Yeah that's not a gene. I was ass at 4 and V but pretty dominant in 3s. Thanks to the internet the standard for mid to high level play is much greater these days and once I bit the bullet mid way through V and cleaned up my execution and optimized I can literally hang with legendary players. I won't be getting any significant top 8s anytime soon or ever, but I can stop 99.99% of players on V and 6. I'm already have a more developed corner and confirm game than a lot of well known pros my age. I literally just sit in lab like 2 hours a day and play about 50 matches in customs. Haven't even touched ranked.

Marisa imo is the best newcomer in SF6 (with JP a close second) as her design is fantastic, her gameplay is fun/unique and her personality is something that's impossible to not enjoy. She's kind of like Dee Jay where you may not care much for the surface level looks, but when in motion and speaking you end up enjoying them greatly.

i kind of hate that you can cancel into drive impact during your block strings. Sometimes some characters cancel able normals really lead to surprise DI's that feel hard to look out for and lead to massive swings or outright wins in corner
I think that's going to be what DI is used for most often in higher level play, that surprise blockstring ender in the corner. I do think as people begin to react to DI more regularly and Parry is used more often the threat of it will lessen, though at the same time some characters can SHIT damage if they get that splat with resources to spare. I look at it as a riskier but more rewarding version of canceling jab into Dragon Rush in DBFZ during your pressure.
It's okay but it's not that strong. People typically look for the DI if they are in the corner. Also, people looking to escape a block string in a corner rarely push a big button that a DI is good against. They most likely try to jab, grab(tech), or jump out, which DI can lose to.
I tried them with Gief and he loses some of his best kicks, basically all of them really. I mean if you can't do 360°, fireballs or dragon punches it's a no brainer really, only way you can access these games. Don't wanna make a "MUH COMMINITY", but the more people play sf6 the better.

[M]odern is literally pure scrub shit. It's fine in the lower ranks if you're new, I don't judge you for that. But if you're playing above Gold with [M]odern, you need to stop and start playing the game without macro shortcuts for your specials and supers. Git gud.
Well the cat is out of the box. I have a hard time believing a character like Ryu can be better on M but a character like Zangief on M seems like the new meta now.
After a couple months, tier lists will have Classic & Modern for each character separate. Most characters will have Modern worse in some capacity, a handful will be about the same, and a couple will actually be better with it (probably just Gief & Luke).

I don't play SF and still won't play SF, but what are the general day one opinions compared to past games? I know SFV was a shitshow, and I feel like I recall IV hitting its stride once it got an updated release.
Very positive so far. Of course people are making direct comparisons to SFV's launch, in which case SF6 looks much better. Drive system is better received than the V-system. Graphics are better than SFV's hideous models. It's a vanilla game, so people do criticize the small roster, but that will be expanded eventually. SF6 is off to a good start
It's got a big paid reception to hype it up. The game itself has more noob/casual shit in it and is 10 times more scrubby than SF4 or 5. It will likely not last very long in its current state, to be honest.
It's not a Luke thing. None of the characters in SF6 are hard to play competently (even without modern controls) and they are all intuitive in that it's obvious what you are supposed to do with each of them (even without the in-game character guides). SF6 is Capcom's answer to Smash Bros but without the roster to not make it so repetitive and easy to tire of every match-up in the game.

80 hours in and I'm less bored and more in a rut with the characters I use atm. Probably going to switch around characters to see which one fits the feel I need atm.
60 hours in or so, I'm not bored but discouraged by these last couple of days where all I did was losing matches. SIlver 5 and I don't feel like trying much harder, gonna stop soon and move on as I usually do with fighting games
93 hours, still feel like I can push my main further in Ranked and want to learn a third character. Also want to eventually see credits on WT if only to have the levels and moves to fight people online with my custom waifu. This is the most I've been into a fighting game since Marvel 3 I think, or at least tied with a few other games that were all from the 2010s. Really hoping they nail the final roster for this game so I'm not in a situation where I prefer playing 6 but 4 & V have characters I like more.

