The animations for this particular boss looks off (since the boss attacks seem to lack impact and phase through), but overall the gameplay still looks fun so its not a deal breaker for me

Why don't devs try to make up a fight system that's centered around fine tuned attacks, kind of similar to what you had in the showcase for that Deep Down game where you could free aim your spear/polearm anywhere on the enemy's body and just attack with it. That could be further improved on by giving the enemy armor and t hen certain gaps in in that you need to specifically aim for and hit if you want to do full or increased damage and shit. Just, please, for fricks sake, anything but the exact same type of gameplay. Start experimenting already.

As long as the only thing being copied is just the core gameplay mechanics. The levels, story, music, art direction, skills, progression, etc can all be different.

The game looks alright but I'd consider this an investment in a young studio, a game that doesn't follow the woke mob, and seems like a decent enough hack n slash Nier Automata-ish clone.
