx
lole
Man that's cool. Is there any way to get Ryujinx to work with emudeck? Yuzu just can't handle some games like Seven Pirates H.
You can launch a game qith ryujinx by just supplying a path to the game behind the command. Shouldn't be too hard.
New games are bad.
I use one of these with a usb c cable for my steam "dock" set up and have my SteamDeck charger in my carrying case when I'm out of the case
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08T5QVTKW?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
Any of you guys get XBCX running correctly? Weird to see how many people talked about playing it on the Deck but no one really ever talked about it afterwards. Instead its just BOTW or some shit.
too busy soiyng over my steam collection to actually get into emulation
botw is the only decent game nintendo has made since the wii era
their other games are simply not worth it
I tried it and it seemed to work, albeit it was super bright, but for some reason after that I started having model/texture glitching

Especially if you're coming from a gaming laptop like I was (had a Zephyrus G14 that I would play MGS5 on in lectures)
>but this thing is surprisingly quiet.
because you got the good fan
I thought they stopped using the good fans everyone refers to early in production. Didn't realize it was a lottery thing.

bros, my big ass sd card has finally arrived.
is there an up to date, reliable guide on how to dualboot?
I just run games off there normally.
i specifically need w10 for a handful of things, i'll run the rest on steamos
is it rpgm hgames or VNs? Theres shit like winetricks, wine, and lutris..
there's a lot of stuff still borked on protondb, i'm not confident that linux will become able to play 100% of windows games anytime soon and i have no intention of waiting
>but you can run 99.99%!
i want them all
I don't you will ever play 100% of windows games, though.
i don't need to play them, but i want to be ABLE to play them.
Gonna level with you, Windows on an external USB C SSD makes a ton more sense to me.
guess i'll wait for the official install wizard then, i really hoped they would have fixed this shit by now
The SD Card issue is not a Valve problem, it's a Windows thing.
Correction, its inherent in the SD card design really. It's not meant for random read and writes on the scale of an operating system over an extended period of time. It's a problem Raspberry Pi users know
https://forums.raspberrypi.com/viewtopic.php?t=202381
>It's not meant for random read and writes on the scale of an operating system over an extended period of time
Isn't that literally what A2 cards are made for? They have much better random performance than any HDD ever made, even if they are still a couple orders of magnitude off from a proper SSD.
I wish we had bootable SD slots in phones because they'd have to be a lot better in that case.
frick me neon white is nice on deck

>i'm not interested in any other games, i just want to play burnout 3 on planes
kinda based.
Sometimes Wine works when Proton doesn't.
>If you want RPGM hgames to work, they will. You need rtp of course and youll have to account for japanese locale for others.
based
Yeah, I just have both installed all the time because some games work better than others. Why anyone would fanboy about software and only use one is beyond my thinking.
>double borders due to the thing's non standard native res
Garbage
I can't get NTR knights story to run on any other handheld.
KOF 2002 UM is ugly in bigger aspect ratios. This is generally true for older fighting games.
Umineko works
No moron, it would be a waste of space, these devices need to be tight and we'll designed for good airflow and efficiency
How long does it take, on average, to get a Deck from the day it is ordered?
We're not past the first day of preorders. It has been a year.
so a year
I order within the first 4 hours of preorders last july and only got mind a few weeks ago. But everyone who ordered early is actually starting to get theirs and valve is finally ramping up production so my guess is probably 6 months.
Reserved (as in $5 down) or ordered (paid in full)?
If the former, other responses covered that. If the latter, depends on region. US or Canada will probably be a couple days, elsewhere could be a week or more.
>install 5 gorillion games on 1tb sd card
>get addicted to installing games
>not playing them
lol
>install games while you are eating dinner
>play games literally the entire day
truuuue xd
Yep.
I played so many DS games thanks to my acekard that buttons started failing from overuse.
>99.9% Of videos/picutres show the Steam Deck playing insanely old games or old emulation
Alright, spill the beans, how come no one plays any REAL games on this thing? Does it lag? Die in 5 minutes? Why are people playing 20+ year old games on that shit?
those are the good games
define real game, I've seen people playing Elden Ring on the Deck, is that real and new enough for you?
