You put -vgui command on the end of your steam shortcut properties and it will launch into old gui from it

No it’s not the same. You no longer get a notification that you got a message from a friend. I go invisible a lot when I just want to play games, and when I choose to go online again, I don’t get a message unless I open the steam chat in a browser. It’s a stupid, unnecessary change they did. And literally the old steam version is better because of this.

vgui doesn't work anymore after the latest update
find a download for one of the older versions of Steam, then make a Steam.cfg in the install folder, and inside it add this text:
BootStrapperInhibitAll=Enable
that'll disable all auto-updates. it's what I'm doing so I can keep using my MetroForSteam skin. frick Valve for removing skin support and making the new Steam UI use up so much memory.

in case that link only sends you to the folder with all the zips, you want 2023-05-30.zip, that's the last version before the UI changes.
if you want an even older UI, they have most of those backed up in there too, but I can't confirm if they still work fine or anything.

the archive has weird extensions, do i just rename them to .zip and extract everything in my steam installation folder, overwriting everything?
iirc I had to delete everything but my user folder (unless you don't care about losing saves and shit), otherwise it caused issues.
make a backup of your current Steam folder just in case.
and .7z is a zip file. you can rename it if whatever program you're using isn't recognizing it.

you don't need to rename anything if you're using 7zip, which you should be.
get rid of the Steam China folder, take all the zip.numbers files and put them in a folder somewhere. select all, choose "extract here", (overwrite if it asks, there's a few dupe files) delete the previously selected zip files to clean up the folder, and you'll be left with picrel.

When you set it to large mode then back to small mode it stays in large mode and just slides the entire UI off the screen so it seems like it's back to normal.
This is about as hacky as you can get from a coding perspective. I simply don't fricking trust someone who would write a program in that manner. It reeks of third world corner cutting.

New library UI is fricking great. Ingame overlay is literally godlike.

The issue isn't the layout. It's how shitty the fricking client has been made.
Hacky "fixes" to issues that should never exist in the first place, laggy and unresponsive navigation, lack of control for the end user (for instance no option to choose to open weblinks outside the client) and the list goes on.

When I press back for if I go somewhere like the store or workshop it sends me straight back to my library and there's no way to actually just go to the previous page.
