That's not it. It's no secret that OW2 is a mess due to all of the crazy shit that's been happening at Actiblizz for the past few years along with all of the bad things in the game itself. Blizzard can lie about how there's a 100 million active accounts or whatever like they always do for every game they put out, doesn't change the fact that this particular title is not performing in the market the way they expected it to.
Releasing it on Steam is them pulling a Tribes Ascend, where they're trying to garner as big an influx of players and potential paypiggies willing to pony up their steambux for all of this crap as possible from a community that rarely if ever tolerates any other PC game launcher.

While multiplayer, low-effort GaaS is obviously the ultimate goal for blizzard, I would prefer pve style co-op/solo missions.
There is more room for variety and creativity from the devs in such a mode than the mp, which as you have pointed out, gets stale and boring.

It's no longer about whether or not the game is good or not.
It's simply about the fact that they stopped development on it for 3 years while they were working on this big expansive PVE mode that was so amazing that they hade to rebuild the games engine and was the ENTIRE REASON FOR THE SEQUEL IN THE FIRST PLACE. Which they ended up cancelling. And not only did they end up cancelling it, they knew they were cancelling it before OW2 even launched, and continued to advertise that it was coming despite already making the decision that they were scrapping that entire portion of the game.
Not only that but they then have the gall to announce they're going to charge 15$ for a 3-mission pack less than a month after announcing they cancelled the real PVE mode.
On top of all that, it's become abundantly clear the only reason they switched to OW2 was to give them a legal out from their "buy once get all content forever" promise during the initial OW1 marketing, and to give them a way to completely revamp the cosmetic acquisition system such that it's impossible to get 99% of the content in the game without opening up your wallet and opening it up massively.
And, lets not forget that in the day and age of battles passes where the vast majority of them pay for themselves if you go through the entire thing, Blizzard thought they would do the brilliant thing and not give you a single bit of premium currency back, ensuring that every season you have to pony up another 10$ for the pass.
I don't care how good the gameplay is when the company gaslit and lied to it's player base for years and clearly doesn't give a single iota of a frick about the IP beyond how much $$ it can make them.
And don't get me started on the actual gameplay balance being balanced around fun and accessibility rather than functionality or proper balance. Games a fricking joke, and so is anyone that defends it in 2023.

This is essentially what has happened to overwatch 2, as while it isn’t a recent release, it only now has reviews. The third reason is that people are upset about something the developer or some contributor has done outside of the game and are voicing their (game-irrelevant) opinions on why you should or should not purchase the game as a result of these actions.
All three of these however, it seems perfectly reasonable to me. The first two are inevitably going to describe the game from the perspective of someone disappointed in it and are therefore of obvious value to additional people who may wish to purchase the game. The third, while not strictly relevant to the game or its quality, is admittedly information that consumers may want to know before making a purchase and giving a potentially unscrupulous individual their hard-earned money. There certainly exist scenarios in which review bombing is unconstructive and unhelpful to potential buyers, such as if the review bombing is carried out by a small number group utilizing a million bots and is therefore not representative of widespread distaste, or reviews are lying about their actual reasons for rating the game down or something along that line, but that’s basically never what actually has happened. I struggle to believe that anybody against review bombing or really people who bother defining review bombing as separate from “receiving negative reviews” could be anyone other than a blinded fanboy or corporate shill.

That's not it. It's no secret that OW2 is a mess due to all of the crazy shit that's been happening at Actiblizz for the past few years along with all of the bad things in the game itself. Blizzard can lie about how there's a 100 million active accounts or whatever like they always do for every game they put out, doesn't change the fact that this particular title is not performing in the market the way they expected it to.
Releasing it on Steam is them pulling a Tribes Ascend, where they're trying to garner as big an influx of players and potential paypiggies willing to pony up their steambux for all of this crap as possible from a community that rarely if ever tolerates any other PC game launcher.

That'd singlehandedly remove all reviews for like 95% of FPS games, walking sims, "narrative" games, simpler puzzle games, most of Valve's games (including both Portals), tech demos, actual demos, lots of simple arcade-type games, most VR games and some other genres I can't think of right now.
This would also mean 100% of reviews would be made after the return window, meaning if a game is downright awful or glitchy, or it doesn't work on modern OSes, you're shit out of luck.
Maybe half an hour to an hour at most, that's long enough to verify that they probably DID play it and that they're not just reviewbombing it, also making sure it's within the refund window, but even then an hour would be absolute torture if the game simply doesn't run, it's intensely glitchy, or it's just so damn awful that even looking at it or touching your controller causes migraines.
Also frick the idea of having to carefully time playing long enough to get into the review threshold while simultaneously playing little enough to still be allowed to refund the game.

While multiplayer, low-effort GaaS is obviously the ultimate goal for blizzard, I would prefer pve style co-op/solo missions.
There is more room for variety and creativity from the devs in such a mode than the mp, which as you have pointed out, gets stale and boring.
Frankly, singleplayer games/missions are far more memorable and interesting than any multiplayer game I have played in the last several years.
A 1 hour game like Portal has much more lasting impact than 100 hours of playing the same thing over and over.

But the state of OW2 isn't nearly bad enough to play shitty alternatives like TF2 or lmao Paladins. That's just the reality. At worst it's just clear they're trying to israelite you, but it's also free anon. You can unlock the new heroes by a minor (free) grind during the season or afterwards through the quest. You can't even play ranked with the new heroes for the first week so you'll probably just have them by the time it matters anyway.
Like yeah Blizzard sucks but that doesn't mean OW2 isn't the best option if you want a hero shooter.