CA and drive impact being in the game means im still pissed off when the opponent is on a pixel because if im anywhere under 75% i still run the risk of dying immediately from a whiff
New to fighting games and currently maining Marisa, keep getting paired up with rushdown opponents mainly Juris & Cammys.
So far ive had the best luck staying back a little and poking em until I get an opening to go unga bunga on em but what are some other tips for fighting rushdowns as Marisa?

use your charged and armored moves
Marisa gets fricked if she has to play neutral and the opponent is actually familiar with her, so just say frick it and go wild. At low levels just jump at them and use her superman punch to get in. If they can't anti air you it's their problem. Her kick special move is also good for gaining ground.
99% of low level players will IMMEDIATELY try to jump out of the corner once they get there so be ready for that. At some ranges I think Marisa has to jump back jab (or something, I don't play her) to anti air.
Once you have them reeling, drive rush in after a knockdown and use your command grab from the counter stance.
I use JP just to dab on the homosexuals on here, (and online in general) especially the Moderns. JP is hardly honest either and guess what? I feel no shame.
Stop trying to sound smart, NOTHING in SF6 and I mean literally not one single thing that makes a character good is locked behind a skill barrier. NOTHING.

A majority of Kens will just cycle through their Crazy Kick pressure that is full of gaps and commitment that usually gets blown up by DI unless they wait. Those gaps mean that Gief can just SPD through them even if he waits. If he's mid-range he can get through or around fireballs on a half-decent read with j.[HK] or Running Bear. Gief vs Shoto is never easy but it's always doable.
He switched back to classic though. His optimized combos do an insane amount of damage but there aren't that many people that can pull this off. Heck even Tokido sticks to 1 perfect most of the time.

They are absolutely not honest, just weak, and it comes down to their resources being integral to their success instead of being their way to push existing advantage. cr MP xx MK Jinrai has no gaps. The LK followup will counterhit anything you try to mash out except invincible reversals and he can standing LK xx HP shoryu off of that.
If you try to drive impact it he can recover and murder you so please do that if you fight me.
Other normals or light/heavy versions of the jinrai will have gaps that you might be able to jab through but you're kinda gambling unless you know everything.

giefs does the most but it cant be comboed into without launchers, ryus high blade kick makes it work tho
aside from him marisas is high damage and can be charged but cant be comboed into very effectively kinda like geifs but a little more lenient
that makes lilys the best for combos and damage >lvl 2 supers
this one has the most variety, with geifs and chun lis both being launchers
chun lis is better since you can get kimberlys EX air grab out of it and get more combo
if you dont want the combo and prefer a damage button then deejays is better but then again you have to deal with minigame
if thats still too much then marisa again has high damage
you can also go for juri here if you are using her style >lvl 3

It begs the question why they let us pick different supers and specials, which inherently unbalances the game, but then stop at permitting the unique properties of said supers. Doesn't make sense. There are fireballs and DPs that are objectively worse than others, for the Avatars there's no balance there.

Honestly, BH was a genius idea by the lead devs. I thought I would spend all my time on Fighting Ground just focused on playing matches back to back for hours on end, but this whole social angle they took with SF6 is actually really fricking fun and a great change of pace from Ranked sweatiness.
I like the synergy with World Tour too, BH alone justifies the existence of that mode, so you can keep customizing and leveling up your character to mess around with other avatars.

MK, LK, and HP are the common things she'll be poking with so if you learn how to whiff punish these it'll help a lot. Her sweep is also kinda good.
If she knocks you down and sets the bomb just use an invincible reversal on that b***h the first time. None of them are blocking that. After that do some delayed teching and watch your head because there's a lot of easy overhead setups.

If anything, I think modern controls on SF6 shows the real flaws of fighting games classic controls and how much a fraud some of the players are when they cry about losing against modern control players. Why did you lose if you're supposed to be so good and so much more experienced?

And it just so happens that this happens more often against modern users, because modern users have access to the highest damage combo every single time without execution limiting them. Therefore yes, its absolutely possible you will lose to modern players who are on paper, worse than you.

They don't have the most optimal combo, they have a pretty good combo that doesn't require execution to perform. There's no scaling penalty but to get actual optimal damage you need to do manual stuff and awkwardly access certain normals that only exist in the auto-combos in Modern.

Ultimately, execution is what allows a player to optimize their correct guesses. Combos shouldn't ToD or do close to that all the time if they're prohibitively difficult, but if you get the mixup and all you can get is the same canned combo every time there isn't much intrigue either. Building combos for different purposes (damage, meter build, meter dump, corner carry, oki), getting harder confirms down, figuring out the best combo YOU can consistently pull off from a given confirm or punish, that's what makes landing that hit rewarding. If you just want your mix & punishes to be 1-2 moves into significant damage, play SamSho (and that's not a backhanded suggestion, SamSho is awesome).