Yep most what I play is 3 - 5.
i mostly play gba games on it
i really like gba games
i tried pirating elden ring and it runs very well but it isn't really my thing, so i wemt back to my gba games
try some psp games my dood
on it. i played some patapon yesterday, very nice
Are you using steam's retroarch or the emulators on its own?
case by case basis
What are Lutris and Citra for, I've seen those mentioned before.
Citra is a 3DS emulator. Lutris is for installing and creating Steam shortcuts for non-Steam games.
thank you knowers
citra is for 3ds
lutrus us for easily installing and running windows games, and adding them to gaming mode
>chrome
i knew we shouldnt have let normalgays into linux
repent sinner and install ungoogled chromium
no
I'd recommend you a PS Vita for GBA emulation, it's what I use
>much lighter
>better buttons
>insanely good d-pad
>fantastic battery life
>super comfy to play
for everything 3D that's not PS1 I got the deck
too bad you can't get a new one and used ones are $300~
>used ones are $300
wtf
they're roughly a hundred bucks in yurop/japland and if you look daily for new listings for a week you can spot one in mint condition too
already have it, but i like the deck more because i like having an all in one device
I'd say get a chink handheld like an Anbernic or something (the RG280M is great for GBA) and save the Deck for 6th gen and up
I love gba games too that looks comfy
im a physical gay tho and bought all my favorite gba games so i'm gonna just use the deck for my steam backlog and maybe some gamecube/ps2.
>Pay 400 cuck bucks to play games from 30 years ago
Yeah I don't get it either, must run like shit or something
Go on YouTube, search "Steam Deck *Game Title*" and see for yourself.
Yeeeahh, real "playable".
That's how most games run on it, don't let other people fool you into thinking it can run everything flawlessly, it plays new games like garbage.
why would anyone play that crap anyway?
>watch video
>someone posts in the comments another video that shows the Deck running it at 30-40FPS, twice the frames the guy gets
>2042
>The game that ran like shit on everyone's computer unless you have a tower that's 4x the price of the deck
yeah alright buddy
I play DNF Duel, Elden Ring, GG Strive, Sunbreak without issue. Usually avoid posting in threads because I usually have nothing to say.
I tried playing through Fallout 4 on it, here's the main issues I had
>Heats up as time goes on
>Battery life is short
>Stuttering when in cities
Applying 8239813921839128312983912 mods and fixes makes it somewhat playable, but it's not a very fun experience.
New games are kinda shit.
new games suck. Newest stuff I played was psychonauts 2 and cruelty squad.
Because if you want to play graphic intensive games it makes more sense to do so on your desktop PC? Lol. I mostly use mine for comfy gaming.
The main appeal of the Steam Deck from the start was the fact that it's the ultimate emulation machine where you can play games from up to 8th generation on the go.
>up to 8th generation
It can emulate ps4??
There is an AMD64 GNU/Linux exclusive PS4 compatibility layer project, but I'm not sure if its running any commercial games yet.
Since its a BSD -> GNU/Linux compatibility layer and not really an emulator it can hypothetically be full speed on equivalent hardware.
Neat. I've been curious to know if something like that would be possible since the consoles have mostly been running standard PC hardware and OSs for the last couple generations.
Steam Deck is a dream PSP where I can play basically anything I want regardless of how relevant it is and without paying a Switch tax for it to be portable.
i like to play high end games on my high end pc while streaming and comfy games on my comfy deck in my comfy king size bed like sludge life and sable.
Cause it's comfy.
I play Elden Ring, Oblivion, MonHun World, Risk of Rain 2, and Morrowind a lot.
it plays modern games just fine but im more interested in having the classic ones in a handheld form factor for the first time
https://www.youtube.com/c/Pc-gamingIt/videos
i mean this guys entire channel is just 'new' games on deck
played FFXIII and Disco Elysium on it
shit is great
>TWO PORT
no way, it already is almost as squeezed as possible and they did not want to waste space
>wasted space
lol, open that shit open and look at the pcb's. There's tons of padding and space. Poor use of space. no reason components need to be that far away from eachother.
