It's crazy isn't it? Tommy literally just composed all of the music and made all of the sound effects and the created the entire game around what he did! In some way I think you could say Tommy literally created the entire game!
It's crazy isn't it? Tommy literally just composed all of the music and made all of the sound effects and the created the entire game around what he did! In some way I think you could say Tommy literally created the entire game!
Tommy Tallarico met with Siguru Miyamoto and Miyamoto-sama picked Tommy to lead the sound design for Metroid Prime since he had such huge faith in Tommy and was a huge Metroid fan. Together they had many long talks about video games, including what made Super Mario World the perfect game. In the end, Tallarico designed four separate blaster sounds, which was so influential they decided to change the design of the game around it.
What in the frick. This guy should have youtubegays making video essays on this guy.
He seems like such a cool dude as well, it seems criminal that he's not a vidya celeb. I feel like a fraud for not knowing about him

He even helped Miyamoto create the wii.

Ooooh I wonder if he's the guy who suggested putting the speaker on the controller. I remember Miyamoto or Iwata saying that some devs were asking for the speaker on the controller.
I guess it had potential, but honestly, I think it was a bit of a flop. Cool idea on paper, but a bit pointless in practice. It's like ps4's light bar thing. Cool idea to have the controller light up, but since you're never looking at your hands while playing, what's the point?

Going through a series of levels acquiring new abilities to explore further in previous areas is far more interesting and replayable than linear levels.
which is done fairly well in other metroid games, but done terribly in metroid prime due to the extremely long periods of time it took to backtrack. it was tedious and boring.

I have more than a year of playtime on one runescape account from about the same period of my life. fricking runescape kept my attention and metroid prime didn't. that's how completely uninteresting metroid prime was.

It's a Metroid game. No fricking shit there's backtracking. Only Primebabbies hate this aspect of the game.

I wouldn't blame someone for disliking metroid if their first game was prime, though that wasn't my personal experience. it would be a very dull introduction to a franchise that has a couple of decent games.
Prime is more characterized by its adventure elements than its shooter aspect.
And as a shooter it would be a bad shooter: 1 weapon, infinite ammo, lock-on.
It's an adventure game in first person
>"I-It doesn't have all these other things in other shooters, so it's considered a bad shooter and not an FPS.
Yes, but why is a shooter that lacks all of these considered bad when it clearly works here? Why can't have lock on? If the gameplay was as bad as you claim it was, then this game wouldn't have sold nearly as well as it did and this thread wouldn't even exist. >"IT'S JUST NOT, OKAY?"
Quakegays are once again on their crusade to shit on every other shooter.
Everyone's played Quake, dipshit. No one's saying it isn't on FPS Rushmore. It's Quake's abhorrent fanbase that everyone hates because they do nothing but attack everyone else. They are the Տonyggers of the FPS umbrella.
GOAT first person adventure platformer with shooting.
TERRIBLE first person shooter, but I respect an OP who knows how to bait without being an absolute petulant c**t so good job, enjoy your (You).
I 100%d this game purely out of spite and to add weight to my opinion that it's fricking DOG SHIT. This is the worst game in any mainline Nintendo series and is the reason Metroid has sucked for the past 20 years. Literally nothing has come close to the 2D games, not even the 2.5D ones since they all use the parry system started in Prime. yeah, great... let's just elevate minor enemy fights into forced battles where you're punished for not only parrying/countering for the entire fight. This game is the cancer that has infected and killed real Metroid.
Not even the best of the series. Prime 3 is only the best fps due to it's controls. Without them 1&2 would be miserable experiences. Atrificial length made by getting people stuck. No reward for exploration just back and forth backtracking.
Too bad the wiiu was a low spec insult that eliminated the wiimote. Metroid Prime 4 could have been incredible.
the original controls weren't great but plays well on m+k,I hate how you have to be told to go somewhere before you can go there, its especially bad at the bottom of the sunken ship
It's honestly a miracle that Metroid Prime is as good as it was. It had basically everything working against it. >Guy gets fired from Iguana Entertainment >Tells Iguana to get fricked and somehow convinces a bunch of their talent to join him >Makes new company >Gets Nintendo funding (I guess through connections after Turok???) >Basically just uses the money to pay employees and then live a life of luxury, never bothers coming in to the office any more, hires hookers and shit and films softcore/hardcore (I can't quite remember) and hosts it on Nintendo servers >Nintendo comes for a visit to see what their money's doing for them >Flips the FRICK out over boss man, who wasn't at the office at the time. >Forces him out, takes the reigns >Devs show them a few tech demos they had working, basically frick all >Miyamoto says "turn this one into Metroid" >Devs go "wtf?? How?" >They start work, with Nintendo looking over their shoulder and Miyamoto providing a lot of guidance, but leaving them to make the game >Reveal goes fricking horribly, Metroid fans hate it, it's a 3D shooter, not a Metroid game at all >No faith, ridiculed in magazines and online >No hype whatsoever >Devs continue on anyways and release it >Instant smash success, blows everyone's breasts off >One of the best games of all time, fans start arguing over whether Super Metroid or Prime is better.
It's quite literally a miracle game. I don't think anything has as big a success story as Metroid Prime and it still holds up to this very day.
Incredible

