Eh, kinda. Battletech can be a skirmish game with only a lance or two on each side at its lowest level to an epic combined arms campaign wargame/RPG hybrid that definitely feels like it could have only been made in the 80’s.
MechWarrior is good at the former and dogshit at the latter.
Because MechWarrior is mainly a mech sim game. It's about the feel of piloting the mech. The other content is an after thought. Or rather it'd be too expensive and time consuming to add immersive simulationist gameplay on top of an epic campaign. It's too much of a niche title to hope for something that ambitious. If you want combined arms then your only hope is MegaMek or tabletop. If you want a more ambitious computer game then I guess they could adapt Alpha Strike as that very streamlined and perfect for more lances/stars + combined arms.
I mean, I've played tabletop games of BattleTech where there were ship-to-ship space battles happening in orbit of a planet while simultaneously doing lance vs lance combat on the planet itself. It was awesome, but translating that into a computer game? Well, good luck!

If they released more often they'd probably feel more compelled to do new things. A few standout hits like DOOM broke the mold, but that game was designed with ease of access in mind. It'd be like comparing modern CoD with Flight Sim, except games of Flight Sim's caliber were much more common whereas the more pick-up-and-play style of PC game like DOOM were not the majority yet, not until the later 90s.

I've watched literap hours of gameplay to hype mysepf up on this game, but I'm still so fricking bored by it. Every lission just seems to be spawning in a small arena, easily killing a few trash mobs, destroying 5 generators/turrets and sometimes a boss spawns. The story is mainly told through cringe poorly acted phone calls and the game looks like it belongs on the PS3, so even the spectacle and presentation can't keep me engaged.

Game runs fine but have an major issue with shuttering, fps sometimes drop from 60 to 30, weird thing is game runs super smooth when you turn off hyperthreading but this will break the game and makes loading time takes forever

I mean yeah, it's a mecha game. You zoom around blasting your guns while dodging incoming fire. You'll also spend a ton of time in the garage building the mech itself from different parts, customizing colors etc.

Mech multiplayer games will never become mainstream, they always filter out the casual audience. We had Titanfall which was the best imagination of pilot + mech battle squandered.
Hawken but I have to say the developer was to blame for it as well. Chromohounds which was the last Mechwarrior type to exist dead by Microsoft exclusivity.
I honestly think a Planetside 2 like armored only game is possible with mechs / choppers/ tanks and convoys but a man can dream.

I don't play mech game so can't really judge the quality but it looks like ACbros should be proud. seems like the game is gatekeeping itself nicely.
It's great, the game isn't hard just brings back the age old formula of not being stubborn when you approach a problem. Pretty much the technical/ engineering autistic mindset.
I have no idea how the game is filtering casuals so badly though, the game play formula has always been prepare well, then just play off pure instinct, kill fast, be violent.
The only people hating on this game are zoomer gays too poor for a PC or a PS5. They literally cannot enjoy it.