>53% 6/30
>76% 7/04
Hoping that mine will be ready by 7/11
is there a difference between Q3 and after Q3?
I'm after Q3 and I am curious.
Its a place holder
anons pls
okay. i didn't know the levels of distinction valve was using
Yeah, their wording is a bit confusing. They should just say "Q4 or later"
Q3 means Q3
After Q3 means "we have no idea"
Fricking Dbrand took 14 days to ship my goddamned skin. I want my leather Steam Deck.
Chinks already seething
>get order Steam pop-up and email
>remember how much I wanted one last year
>can't imagine when and where I'd play it
>rather just build a new high-end pc this fall
Yeah, gonna pass. Enjoy anons. I love the idea of it but I don't think I'd ever use it and I don't want to be one of those scalper scumbags, even though I think these things will go for crazy prices this Christmas.
scalping isn't even worth it unless you get lucky, gaining 20 bucks after going through the hassle of selling and shipping it and the fear of someone fricking you over isn't worth it
upgraded my rig too a few months ago but I constantly use my deck because I just love handhelds too much
This is now the official GPD thread.
Looks cool! How much does this cost compared to the Steam Deck? :^)
I wanted to get one just to play roguelikes in bed
I would get one but they want 1k plus, idk if I want to spend that
Got mine for like $600-ish
Learn the ways of shopping.
Anyone know how to configure per-emulator settings with emudeck?
The controller shortcut for retroarch works fine but I want to mess around to make Shadow of the Colossus run better on PCSX2.
>oblivion
is it modded though
I like vanilla Oblivion
Mod Organizer works though, I'll likely install OOO and MOP eventually.
>MOP
I meant MOO.
MOO is awesome. Fricking over some bandit lords in a dank cave with sweet gear feels awesome. Using traps and random travelers as bait while you frick their shit up and steal their loot is some real adventure kino.
>Oblivion at 40 FPS
400 bucks for THIS?
I cap refresh rate to 40hz for better battery life, it runs great and steady at 60 but I value more battery time.
You sound like console users when they say 30 FPS is fine.
I have a 144hz 1440p monitor on my rig and I can safely say 40hz feels fine on a handheld.
as the other anon said, its about choice. 40hz is also significantly better than 30hz. For some games, I'd say anything below 60 is unacceptable but thats just a few.
Ahuh ahuh.
the difference between 30 fps and 40 fps is the same as the difference between 40fps and 60 fps. 40 feels great on games that don't require fast reactions/inputs.
I'm waiting for these PC handhelds to get Freesync and 120Hz, otherwise it's a no buy.
It's running at 8W compared to the standard 25W.
Console users don't have a choice; on the Deck you can run the game at 60 FPS if you want.
Ahuh ahuh.
Did any of you guys get a screen protector for your Decks? Worth spending the extra on the one with the matte finish?
Did you get a screen protector, SD card (160MB/s download like Sandisk extreme), and 65W Baseus battery bank with long cable for charging while playing?
If not, you're doing it wrong.
i upgraded the ssd and got a screen protector thats all you need
>Status: Shipped
we're goin home
Getting mine in the mail tomorrow. The wait hurts but I'm so ready.
How well does it run
the hitman series
How well does it emulate
wii games
SMTV
i've been playing hitman 3 on it (imported hitman 1 levels into it so not sure if the hitman 3 levels tank performace more).
It hits 60 fps with medium settings, but you're looking at like 2-2.5 hours battery life, so i drop it to 40hz/fps and it feels perfectly fine and boosts battery life a good hour.
But I already have a GPD Win 3
>he fell for the overpriced chinkshit meme
But I got it when it was only $900, when I preordered it on Indiegogo a year and a half ago.
those are not comfy at all
it's better to just have a high end desktop + deck
>using newegg
lmao do you even know how to shop for computer parts?
>shipped today
Oh yeah. Its all coming together
FedEx just picked up mine
>cucksolegay comes to steamchad threads to seethe for the rest of her life
kek
It's going to take forever, bros. I wanna die.
