As another anon pointed out. Actual siesta in spain started as a way to avoid the hottest sun hours for people who worked in the fields. Note that the actual siesta is like 30 minutes, with some people doing less or more. Beyond 1h it's no siesta, just lazyness.
If done correctly the siesta helps a lot to keep the mind clear for longer rather than going completly exchausted.
Siesta also makes no sense if you're the kind that sees relaxing, maditating or leaving your mind blank as a "waste of time", but that's an issue with your worldviews.
