If they were smart they'd develop a sequel with significant overlap in content allowing them to make 2 games for the cost of 1, they did similar things for Xenoblade 3 which used assets from Xenoblade 2, maybe 1 definitive, I don't remember entirely.
3 didn’t use a whole lot of assets from XCDE (barring the obvious land masses that comprised Aionios), as those were effectively just upscaled Wii models, but it did pull a lot from 2 when it comes to things like enemies and such.
If they were to port X, I can absolutely see them making a brief epilogue or prequel story to tie into the package that sets up a potential sequel. Perhaps something that fills in some of the plot holes between the numbered games and X, and allows both it and Xenosaga to fit more tightly into the mainline Xenoblade canon.
I'm more hoping that they go straight into X 2 and just port X to the new iteration of the engine reusing X 2's assets where applicable and redoing older assets to match the new quality. hoping but I don't expect this to pass at all.

That would be awesome, but would probably be too expensive for a remake of that caliber. I expect something similar to XCDE; same assets and animations, just with some prettied up lighting and better character models, as well as an updated UI.