>he waited almost a week
I'm sorry anon, but you brought this upon your self
>waiting 6 days to preorder
what, did you need to take out a loan to afford the 5 dollar reservation fee?
where do you go to check this sort of thing?
https://getmydeck.ingenhaag.dev/
So when are us who reserved this month going to get our decks? 2025?
Yep almost a year for me, placed the order on the 18th
The rate of new reservations really dropped off after the first couple of hours. With the increased rate of shipments Valve is going to deliver about 1.5 million Decks before the end of the year, and that should include most people who have placed an order so far. Probably early next year at the latest for a reservation made right now.
probably by the beginning of next year or later
ETA on Steamdeck 2? Wondering if I should start saving up for a gaming laptop and ditch desktops finally.
I wish there was a device that was the size of a phone that you could take anywhere, or slot it into a steamdeck device for max mobile power, or stick it into a dock for desktop-level performance.
I guess you could get the Winmax 2 and then hook up an eGPU when you dock it. It's basically a little laptop you can also play handheld. it's definitely not the size of a phone though kek.
probably 2025, need zen 4/rdna 3 APUs
google "valve time"
>ETA on Steamdeck 2?
Sometime in late 2025 at the earliest.
>I wish there was a device that was the size of a phone
If you want an open platform phone those do exist (PinePhone, Librem 5) but they aren't really ready for prime time yet, and they use ARM hardware which really limits them to only being useful for emulation and some native GNU/Linux games.
You can use them for GNU/Linux desktop stuff by docking them, but what you're asking for really isn't possible yet and probably will never be since 'desktop-level' gaming performance keeps increasing.
>console literally just released
>retreads asking for console 2
It's a PC and new PC prebuilts come out all the time. No I don't they're going to release new Decks as frequently as whatever the frick Aya is doing, but a new Deck every 1 - 2 years wouldn't be that crazy. This isn't like consoles where software has to be tailor-made for each device.
Valve literally said as soon as the first one came out they were already in preproduction for a 2nd version.
That's because the HIGHEST selling model is the 512 GB $700 version. Far outperforming the sales of the cheapest one according to gabe.
source
The sales info is from an IGN interview with Gabe Newell on the deck's success. The other info is if you Google "valve steam deck 2"
We might see a Deck 2 in 2025, but they might keep selling hardware using improved revisions of the original SOC for several more years.
cant stop playing neon white
i've managed to steal a couple times off my mate who is playing kb/m and has like 4x the hours in than me lewl
I have one day left to verify my purchase. But I am on the fence about it. I don't game much nowadays.
Sell it to your local neet through facebook marketplace
Literally what is the point of having threads for one specific UMPC out of hundreds? These threads just reek of shills and bot posting
Literally since when has anyone given a single frick about UMPCs before this thing was announced? You might as well start b***hing about switch threads next.
As the anon always starting general UMPC threads, I'd guess it's because there's always a couple of turbo autists that insist on fighting between devices. Not that I mind personally since it bumps the thread and is sometimes funny.
oh no, your Ganker browsing experience is ruined!
not my browsing experience!
The Deck is the only good and reasonable UMPC.
Can it play Warband mods?
It can play any mods assuming you can manage to get mod managers to actually run. If it doesn't need a mod manager and it's just drag n' drop then it's just as easy as windows.
frickin hell where did my evening go
just hastag deck things am i right my fellow children
>laying in bed, effortlessly hopping between modded Skyrim, F-Zero GX, Metro Exodus, Super Castlevania IV, PSO BB and Stardew Valley
So easy to lose track of time
i actually stand up the entire time im playing my deck
trying to avoid deck neck, also seems to be helping with posture ;w;
So realistically, how many Steam Decks will Valve sell before people lose interest? A million? 2 million?
52
Hope a deck thread pops up in /vg/ or something, would be nice to have some compiled resources and guides in an OP.
aren't you supposed to just let the deck format the sd card from the steam settings menu? it probably uses ext4 or something
exFAT isn't supported on Linux by default.
You could try this: https://www.gamingonlinux.com/2022/03/heres-how-to-transfer-files-from-your-pc-to-a-steam-deck
NTA but I've tried Warpinator and I couldn't get a connection. Tried Syncthing instead and it worked almost flawlessly.
