He's absolutely good, it's not gimmicks anymore his stuff is mad safe and cheap while still carrying the knowledge checks.
I just don't want to make split second judgments yet since I'm no pro. Even without fullscreen ball he's got all these weird mixups and now that doll. A few times I got hit with full screen DR sweep too because I didn't expect to be hit that fast at that range from a low.
The drive rush sweep is a low profile too so you can't fireball him at all and it will go under a huge number of drive impacts.
Pick to always play your main’s theme online. Main Jamie.

Needs drinks to truly be good but drinks are hard to get in a round.
His range seems to be lacking and his punish game also looks weak.
I've seen some people pop off with the character but I feel they need to do far more work than the other characters.
I don’t understand why Manon is allowed to keep her medals but Jamie’s drink counter resets. Surely if he gets to keep his drinks then he instantly becomes B-tier at the very least.

Ken is really good at beating the absolute shit out of my opponents very quickly.
His moveset in this game is fun. He has really solid normals that are easy to combo into his special moves, some of which can even further mix up the enemy or force them to switch sides with you.
He’s one of the strongest characters in the game right now.
JP makes people seethe like almost no one else (Manon might beat him in that regard but I don't play her). He's imo not overpowered, but he's both strong AND cheap.

If they're in range to hit you after they jump, either 6HK or 2HP depending on range. 6HK has higher reward (you can cancel it into, as an example, 236KK -> 22P -> level 3 super) but 2HP forces a restand, which lets you get a high/low/throw mix when they touch the ground if you cancel it into 236K or 214K
If you're worried about either of those buttons missing, air throw is strong on any character who has one, and JP has one

But for some ungodly stupid fricking reason not only is Modern controls available everywhere, it's even available in fricking competition! The best players in the world are all able to choose Modern if they want and play for money. I actually cannot believe it. They do 20 percent less damage unless they input the special and at that point you aren't gaining any benefit from modern

so you get the perks of auto combos with full damage and can still input the motions for full damage
only downside is losing some normals which varies between characters as being a handicap
Here's how it works
>normals are always full damage
>if you input the special or super motion you get full damage
>if you hit the special button or super button you get -20% damage
>if you autocombo into a special or super you get full damage
So for example a modern Marisa who just hits MMMMMM and gets target combo, EX uppercuts, kick level 3 deals their full 4k+ damage, but if they were to do MM and then switch to hitting back SS, S down Super or whatever they'd get 20% less on the specials and supers.
So if you want to play modern for one button specials and supers you're gimping yourself, but if you want to play it to just never drop a combo you're getting pure benefit.
If they were so objectively better, why are only nearly zero % of the pro gamer population using modern controls?

I think they designed Drive how it is to make adjustments easy. Something as simple as raw DR from Parry costing 2 instead of 1 will have a major effect.

Actually, autocombos don't have the modern controls damage scaling applied to them. Only when you do moves with simplified inputs outside of autocombos do you lose 20% damage, and if you do the manual inputs for those moves while in modern you lose nothing too.
I don't get why people always do this. You don't need to act like strong tools aren't good, the ability to mash mk and forward with no timing or input concerns and get a corner carry, hard knockdown, and 3800 damage with 2 drive gauge spent isn't bad. Yes, you might squeeze 700 more damage in if playing classic and spending an additional 3 drive gauge for a drive rush cancel, with having to manually do each input. But it can leave you with less drive gauge, be dropped, and ultimately gives you enough damage that you had to make one less successful read in comparison.
If the tools are strong why aren't people winning tournaments with them.

Think of it as a scrub filter. Same as losing to someone just spamming projectiles, just lame it out and force them to actually play the video game.
All Cammy players do trial combos for no reason other than to show off. Classic Cammy players will do their Level 2 to Level 1 combos instead of something easier into Level 3 even if it won't kill either way. Modern players are stuck with unoptimal routes unless they awkwardly go in and out of different modes and do motions in the combo.

People who play any game a long time will poke holes in its design even if they like it. V was pretty fricked up but I think most people agree it very, very slowly improved with time. 4 was all over the place in terms of mechanics and balance but a lot of people liked it anyway. The positive sentiment towards 6 will probably stick unless they frick up big time or some nasty exploit is found and not fixed.

