let's be honest, FF has a harder job than DQ. FF has to reinvent itself with every game, DQ can refine, polish, build on what already worked. Its still impressive that DQ has so many amazing games, but the thing is that they know what makes DQ fun and can repeat that. FF has to come up with a new way of "being fun" with every game. i am a huge DQ fan and consider it the best video game series by sheer quality, but it's not as ambitious as FF.
For instance, a great DQ story has a certain structure that FF cannot use. A good DQ story focuses on a simple theme, usually inspired by fairy tale stories, and does everything it can in its power to draw the player in and make him feel involved with the theme and move emotionally /surprise him in some way. DQ11's story was built around the transition from act 1 to act 2, in act 1 you were built up as the hope for everyone and the ultimate legendary hero who has to fix everything, but you end up losing at the end of act 1. the game tries to make you feel involved with the story by making you feel guilty for not living up to the expectations of being a luminary everyone had for you, and you try to desperately make things right. it's a very interesting way to make you feel like a JRPG hero and get you truly involved with the adventure and characters around you. but FF cannot copy that because at its core it's just a very classic story extremely well done.
FF has to be original and ambitious. the perfect FF is as strange and dreamy as FF8, as innovative in storytelling as FF7, have set pieces as spectacular as FFVI (or FFXVI) etc.
A good FF cannot be good in the same way DQ is good.
This is probably the most expensive game to launch this year, except for Starshart. And it launched with no bugs, no DLC plotholes in 100% complete state so we know they're not deducting scores for that.

There's so much to criticize and instead I see like 50 threads where some stupid homosexual is hooting like a moronic chimp because the magic number it got is lower than the magic number some other piece of shit got.

The Hideaway is its own underground railroad. This wouldn't be so annoying if the story didn't make it a focal point (so far) with all the nuance of a Saturday morning cartoon on the Disney Channel. It ACTIVELY makes the story worse. Cid is cool. Clive is cool. Gav and other characters are great. Dion's introduction is fricking fantastic. But the racism allegory shit is just rote and boring. They give a separate embargo for reviews above 8/10 and for those below it, yes it's fricked up but it's pretty common for AAA releases
If you're wondering why there are bad reviews if that's the case, those sites either dont have an agreement with SE or dont care about being put on a blacklist
but there are a bunch of sub 8 reviews on meta at the moment

Clive's tragic backstory is probs the best part of the game