Sure it is. Exfat is a kernel driver nowadays, and valve's kernel is compiled with support for it.
The problem is that Valve's SD mounting script will not automatically mount non-ext4 cards and their formatting script will only format as ext4 by default.
this might be worth looking into
is the samsung evo select the best performing microsd card for the deck ?
yeah, it has the best random reads but it only goes up to 512GB
thanks anon
i think ill buy a 512 gb and maybe an extra 1tb sandisk
is the difference noticeable in the user experience ?
reposting from other thread
dont ever fricking reply to me again, namegay; have a nice day and burn in hell homosexual.
Just Cause 3 on deck with gyro is fun as frick, just make sure to download Proton GE/Experimental
How long did it take for you to receive your RMA unit?
I've been waiting for 9 days now and no word from Steam.
I just bought
>512GB SD Card (fast rated) since the 1TB seems like a rip off at the moment
>Mag Glass Anti-Glare Screen protector
>USB C Right Angle Adapter
Anything else I should get that you could would reccomend? I dunno if a body sleeve would be worth it, since I expect it to get scratched overtime anyways.
you might look into something like this. i'm finding in games like death stranding i really can only get 90 minutes of battery no matter what i do.
https://www.etsy.com/listing/1209916250/steamclip-for-baseus-20k-65w-steamdeck
($55 total with the v2 steamclip)
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08THCNNCS
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07SN9DJ5G
but that's like $120 to get a kickstand + another 90 minutes in game.
at the very least i'd recommend looking around for a kickstand attachment of some kind, it's come in handy for various situations.
90 minutes doesnt seem super bad, i feel like i dont game in huge sessions anyways, good idea though. Could I just play while plugged too?
>play while plugged
yeah sure, it's just kind of awkward with the only port being on the top and the provided charger cord not reaching very far
don't strap shit to the heat sink
the heatsink isn't covered
I didn't say heatsink, I said air intake
literally neither are not covered, the photos are just taken at a shit angle
>are not
rip i'm an esl ig
>deck has 6 air intake vents on the back
>4 are covered by the battery despite "muh angle"
Come on anon, weak bluff
my phone camera is like 10 years old but hopefully that helps
No battery in that photo anon
Not that anon, but if you look at the holes for the bracket to slip into, they don't go below but the very tips of the vent holes. Granted, you don't want anything blocking any air floor to your steam deck, but it's no 4 holes blocked
past this you'll just have to trust me, i'd like to get back to vidya
>Let me plug in a hot battery over the air intake
SEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEX
What is the point of these threads?
To discuss the best handheld of all time?
The Vita?
Vita was fun, but no, the Vita 2 aka Steam Deck.
is it safe to play games with DRM on the deck? I've heard they can kill hard drives
I've had zero issues with DRM enabled games.
Guess I'll pick up the miku game while it's still on sale then. Thanks
anyone managed to play modded vintage story online with deck?
its native
should just work
hmm... wouldn't let me join the /vm/ server. wonder if the game updated in the short amount of time since i downloaded it.
could be that or it not liking a mod etc
I only ever tried some basic client-only mods I think when I self-hosted for a bit
So what are the odds of me being able to order my deck this month?
Probably August. Wait for this Thursday and then next weeks days to see how fast it gaps through the after hours orders.
If most people ordered on day 1, you could be near the end of the queue. I think your chances are good.
>had to buy a suit for a wedding
>had to get new tires
>all the other bills I pay
>should be getting the email to buy my Q3 model any day now
I don't know if I should be dropping $700 on this thing right now, bros
Any obligatory games to pick up on sale?
dragons dogma arisen for $5 (runs great on deck despite 'unsupported')
$10 ff9 for moguri mod
i think stacklands is pretty fun to play with touchpad controls if you're into tabletop kind of stuff
RE4 HD version is $5 and you can mod textures etc.
if you don't have S.T.A.L.K.E.R already they're pretty fricking cheap right now. can use it in the anomaly mod
titanfall 2 runs amazing on deck, $5
Whichever anon suggested this https://youtu.be/atYHqNpgSlk
I tried that and it didn't work. The audio stuttering is such a fricking b***h. I got it to work once and then after reboot it suddenly began again. I don't have power tools enabled.
