I resent a lot of what Steam does and if I could get the same functionality out of GOG/DLsite/itch games launched through Playnite or a similar standalone interface, I would buy from there before Steam every chance I got.
But currently, the experience of using Steam is smoother, especially when synchronizing between PC and Deck, and there is no alternative that can match it. I WISH that would change. I WISH someone would bother. But nobody will. And as much as I’d like to give my money to better distributors and punish Valve for their mandatory updates, inconsistent new title approval process, review bomb hiding algorithm, etc., I’m not going to give up cloud save and mod synchronization between platforms just to prove a point to a fatass on a boat.

I went in the show blind and wound up buying the first press blurays. The show looked so beautiful, anon. I heard an anon mention problems with the subs though.
The anime adaptation really did Frieren a huge solid. The manga is a piece of art itself, but the anime manages to adapt the tone and pacing of the manga perfectly. I was worried that the anime would rush the story and make it feel cluttered, but its slower pacing conveys the "vibes" of the original perfectly.

Just giving my 2 cents as an actual game dev. I've had games get filtered/slapped with AO before as well as had games of the exact same level of lewdity get through. The actual truth behind this is that Valve doesn't give a frick, they can't test your game because their company only has a few hundred people and they have to review hundreds of games a day. Actually going through a game to check things is something that can take a lone person days/weeks even with dev instructions, so they mostly just try to prod you into telling them what's in your game and then pretending they played it. So really there's two ways you can approach things:
>go to Valve nevously with hat in hand, giving a stupidly detailed breakdown about every tiny little thing that might offend someone
>OR just skim over things, describe vaguely (but accurately enough that you're not lying and can cover your ass/blame them for not testing the game), smile and nod
Every time I've done #1 I've been treated very harshly, and every time I've done #2 I get off scot free. My theory is that most jap devs are just very honest people and tend to do #1, like I did when I started out. But you have to realize, the worst case scenario for #2 is that your game makes it through and then gets removed later, which is actually an insanely low chance because steam fears the backlash of removing things. So TL;DR it's better to ask for forgiveness than permission. And no I'm not revealing my identity, just remember all this yourself for later if you ever do indie dev.