It's definitely still on classic. Might frick with my deadzone settings to make it better. I don't remember having the dp instead of qcf problem in any other games even though I do dp inputs with forward then qcf anyway.

Yes, the controller I'm using has a shitty dpad that inputs the wrong directions sometimes and they haven't fixed this issue for years. Don't play fighting games that often so don't want to invest in a fightstick.

It's either fricked up or simplified. People discovered you can do DP by pressing just forward then down. Giefs pildriver only requires QCB plus the first diag up.
You can also do that in sf4 and sf5. Input buffer feels the same as in sf5 IMO.

Whiff punishing is reaction + read. 90% of the time you are walking in and out of the range of a specific move you notice the opponent likes to use when trying to keep you out, and react to them twitching. You can't even really confirm if the move you are aiming to whiff punish is the your opponent used.

I feel like avatar fights could've been big if the RPG stats didn't carry over from World Tour for some fricking reason. Being able to fight someone 10 levels and 5k HP higher than you is moronic.
Probably would've been cool if they normalized stats and made it so only accessories did anything, since they tend to have tradeoffs like getting a damage boost for having your HP drained.

I think it would better if there was a set of slots for Avatar Battles that have fixed stats based on style (maybe with some slight changes based on avatar height and reach), and some limits in terms of build (5 or 6 special slots and 1 or 2 aerial specials are probably enough). It should also be far easier to swap between avatars/appearances/builds, just some sort of single hot-swappable slot that will swap everything for free without needing you to exit BH or spend Drive Tickets, and go through like 3 different menus to equip everything properly. Also offline avatar versus when?

Pretty sure I've only ever won so far, which is part of the problem; I want it to be fair so people play it more as it's a fun addition. I guess eventually everyone will be level 100 and it'll be reasonably fair again, but I worry it won't be as fun because there will be less variation compared to when specials feel like bigger choices (like why would you not take Dhalsim's teleports when you have the additional slots you can't do much else with because of modern control limitations?).
Being able to setup multiple Avatars with their own moves & outfits alongside their physical appearance so you can have Local matches with them is something they NEED to add, yeah,

What exactly was it that was making people rate Guile so highly? And I don't mean from the beta. Why is he sudenly middling? It feels like no one actually knows how to rate Guile because of how few people play him.
People thought his buttons were too good but his pokes are completely nullified thanks to the drive system. Also everyone saw clips of Guile doing insane combos in the corner which turned out to be impossible on release.
I've seen people rating him highly post-release, so I don't think that's it. Guile has DR himself and easily opens up any opponent with DR c.MK>2MP. Not really, but why would you? The target combo I described is pretty much a guaranteed opening. If they block low, the overhead will hit, and of course, if the block high, they take the whole thing and whatever else you add after. Very easy to follow with 2MP>2MP>Somersault Kick but you could probay also start something with 4HP>DR or just cancel into Hurricane.

Its not that hard to make a decent looking character to use without resorting to freakshow mutant, just spend a little time tweaking it and then maybe retweaking it after seeing it in cutscenes/battle which gives you a new perspective and might show you little flaws that need ironing out.

What does "hit confirm" means? Like you try and poke and when you see it lands you string with a combo? If so, how do you do that lel? It seems like you gotta have really fast reaction speed

If you hit somebody with a light punch, for example, you know you can combo into something else from there. yes it takes reaction speed, but its mostly practice and reflex after a while

I've been playing SF for decades, and been playing this game since launch, and I haven't done a single fricking combo trial. Work on basics like not jumping, defending, learning your opponents moves, etc. before you start focusing on long combos. What good is a combo if you cant even stay alive long enough to use it?
Don't forget combo fishing. Killed me more often than I'd like to admit

