God I love the presentation of this game so much. I didn't make it far into the game itself when I emulated it since I wasn't really interested by the combat or dungeon crawling, but it still sticks with me. The premise, music, and aesthetics are so damn good.

some like it, some don't. they definitely botchered some stuff as well.

Depends.
Portraits are worse since they aren't done by kaneko, but now every named human character has a portrait now instead of just (you) and the 3 alignment reps also they all emote now instead of just having one static portrait.
Doom guy received a buff in something called commander skills.
Commander skills are basically support skills are basically once per turn free action support skills as in you can use them on top of attacking/defending/using an item.
They all have a cool down so you can't spam one every turn.
They are pretty useful, but they can trivialize some bosses like ouroborous by making you immune to ailments for 3 turns.
There is also a new dungeon called the womb of grief that is basically labyrinth of amala 2.0.
Just like amala it makes the game a bit easier since you'll get more exp, because you're tackling another dungeon on the side.
In the new law and chaos endings the obligatory atlus girl basically tells that jiminez and zelenen that what they are doing is moronic and makes them come to their senses.
So now law and chaos are not basically glorified bad endings and actually have a positive effect on humanity.
New neutral has doom guy literally ascend to become the actual doom guy and now he upholds the status quou by speedrunning the schwarzvelt everytime it comes back and the time between the time he just chills on the moon with Arthur.
In my opinion a lot of pros and cons that is up for (you) to decide if it's worth playing over the OG or not.

Her theme is also one of the best tracks in the game
You forgot the OTHER thing that was changed, which it was the Sub-apps being unlimited to used instead of having a certain limit.
Sub-Apps (Passive skills) on the original had a slot limit, but also a point system, so you had to plan accordingly each time on what you were going to use.
Say you had following:
>MP walk regen II costs 10 points
>Needed another skill that costs 6 points
>Not enough points, can't add
>Downgrade to MP walk regen I that costs 6 points
>Add needed skill on the available slot
Redux completely removes this altogether, you just activate them all without preplanning your mission, so this is probably one of the bigger negatives the people who played the original mention, even more when they even give you exploration bonus apps right from the start of the game which just makes it piss easy, yet most newcomers to SJ playing Redux wouldn't have any fricking idea if its actually from the OG game or not.
SMT IV was the last good one, and again it was thanks to Kaneko giving the main setting idea too.

I'm loving this game so far, but Ouroboros phase 2 is destroying me. I wasted a bunch of essences and items on the first phase, and am level 41. Any advice or strategies since his physical move is almost a death sentence

SJ's characters and setting gave me comfy Star Trek vibes at certain points. I wish the writing leaned more into the logistics and "competence porn" angle.