I've been trying to figure out the stuttering issue for the past 5 or 6 days. It's so annoying and it only effects Dragons Crown and Odin's sphere
Is it possible to run Kirby Switch with 60 fps on the deck yet?
I don’t get it. I downloaded ProtonGE but Arkham Asylum still won’t launch. What do?
Mine is finally coming in on friday. Do they have an official dock yet? Or is there otherwise a recommended one?
Official dock was supposed to come out end of spring but they delayed it.
You can use a generic one, but there were issues with some cheap ones soft bricking it, making it unable to charge.
New bios versions may or may not have fixed that issue.
Will never be able to get one due to living in a 3rd world country, so only china clones for me. At least I learned I will be able to install steamos on them which is great. Not sure which one to go for yet, but probably one of those new ones with 6xxx ryzen cpus and igpus.
The closest clone in terms of inputs will probably be this one, but it's not coming out this year either.
>Asymmetrical sticks
I don't know why Valve decided to go with symmetrical when the whole industry wants asymmetrical, but I love them for it. I despise asymmetrical sticks
I'm pretty sure that the deck exists because there are people at valve who wish the vita was good.
I'm pretty sure some people at Valve probably also have switches with CFW.
The quick menu behaves almost identically to Tesla.
Both are reminiscent of the 360 blades.
Probably because the main problem with asymmetrical sticks is that vertical transfer and vertical misalignment causes more problems than horizontal
This only goes for the morons that chopped a larger form factor SSD down instead of using the correct form factor
Also seems like some of them are 1080p screens, seems like it'd be better to go for one with 1280 res like the deck so that it's cheaper and can use FSR2.0 for perfromance.
pic related was pretty kino on deck, finished it in two days. enslaved odyssey to the west is another game that was great on deck.
gonna search for some more third person 2010ish singleplayer games, anyone played the first templar or the cursed crusade?
where my 1TB SSD hads at
>lowers life of steam deck
lolez
oh wow that's a hot new moronic take
valve tried to warn you anon
hope you enjoy it while it lasts :v)
>valve tried to warn you anon
moron, that was someone using a non 2230 SSD in their deck, you can get 1TB 2230s that use the same power draw and fit the deck normally without having to hack an extension into the back of the thing
you're a fricking illiterate subhuman npc anon
>install windows
>can actually pirate games easily now
Fricking finally
>watching a playthrough of cuphead
giga zoomer cringe moment
>run installer through Steam
>change shortcut to the newly installed game
>hard
You can pirate games on Linux easily, you're just moronic.
yes, I am moronic, linux is so simple to use, that's why everyone uses i- oh wait nobody uses it because it is fricking horrendous
I got sick of searching for some specific release compatible with linux, then having to go through every fricking proton option to try and find one that works, then none of them work and you have no idea what to do from there
why do people get so mad about windows on the deck? It's kind of funny
I mean, you do you, but it annoys me to no end that normalgays are content with sucking microsoft's wiener because they refuse to use their head to learn something new
have a nice day
I noticed that EmuDeck sets up a directory for turbografx cd games, but it doesn't seem to do anything like provide an emulator to play them with? ROM manager also doesn't recognize them.
Anyone know of a way to correct this?
EmuDeck is a moronic piece of shitware made by a skid.
Anyways, turbografix CD is just a turbografix 16 with a CD ROM drive extension. I'm pretty sure mednafen in retroarch is what handles that.
>EmuDeck is a moronic piece of shitware made by a skid.
weird grievance, i've found it pretty handy and slick. but i'll look into the tg16 idea.
>we've move passed the tendie+chink trigger stage into the linux V windows stage of deck threads
all according to keikaku
Isn't it beautiful how many fanbases this one little device can trigger at the same time?
Some big brain engineering went into it.
windows cucks cannot accept that the deck runs on linux
people really think linux is the same as it was in 2006
And as a linux cuck myself, some of us get triggered when we see them install windows.
You can laugh at them in private while they have an inferior experience with their unoptimised, bloated, spyware riddled OS.