It's no longer about whether or not the game is good or not.
It's simply about the fact that they stopped development on it for 3 years while they were working on this big expansive PVE mode that was so amazing that they hade to rebuild the games engine and was the ENTIRE REASON FOR THE SEQUEL IN THE FIRST PLACE. Which they ended up cancelling. And not only did they end up cancelling it, they knew they were cancelling it before OW2 even launched, and continued to advertise that it was coming despite already making the decision that they were scrapping that entire portion of the game.
Not only that but they then have the gall to announce they're going to charge 15$ for a 3-mission pack less than a month after announcing they cancelled the real PVE mode.
On top of all that, it's become abundantly clear the only reason they switched to OW2 was to give them a legal out from their "buy once get all content forever" promise during the initial OW1 marketing, and to give them a way to completely revamp the cosmetic acquisition system such that it's impossible to get 99% of the content in the game without opening up your wallet and opening it up massively.
And, lets not forget that in the day and age of battles passes where the vast majority of them pay for themselves if you go through the entire thing, Blizzard thought they would do the brilliant thing and not give you a single bit of premium currency back, ensuring that every season you have to pony up another 10$ for the pass.
I don't care how good the gameplay is when the company gaslit and lied to it's player base for years and clearly doesn't give a single iota of a frick about the IP beyond how much $$ it can make them.
And don't get me started on the actual gameplay balance being balanced around fun and accessibility rather than functionality or proper balance. Games a fricking joke, and so is anyone that defends it in 2023.

I'm 99% into Steam mostly because it covers loads of different companies, which drives competition (also because they have open reviews, unlike EGS's random pick thing, or loads of stores outright not letting you review games). EGS is #2, followed by the heap of online shops and whatever, like GOG.
Frick the Ubisoft store, frick the Blizzard store, frick whatever EA's doing (I think they renamed Origin?)
In a world where we can't just plunk down a DVD into our PC and just install and run from there, game stores should be open and diverse to drive competition and to avoid having 50948327 different stores installed, all farming your data to 5940287 different parts of China and eating up your storage's life span.
If blizzard wants people to stop hating them, they'll do everything they can to appease them, including bringing over the games people actually care about. Sucking them off and defending their failures and shitty behavior because you want them to bring over games they made back when they were good is cuck behavior that they'll just use against you to abuse you further.

The first reason is that something in the game has changed or been removed or been added it is extremely unpopular, causing a large number of people currently playing it to suddenly dislike it at once. The second is that a game has recently released and has had considerable hype behind it but was shockingly bad leading to many people buying it but it being low quality, leading to hostile reviews. This is essentially what has happened to overwatch 2, as while it isn’t a recent release, it only now has reviews. The third reason is that people are upset about something the developer or some contributor has done outside of the game and are voicing their (game-irrelevant) opinions on why you should or should not purchase the game as a result of these actions.
All three of these however, it seems perfectly reasonable to me. The first two are inevitably going to describe the game from the perspective of someone disappointed in it and are therefore of obvious value to additional people who may wish to purchase the game. The third, while not strictly relevant to the game or its quality, is admittedly information that consumers may want to know before making a purchase and giving a potentially unscrupulous individual their hard-earned money. There certainly exist scenarios in which review bombing is unconstructive and unhelpful to potential buyers, such as if the review bombing is carried out by a small number group utilizing a million bots and is therefore not representative of widespread distaste, or reviews are lying about their actual reasons for rating the game down or something along that line, but that’s basically never what actually has happened. I struggle to believe that anybody against review bombing or really people who bother defining review bombing as separate from “receiving negative reviews” could be anyone other than a blinded fanboy or corporate shill.

Overwatch, formerly known as overwatch 2, stole your 60 dollar game (anyone who bought OW1 LITERALLY got their game stolen and I'm shocked people just accepted this), were forced into an inferior live service f2p slop version of the game that was worse in every fricking way, were made a bunch of promises (including all your skins being transferred, a pve mode etc), then they did nothing with the game for months before dropping the fat deuce onto them, letting them know that the pve mode is cancelled, most of the skins didn't transfer, and they're adding some shitty paid expansions to the game. The game was doing so poorly blizztard is renaming the game from OVerwatch 2 to just overwatch.
The reviews are justified and they deserve even worse. Everyone involved with ow2 deserves death

well the majority of these reviews are legitimate criticism from actual fans who have played the game, and want to be outspoken on how they have been shafted by blizzard in the past. this isn't a "dev said something transphobic 3 years after the game came out so we are review bombing" it's mostly "warning not to support this developer's predatory behavior" from people who have been subjected to it and have had nowhere official to place that criticism until now.
launch week reviews probably shouldn't be hidden for 30 days or more, and some changes need to happen before said reviews ever qualify to be hidden. sure there are people shitposting about tf2 and admitting they are reviewbombing the game, but i'm actually reading these myself and even translating them from other languages, the majority are just people angry with what blizzard has done. you should check out the japanese reviews, they're incredibly civilized, factual, and absolutely divided on positive vs. negative.
the most ideal outcome is blizzard goes whining to valve because they think there is botting and dogpiling or otherwise illegitimate behavior going on, valve accurately surveys the criticism, removes some of the off-topic stuff, and responds by saying to them:
