They only go intentionally silly when it's Majima singing, and when your character is just cheering on someone else singing. Kiryu in particular has a damn good singing voice with his real VA.
I played it with the Japanese VA and I don't remember Kiryu sounding particularly good on Justice. I never really liked the karaoke game though so I didn't do all the songs, mostly just played it when I had to.
Really I preferred the cards above all the minigames, just wish there were a better photo gallery or better rewards than the somewhat cringe videos.

They've said previously that Kiwami games are generally a lot more effort than what their studio can generally afford to spare, so that's why they just upscaled textures for 3-5 (save for changing Tanimura's appearance in 4 as well) and shipped it out as a remaster.
It wasn't 0 that did the damage, it was the attention it received in the West. And the end of 5 isn't a problem whatsoever if you apply a little thought, or even take some plot convenience to avoid the beginning of 6, of course disregarding the lobotomy they gave Haruka. 5 has by far the most plot holes and character inconsistencies, but I can forgive it since the finale was good. 6 however just feels like a poorly cobbled together substitute for an original concept that didn't make the cut for time constraints, but they still had the secret, bosses, and setpieces set in stone, so they copied shit from 3, didn't get children into the booth to record lines, and just gave Haruka a kid because they needed something substantial for character growth at least to toss in there and finish it to at least be acceptable. But part of me knows that's not the case and it was all as intended just with some poor polish due to being rushed, which is even worse. I kinda wish I'd never started the series to begin with because I wouldn't have to get attached to characters to see them destroyed out of incompetence or a lack of care.

I remember seeing that one popular e-celeb YouTuber, Charlie Critikal, play Yakuza 7 as his first game ever in the franchise and the fricking homosexual was playing the game with the English audio turned on instead of Japanese. VAs are contract workers and can take many jobs but some studios like Blizzard can afford to basically buy out a VA's time. They do this just in case they would need the VA to come in suddenly and record a few lines out of the blue. VA's also need time to rest their voice. So the more jobs they are doing = the more rest time they need.
Everyone likes to point at Yong, but I feel like all the past Yakuza characters dub voices are not good fits after watching how they sounded in 7. The PS2 guys sound fine mainly because I was used to them and I genuinely like Date having Bill Farmer's old timey detective voice(that is probably going to be recast for 8) but the recasts/new casts for guys like Majima, Saejima, Daigo and such all just sound off.
A lot of the dubs positions in all media are being filled by a small group of people, generally associated with Funimation. It's a whole ass gatekeepers issue preventing entry into the industry, Yong is a homosexual who used his channel to skip the line, he deserves all the backlash he gets for exposing himself as the one dimensional bum he is. When I attended the panel at Anime Expo, Yokoyama, Kuroda, and KSON were all generally pretty nice and looked happy to be there and answer questions. It just made him look fricking pathetic, and it's even better now that people are in agreement that he's a shithead.

Yong has a good and relatively deep normal talking voice but VA work is completely different, especially acting a very different range. Other issue is that JP characters embody their personality in their voices, you know right away who is talking even if you don't see them. Kiryu is this honorable and wise samurai (sorry I don't know the exact term, I'm sure there is one) and like most of the voices it is very specific. That is why I don't like English dubs in general unless the game was made with it in mind (like RE or FF).
I'm not comparing it to my voice but to other people. Personally I'm in the Kiryu range because I'm a 6'3" manly boomer. Yong has terrible speaking habits (and still doesn't write his shit beforehand) but his voice is pleasant which is really important if you run a YT news reading channel.

It's not even JUST the autotune that creates the problem, it's how there's no emotion in his voice. Even the JP Yakuza karaoke songs have some moments where there are obvious bits of autotune, but they don't get the same level of hate because the song still sounds fine since they're actually showing emotion when they perform.

I played it with the Japanese VA and I don't remember Kiryu sounding particularly good on Justice. I never really liked the karaoke game though so I didn't do all the songs, mostly just played it when I had to.

Ishin earlier this year was a Kiwami game. They just dropped that from the title in the west because we never got the original game.
They've said previously that Kiwami games are generally a lot more effort than what their studio can generally afford to spare, so that's why they just upscaled textures for 3-5 (save for changing Tanimura's appearance in 4 as well) and shipped it out as a remaster.
0 didn't do nearly as much damage to the series as Haruka did at the end of 5 and the fricking entirety of 6.
It wasn't 0 that did the damage, it was the attention it received in the West. And the end of 5 isn't a problem whatsoever if you apply a little thought, or even take some plot convenience to avoid the beginning of 6, of course disregarding the lobotomy they gave Haruka. 5 has by far the most plot holes and character inconsistencies, but I can forgive it since the finale was good. 6 however just feels like a poorly cobbled together substitute for an original concept that didn't make the cut for time constraints, but they still had the secret, bosses, and setpieces set in stone, so they copied shit from 3, didn't get children into the booth to record lines, and just gave Haruka a kid because they needed something substantial for character growth at least to toss in there and finish it to at least be acceptable. But part of me knows that's not the case and it was all as intended just with some poor polish due to being rushed, which is even worse. I kinda wish I'd never started the series to begin with because I wouldn't have to get attached to characters to see them destroyed out of incompetence or a lack of care.

That's Gengo? Probably a scheduling conflict. Blizzard probably has him locked down tight. VAs are contract workers and can take many jobs but some studios like Blizzard can afford to basically buy out a VA's time. They do this just in case they would need the VA to come in suddenly and record a few lines out of the blue. VA's also need time to rest their voice. So the more jobs they are doing = the more rest time they need.

I just beat the game, and Yong is absolutely fricked. There is absolutely no way someone like him can deliver on the final scene.
Everyone likes to point at Yong, but I feel like all the past Yakuza characters dub voices are not good fits after watching how they sounded in 7. The PS2 guys sound fine mainly because I was used to them and I genuinely like Date having Bill Farmer's old timey detective voice(that is probably going to be recast for 8) but the recasts/new casts for guys like Majima, Saejima, Daigo and such all just sound off.
A lot of the dubs positions in all media are being filled by a small group of people, generally associated with Funimation. It's a whole ass gatekeepers issue preventing entry into the industry, Yong is a homosexual who used his channel to skip the line, he deserves all the backlash he gets for exposing himself as the one dimensional bum he is. Him and ProZD think Le Deep Voice is the same as actual voice acting talent.

When I attended the panel at Anime Expo, Yokoyama, Kuroda, and KSON were all generally pretty nice and looked happy to be there and answer questions. It just made him look fricking pathetic, and it's even better now that people are in agreement that he's a shithead.

Yong has a good and relatively deep normal talking voice but VA work is completely different, especially acting a very different range. Other issue is that JP characters embody their personality in their voices, you know right away who is talking even if you don't see them. Kiryu is this honorable and wise samurai (sorry I don't know the exact term, I'm sure there is one) and like most of the voices it is very specific. That is why I don't like English dubs in general unless the game was made with it in mind (like RE or FF).

I'm not comparing it to my voice but to other people. Personally I'm in the Kiryu range because I'm a 6'3" manly boomer. Yong has terrible speaking habits (and still doesn't write his shit beforehand) but his voice is pleasant which is really important if you run a YT news reading channel.

It's not even JUST the autotune that creates the problem, it's how there's no emotion in his voice. Even the JP Yakuza karaoke songs have some moments where there are obvious bits of autotune, but they don't get the same level of hate because the song still sounds fine since they're actually showing emotion when they perform.
