Install linux. I picked one at random, never had to use the terminal. Minimal fiddling, force proton in steam and lutris for gog games. Issues with games have often also affected users on windows. For everything else theres a free software for and rest is in a browser.
In that way its similar to windows, but without the forced updates introducing and turning on shit I dont need. While I can get around not using a MS account to log in, the ads in explorer, mssettings and start menu is just tiresome to keep removing.

the easiest solution is to just stay on an older version of CEF that still works on 7. nothing requires downstream apps to update their source builds. which is really just the whole "you should blindly upgrade for no reason because we said so" all over again. a launcher program isn't (or shouldn't be) a general browser. (the steam overlay does in fact have a general browser function for some reason despite nobody in their right mind ever using it as such). you shouldn't be able to use it to visit websites that aren't fully trusted by the app owner. so the security concerns are not real and never were, the correct security step here is to disable the general browser.

try running Paint for example on win10 and then win11 on a 1366x768 laptop, windows 11 UI eats up too much space with the top bar and leaves almost nothing for you to draw stuff on.
I dual booted it for a while but the couple of games I ran on it worked on 7 so it didn't make much sense to keep it. That said I am considering booting back up an older PC with XP and having a certified retro gaming computer in case.

Windows 7 still does receive security updates at least until 2024 so there's really a chance that this has nothing to do with the lifecycle of the OS. Even if someone grabs W10 IOT LTSC that receives updates until 2032, it would be pointless. This is all an over reliance on the Chrome browser.

Windows 10 has extended security updates until the 2030s. Both XP/Vista and W7/8 were supported by Steam for 4 years after the end of regular updates, so even if regular support ends in 2025 it'll probably be supported until like 2029. But even if it isn't, if you're already on 10 then W11 is just more of the same with a few annoying changes you have to fix.

Most of them probablly were using win7 and jumped ship lately due to Steam, Chrome or lack of updates for 7, but win11 with TPM, ads and pajeet level of coding might be even worse than win10 on release.

There actually is an Itch.io launcher for Linux, and it launches Windows games through the system's Wine, but you're probably better off launching them through Bottles which doesn't require any integration with the Itch.io launcher. You just add the games' executables. Bottles is really just a front-end for Wine that installs stuff like DXVK for you.