I bet you all use linux on your main pc instead of mean old windows....right?........RIGHT?
I do, actually.
>I do, actually.
I look nothing like that, but okay.
yes
To be specific I run GNU/Linux on my PC, and Android/Linux on my phone.
Also that's an amazingly accurate rendering. Is that the new AI?
is dall-e mini, the shitty one.
the actual ai "dall-e 2", is too fricking good
I think I'm gonna switch after my experience with the deck. Shit's easy.
>Your expected order availability: After Q3 (October 2022 or later)
>7 min battery life
>every screen has dead pixels
>will burn your house down

haha yes now everyone will buy the fricking abortion chink laptop, ni hau ching wing
you just know
>gabe personally farted inside each unit
So that's what makes sniffing the exhaust fumes so intoxicating.
>no 5GHz
are you joking?
Yes, it's all a joke, you spastic
you're the one who wants a fat black deck in your lap, "you spastic"
It supports dual-band Wireless AC, he's a fricking moron.
Anyone tried Minecraft of the deck? Do the controller controls even function on the Linux version?
why do you post on Ganker instead of using google
>nooooo don't ask on the thread dedicated to talking about the device nooooooooo!
I'd rather hear it from an anon not some gaming jurno israelite Black person

Steam Input has worked in Minecraft when added as a third-party game since the early days.
I used to play the Java version with the Steam Controller all the time.
lol only processed 10 hrs of orders
haven't fricking shipped the day 1 orders yet after 4 months
what the frick man
what could we expect from the company that cancelled the artifact 2 beta
playing AI somnium files, changing the graphic setting is kinda jank and the cutscenes take a while to load in but overall having a good time.
turn on FSR
Can someone explain like I'm a moron how to run a windows exe installation file?
Install lutris through the discover app and open it
Press +
Choose add locally installed game
Choose wine as a runner
In game options tab browse to the installer in executable
Set a working directory, probably where you want to install it
Save, then run it.
In the installer you can choose where to install it from /, rather than the default program files directory
Then you can add that game as a non-steam game in steam
You'll also need to set a version of proton in the non-steam game properties compatibility tab.
Uh, no. Not if you use Lutris to manage WINE. Steam will treat it like a native Linux game and let Lutris handle it.
You're running the installer through lutris. To steam its just another pre-installed game.
Okay, maybe we're not communicating properly here. You do realize you can just right click on anything set up in lutris and add it to steam, right?
That's true. Just depends on how you want to set it up. Lots of tutorials say to run the installer as a non steam game then search for the random directory steam shits out to add it to steam. If I install a game from epic or gog through lutris I'll add it to steam through right-click. A setup.exe from a pirated game I'll just manually add the game to steam after using lutris to install it.
had my deck for 2 weeks and absolutely enamored with it
how ridiculous would it be to order a second deck for modding in the future? hall sensor sticks, custom buttons, maybe case mods?
i'd only want a better d-pad at the moment
A bit of a waste I'd think. You're going to end up replacing the pots with hall effect sticks in your original deck at some point, because pots just fail. I don't really think there's much point to custom buttons aside from some way to loosen the D-pad a bit. There currently aren't any real case mods as far as I'm aware.
fair, yeah i guess i can't really think of any crazy mods i would want to do otherwise outside of like the double decker

frick you, im still waiting in que you bastard!
hang in there bro, gabe is juicing it hard
Think accounts are limited to one purchase, guess you could make another account but steam does that anti bot thing where accounts need a month or two before it's verified or whatever
i don't believe there is a limit in place, from what i've heard offhandedly from nerds that got stupidly early reservations
I think you're limited to having one order placed at a time, not one deck period.
If I get one, am I getting a finished product or am I a glorified beta tester for it? Will Valve continue to support it or will they drop it like the steam machines?
the real big testers were the ones who got the 64GB version (i.e me)
still id say maybe a bit

this was announced ages ago, i wonder what the hold up is
Realistically, there's nothing stopping you from making your own by making a mold of the original buttons and then using resin to make new ones.
i've bought similar type caps for my RG350v, but i guess in this case each button is actually a different height so yeah they would need custom molding
ifixit only selling the membranes sadly
