Based, also thanks for making a thread that's neither a fallout, morrowind nor bearsgay thread. I played survive when it came but I wouldn't call it an rpg. Dawn/dusk was great though.
I've played Survive through twice, and the second time was with the true ending route. If Survive was only a pure VN with no combat, it would be a mediocre VN. There are only 3 normal routes, and each one has a mostly unsatisfactory ending. You will feel like you failed somehow because characters die each time. The best VNs have multiple endings that feel good, like how dating VNs let you choose different girls or you might side with a specific faction in a military/battle story. Digimon Survive tries to be a horror story, but really it just feels depressing because characters die when they have a mental breakdown and suddenly become invompetent or evil, not because you took a wrong turn or weren't quick enough to save them. So if it was just a VN, I would say it's just "mid".
But the SRPG component is supposed to be a big feature too. In practice, there is very little strategy involved. The first time through, battles have some degree of challenge, but quickly become trivial if you aren't a literal child and can grasp the strategy of virus/vaccine/data and the element advantages. A game like Fire Emblem or Final Fantasy Tactics makes the combat of Survive feel like a minigame by comparison. Also, the SRPG portions are all just win or lose. There are no choices to be made in battles, and nothing you do impacts the routes or story at all, further making the combat feel rather inconsequential in such a story-heavy game.
The true ending route somewhat redeems the game, if you just want to play through something that feels like an anime journey. It's satisfies most character arcs and has some good epic battles. But you have to replay a lot of the same story (it's NG+ only) that is only marginally different until the very end. It's not a completely bad game; it's just very mediocre and almost reaching bad for both the genres it blends, which feels worse since a "Digimon VN/SRPG" sounds like such a promising concept.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that the true ending is also just an expanded version of one of the other 3 routes. So really it's more like the game has 3-and-a-quarter routes instead 4.
I think the "horror" genre choice was a mistake, and they should have focused more on having various branched endings that don't feel like you just straight-up failed. Also should have focused more on the how your choices impact the digimon and less on the children themselves having PTSD-induced panic attacks.

Ah, thanks for the explanation. Maybe I will wait for a deep discount and ask on the steam forums for save that has the true route unlocked.
Well then.
What would you want from a new Digimon RPG? Would you be okay with them doing an SMT-lite again or take influence from another game? More focus on mon breeding & raising or less?
C'mooon anon let us know about you dream digimon title!
What I want from a digimon rpg >Having evos be tied to player choices like in survive >Explorable world like in re digitize / world / next order
I don't really know what would be best for combat, definitely not what survive did. Perhaps going back to turn based like CS could be good.
>Would you be okay with them doing an SMT-lite again
They never made smt-lites, The CS were terrible copies of Persona made for morons that don't understand why people like Fatlus games. Even Compile Hearts puts some nice gimmick or mechanic in their crap so it's kind of endearing, but Digimon games are pure crap.
If they hate Digimon that much, they should stop making Digimon games instead of chasing trends without putting an once of passion in it.
I can't wait for them to make a somehow crappier PalWorld. >What do you want?
I don't know how to improve the combat.
Story wise I want something like Digimon GG with his disturbing yet cheerful atmosphere and no Adventure wank.
I'm so fricking tired of Agumon and co. The new Digimon are good, they should use them and it should be set in the Digiworld and there should be some cute e-girls too.
Either another game trying to be like World 1 but good this time, a normal JRPG heavily reskined into a digimon one so it plays without too many gimmick stuff and has a lot of computer and technology terms in it, or a card game RPG.

Habu Kazumasa has announced that he is no longer in charge of producing Digimon games.
they need to boot everyone involved in the last few games before they try again or they'll just keep digging themselves further while they're already 6 feet under
I just want a good SRPG.. Survive was like the monkey's paw kinda wish. Digimon have so many attacks and a field could make excellent work for all the varied abilities.
So I started CS yesterday and...it's really bad so far. Whats the point of evolving and devolving exactly if it resets the levels? Also the AI is so bad I had to remove all heal moves because it would waste SP otherwise. Leveling feels really bad too since you are stuck in kawloon 1-3 for over 10 horus now and there are no high level mobs? Should I just use those free mega NX digimon and ignore battles altogether or something? I'm tempted to take at least one for high security skill otherwise I might actually drop the game. And the writing... man
Do not use the Mega NX. They're rookies and remain rookies, they're just for fun.
If you want a high level training spot the coliseum on the fourth floor of Nanako gives high quality EXP (Especially Gold Cup). Just make sure not to kill the final boss of it or else you can't continue.
Also you'll want to breed PlatinumSukemon/PlatinumSukemon as they give bonus EXP for being in front of party. Load them with Tactician USB's (Can be made on farm at the 1000 option with three to five development know how farm. Savescum it if you really want them fast)
Lowering and raising levels gets you more ABI. Which lets you train higher stats on the farm for benefits. Generally you don't need to do this but some of the optional stuff you may want it for later.
Can't continue farming it I mean. Since you'll only get the higher ones based on plot progression.
ABI also gatekeeps you from certain digimon. While they're not necessary the 80 ABI megas can be quite powerful but generally you'll be able to get away with what kind of digimon you like. Just keep a balanced team.

When digimon are close on the turn counter they can perform a cross combo. Depending on what move was done it boosts them in some way (Attacking gives more hits, healing does more heal, damage skills more damage). Combo chance goes up with CAM.
If you like games for babies you're either mentally stunted or a pedophile.
but enough about PoE fans, this is a digimon thread.

Well, I for a fact know I'm not mentally stunted.
have a nice day.
You're right, I think this newfangled television will never catch on.
Only with the low class.
Pretty sure survive killed the series for at least 5 more years
It will come back. Eventually.
I fricking hate that game and its defenders.
what's so bad about Survive?

Survive is on my wishlist. What's wrong with it?
Can't force myself to finish next order, story progression is so slow. I reached 50 prosperity and got nothing to do really.
Well then.

I'm surprised Dracomon hasn't been utilized

Just make a more polished version of world 3.
Digimon is a cheap knockoff franchise
who gives a shit lol
and an image from one of the worst zelda games
at least your taste is consistently bad
Surely it will get announced at Digimon Con, r-right?
Big doubt

So guy behind CS and survive leaves, now what? An actual game before 2030?
i want the TCG but on the computer, like master duel
they need to boot everyone involved in the last few games before they try again or they'll just keep digging themselves further while they're already 6 feet under

how do combos work
When digimon are close on the turn counter they can perform a cross combo. Depending on what move was done it boosts them in some way (Attacking gives more hits, healing does more heal, damage skills more damage). Combo chance goes up with CAM.
Because you can't fully evolve them unless you devolve to get API and it encourages switching lines based on moves or atrributes you need.
Wait two more weeks anon
Not gonna happen
Just straight up make a digimon dating game.
Why would there be? We knew a new Story featuring the Olympos 12 is coming after Survive for ages.
The really fricked up thing about Digimon games is that Bandai refuses to do a TCG client of some kind.