It means you hit, see that the hit has landed, and choose to combo into a special or super after.
In practice this usually *not* done by just being ultra fast with your reaction times and input speed. The motion is buffered before you know whether hit occurs or not, and you need only react to the "confirm" visual or audio cue and complete the motion. The more frames cancelable frames a move has the easier it is going to be. Or in some cases the super is linked if there is enough frame advantage, and the more advantaged the easier it is going to be. In many games light hits are chained together to give the player a bit more lead time to realize they can now cancel or link into super (sometimes this actually means slightly less damage due to scaling).
While many moves *can* be hit confirmed usually you are going to focus on a few important ones.
And you are *not* going to make the rookie mistake of only focusing your pokes on normals which can be canceled into supers, right? There are many good high priority normals that do lots of damage just hitting once on their own.
If you're just starting out with fighting games don't focus on the idea of trying to hit-confirm a light hit into a super. Not until you get a good grasp on fundamentals.

Depends on the type of person you are. If you're more motivated by grinding for rare drops and constantly seeing your gear numbers improve, D4. If you're more motivated by seeing yourself get better, and are rewarded by that feeling of "that was a brilliant play", SF. Keep in mind that the latter is also very punishing.
not to mention watchin street fighter is a lot more "educational" and fun when you know whats going on for all levels of play.

Is there a list of basic things to focus on in a match so I can improve as a player? I got placed in iron and pretty much all my matches are just mashing and drive impact spam. I know that winning matches at this level basically means nothing but I don't have any specific goal when playing so I still just fall back to cheesing my way to a win and not improving as a player
Stop jumping all the time, focus on anti airing your opponent.
Have a bnb combo to use as a punish.
1) Block. Down that low people will almost always hang themselves by doing something massively unsafe if you just block long enough so just take it slow and block until you see someone do some big slow move that's unsafe and then hit them with something simple like a throw, a poke into a special, or a sweep. Divekicks are a big one, almost every low rank player loves to jump and divekick and then mash and you can almost always throw them after the divekick.
2) Anti-air. Find your character's anti-air normal, could be crouching heavy punch, could be standing heavy kick, it's different for each of them, and just do that when someone without a divekick jumps at you.

6 is fun as frick, but I have a few critiques. Mechanically DI is a lot less interesting than focus which was obviously the inspiration for it, it just makes it too risky to use non-cancellable normals in neutral. I will admit DR is a major improvement over FADC if nothing else but for the juggle potential it adds to normals. It's just a shame that the combo systems seems completely ironed out with no rough edges because the dev team was deathly afraid of the game having 1-frame links or some other unexpected and hard to execute thing(same as SFV really).
Noticed that one of the presets look very similar KOF's Daimon so I made him. Too bad the game doesn't have arm bandages.

if its your first fighter. Theres a lot of muscle memory to learn. If you like the look of the game keep it up. You will get it.
You don't have to do combo trials. Just read and play through the character guides and then fight people in ranked. That's the only way you'll get better. The combo trials don't teach you how to play the game.
Turn on the input history and the cancel timer bar, I forget what the actual name is but those should show you where you're fricking up your inputs/timings
You can also set it to half speed so you can watch those better and get a hang of what the correct inputs look like visually, and then switch back to full speed to get a feel for the timings.

GUILE BROS have some info. If someone is looking to drive parry your sonic blade, do the spin punch (forward+heavy punch). If it hits their drive parry, throwing out a grab is nearly guaranteed every time from my ranked experience. I've never not gotten a counter hit grab after the +3 you get for throwing out the punch, try it out, this fact literally evolved my gameplay. And in training mode, it always punish counters for some reason.
Chun mains, how do you oki with this character. I’ve only found one safe jump set up and it doesn’t even work midscreen if they back tech. Is it really as simple as drive rush overhead/low?

Thats the setup im talking about. Its gauantees you a safe jump, but only if they dont back tech or they’re at the wall.
i've had luck with 3HK crossup, it works a surprising amount of times. you can do that into 2MP and EX SBK then either L SBK or H tensho kicks.
I'd recommend watching the sako vs sonicfox ft10 for some good chun stuff. Off the top, you can do the stance launcher/lvl2 stomp stomp HP HP for a safejump in the corner or plus frames after double dash. You can also meaty light fireball and combo on hit/ + on block in corner. Otherwise, meaty grab or shimmy midscreen after light sbk confirms.