Killer Instinct 2013. Killer Instinct 2013 part 2: Iron Galaxy.
Imagine being in that meeting and he says that shit.
You're there, knowing you're showing him basically nothing at all, hoping that you're showing him something worthwhile that he can grab onto and say "ok this is good, let's do this one"
And he starts telling you to stop showing you bullshit.
I would have been mentally preparing my CV, expecting the company to be killed right then and there.
Fricking spectacular play that he didn't though. Say what you will about Miyamoto, not every idea or game he makes is a smash success, he's had his fair share of frick ups, but when that man is on a roll, holy frick is he ever the GOAT.
Didn't think it was that ambiguous. I like it. It's not the best suit and it did look like a kid decided to test out all the different colours on one drawing, but it still works in the game's style.
Recently emulated this because I missed out on lots of gamecube games and it was very mediocre. Meh gameplay, almost nonexistent story, endless boring backtracking. Only the music was any good.
I was watching a bunch of videos on Retro's failed pitches. Honestly a lot of it sounded like they had a bunch of ambitious ideas, but no gameplay concept to back them up. Especially evident with that Shiek game they pitched.
Too many FPS games forgot their Doom roots. Metroid Prime took direct inspiration from it in the transition to 3D. Enemies are used to guard key areas and combat comes with exploration.
Well they make games instead of movies
It's good but not the best.
What'd you consider the best?
Tommy Tallarico's greatest work.
It's crazy isn't it? Tommy literally just composed all of the music and made all of the sound effects and the created the entire game around what he did! In some way I think you could say Tommy literally created the entire game!

not an fps. its an adventure game in first person.
It's a shooting game that is entirely from the first persion viewpoint. It is, by definition, an FPS.
I guarantee you people wouldn't spout such garbage if the game released on any other platform.

It's a 3D Metroidvania.
That’s not Call of Duty though
I remember how everyone used to say
>Um actually it's FPA not FPS, pleb
Miyamoto was the one that wanted it to be in first person, so you can partially thank him.
It's not an FPS.
>greatest console FPS
>lock-on Aiming
Lmao well, I guess so.
original or remastered?
Remastered on pc with kb/m
original on PC with PrimeHack
It bored me, for console FPS, i think halo is the best.
Completely and utterly fried dopamine receptors. Stick to free to play online slop.
i much prefer SPfps, just don't care for prime.
Damn kids aren't patient enough to stop and admire the raindrops.
I don't see the point of hours of gameplay being made up of repetitive backtracking. it's not good game design.
Going through a series of levels acquiring new abilities to explore further in previous areas is far more interesting and replayable than linear levels.

Quakegays are once again on their crusade to shit on every other shooter.
It works because the game isn't all about shooting, it's not a shooter, just like how mirror's edge and skyrim aren't shooters.
You never played, or in your zoomer terms, watched, a single fricking second of Quake.
Everyone's played Quake, dipshit. No one's saying it isn't on FPS Rushmore. It's Quake's abhorrent fanbase that everyone hates because they do nothing but attack everyone else. They are the Տonyggers of the FPS umbrella.

sorry, only the nips make good Metroid games.
that was one of the most boring games I have ever played.
Did 2 sell well when it came out? I wonder if they will assume a full remaster won't be profitable when comparing the sales of the originals.
You're fricking moronic

Overrated "hidden gem". Would be better if the movement in the Slavedriver engine wasn't so shitty.

Careful, anons. QuakeBlack person will get mad for bringing up more FPS games that do more than just shoot enemies and proceed to the next room.

I haven't ever heard of any dev tales about KI 2013. Link? Or story?
I like how Miyamoto was so unimpressed by the other demos he straight up asked why they were even showing him the car combat one, brutal.

She looks like she's from an 80s movie. Fits the suit.
Since Metroid is supposed to draw strong inspiration from Alien, I'd say they crushed it.
>crushed it
Ambiguous word choice. I can't tell if you hate it or not.
Didn't think it was that ambiguous. I like it. It's not the best suit and it did look like a kid decided to test out all the different colours on one drawing, but it still works in the game's style.

Honestly I'd argue that Prime has more Turok DNA than Doom DNA.
After getting their deviancy out like hosting porn with nintendo servers, doing drugs, they sat down and focused with vigor.
with a troubled development too