Yeah that's not a gene. I was ass at 4 and V but pretty dominant in 3s. Thanks to the internet the standard for mid to high level play is much greater these days and once I bit the bullet mid way through V and cleaned up my execution and optimized I can literally hang with legendary players. I won't be getting any significant top 8s anytime soon or ever, but I can stop 99.99% of players on V and 6. I'm already have a more developed corner and confirm game than a lot of well known pros my age. I literally just sit in lab like 2 hours a day and play about 50 matches in customs. Haven't even touched ranked.

i kind of hate that you can cancel into drive impact during your block strings. Sometimes some characters cancel able normals really lead to surprise DI's that feel hard to look out for and lead to massive swings or outright wins in corner
I think that's going to be what DI is used for most often in higher level play, that surprise blockstring ender in the corner. I do think as people begin to react to DI more regularly and Parry is used more often the threat of it will lessen, though at the same time some characters can SHIT damage if they get that splat with resources to spare. I look at it as a riskier but more rewarding version of canceling jab into Dragon Rush in DBFZ during your pressure.
It's okay but it's not that strong. People typically look for the DI if they are in the corner. Also, people looking to escape a block string in a corner rarely push a big button that a DI is good against. They most likely try to jab, grab(tech), or jump out, which DI can lose to.

Well the cat is out of the box. I have a hard time believing a character like Ryu can be better on M but a character like Zangief on M seems like the new meta now.
After a couple months, tier lists will have Classic & Modern for each character separate. Most characters will have Modern worse in some capacity, a handful will be about the same, and a couple will actually be better with it (probably just Gief & Luke).

I don't play SF and still won't play SF, but what are the general day one opinions compared to past games? I know SFV was a shitshow, and I feel like I recall IV hitting its stride once it got an updated release.
Very positive so far. Of course people are making direct comparisons to SFV's launch, in which case SF6 looks much better. Drive system is better received than the V-system. Graphics are better than SFV's hideous models. It's a vanilla game, so people do criticize the small roster, but that will be expanded eventually. SF6 is off to a good start
It's got a big paid reception to hype it up. The game itself has more noob/casual shit in it and is 10 times more scrubby than SF4 or 5. It will likely not last very long in its current state, to be honest.
It's not a Luke thing. None of the characters in SF6 are hard to play competently (even without modern controls) and they are all intuitive in that it's obvious what you are supposed to do with each of them (even without the in-game character guides). SF6 is Capcom's answer to Smash Bros but without the roster to not make it so repetitive and easy to tire of every match-up in the game.

I have about 40 hours and started to feel a bit bored around 30 so I switched characters. Don't feel bored at all now.
I'm 10 hours in and i feel like a small baby boy
80 hours in and I'm less bored and more in a rut with the characters I use atm. Probably going to switch around characters to see which one fits the feel I need atm.
60 hours in or so, I'm not bored but discouraged by these last couple of days where all I did was losing matches. SIlver 5 and I don't feel like trying much harder, gonna stop soon and move on as I usually do with fighting games
93 hours, still feel like I can push my main further in Ranked and want to learn a third character. Also want to eventually see credits on WT if only to have the levels and moves to fight people online with my custom waifu. This is the most I've been into a fighting game since Marvel 3 I think, or at least tied with a few other games that were all from the 2010s. Really hoping they nail the final roster for this game so I'm not in a situation where I prefer playing 6 but 4 & V have characters I like more.

New to fighting games and currently maining Marisa, keep getting paired up with rushdown opponents mainly Juris & Cammys.

Marisa gets fricked if she has to play neutral and the opponent is actually familiar with her, so just say frick it and go wild. At low levels just jump at them and use her superman punch to get in. If they can't anti air you it's their problem. Her kick special move is also good for gaining ground.
99% of low level players will IMMEDIATELY try to jump out of the corner once they get there so be ready for that. At some ranges I think Marisa has to jump back jab (or something, I don't play her) to anti air.
Once you have them reeling, drive rush in after a knockdown and use your command grab from the counter stance.

A majority of Kens will just cycle through their Crazy Kick pressure that is full of gaps and commitment that usually gets blown up by DI unless they wait. Those gaps mean that Gief can just SPD through them even if he waits. If he's mid-range he can get through or around fireballs on a half-decent read with j.[HK] or Running Bear. Gief vs Shoto is never easy but it's always doable.

cr MP xx MK Jinrai has no gaps. The LK followup will counterhit anything you try to mash out except invincible reversals and he can standing LK xx HP shoryu off of that.

Other normals or light/heavy versions of the jinrai will have gaps that you might be able to jab through but you're kinda gambling unless you know everything.

if kimberlys was around the same damage as everyone elses except you just get a free bonus install because you picked hers why would you ever use 90% of the casts lvl 3s?
It begs the question why they let us pick different supers and specials, which inherently unbalances the game, but then stop at permitting the unique properties of said supers. Doesn't make sense. There are fireballs and DPs that are objectively worse than others, for the Avatars there's no balance there.

Honestly, BH was a genius idea by the lead devs. I thought I would spend all my time on Fighting Ground just focused on playing matches back to back for hours on end, but this whole social angle they took with SF6 is actually really fricking fun and a great change of pace from Ranked sweatiness.
I like the synergy with World Tour too, BH alone justifies the existence of that mode, so you can keep customizing and leveling up your character to mess around with other avatars.
Still think the game needs community hubs. Like I want to go to the wnf battlehub and fight valle.

mid screen she has forward + HK aka the hop kick. The followups can be jabbed but if she stops after you block it she's at a small advantage
she's probably also buffering stuff into standing MK and standing LK. Both of these are cancellable so don't try to frick with them with DI unless she's getting really sloppy with buffering. MK, LK, and HP are the common things she'll be poking with so if you learn how to whiff punish these it'll help a lot. Her sweep is also kinda good.
If she knocks you down and sets the bomb just use an invincible reversal on that b***h the first time. None of them are blocking that. After that do some delayed teching and watch your head because there's a lot of easy overhead setups.

Blanka ball loses to jabs though, or to DI on reaction, or to people just blocking it and doing a sweep or a standing heavy or whatever unless it's H ball which puts me all the way back on the other side of the screen and they just drive rush forward and I've put myself in the corner for nothing.

Whenever Capcom gets burned and wants to go back to "playing things safe", we get a new Street Fighter title where the entire vanilla roster is just the original World Warriors. We saw this from SF3 into SF4. Now, we're seeing it from SFV into SF6. Personally, I agree with you. It's bummer, and it's even worse given that we know the Season 1 DLC roster already and they aren't in that either. It's going to be another year and a half to two years before we see an Alpha or 3S character in SF6, which is completely unacceptable.

Fricking hate how this game will let you do a DP off the most moronic shit inputs but it gets ultra anal about quarter circle timing so a one frame timing error is the difference between a super safe special and a horrendously unsafe one
If anything, I think modern controls on SF6 shows the real flaws of fighting games classic controls and how much a fraud some of the players are when they cry about losing against modern control players. Why did you lose if you're supposed to be so good and so much more experienced?

Because thats how fighting games work, you dont always win if youre the better player, a couple of stray hits can end the round. Plus you will come across alot of situations where you need to guess the mixup correctly, guess wrong a couple of times? You lose
You will only win 100% if you are SIGNIFICANTLY better than the other guy, but if youre only slightly better than the other guy you can definitely still lose.
And it just so happens that this happens more often against modern users, because modern users have access to the highest damage combo every single time without execution limiting them. Therefore yes, its absolutely possible you will lose to modern players who are on paper, worse than you.

They don't have the most optimal combo, they have a pretty good combo that doesn't require execution to perform. There's no scaling penalty but to get actual optimal damage you need to do manual stuff and awkwardly access certain normals that only exist in the auto-combos in Modern.
Ultimately, execution is what allows a player to optimize their correct guesses. Combos shouldn't ToD or do close to that all the time if they're prohibitively difficult, but if you get the mixup and all you can get is the same canned combo every time there isn't much intrigue either. Building combos for different purposes (damage, meter build, meter dump, corner carry, oki), getting harder confirms down, figuring out the best combo YOU can consistently pull off from a given confirm or punish, that's what makes landing that hit rewarding. If you just want your mix & punishes to be 1-2 moves into significant damage, play SamSho (and that's not a backhanded suggestion, SamSho is awesome).
