He's not top tier in 6, he happens to be a good matchup against Juri who IS top tier because Ball is an answer to her default neutral tool. There's a pretty optimal way to play neutral safely with some characters. Juri setting up fireball to DR is what you should autopilot if you're not looking for something in neutral.

SFxT v2013 is a pretty solid game outside of Gems & 30/60/90 (but those things are SO FRICKING STUPID) that has a good bit of soul and it sucks that it'll likely never get relisted on Steam. Fricking GFWL.
I think we'll see like half of those eventually, maybe a little more, but the only ones I'd say are certain are Cody, Sagat & Sakura. For me, I want Gill, Viper, G/Q, Hakan, Poison, more Final Fight/Rival Schools in general, a Slam Masters character, and maybe an SFEX character (but it would be Skullomania for sure if so).

I'm sure many people do. I do for sure. Why is there this idea that no one cares about story in fighting games? For me, characters are easier to invest in and make me like playing them more if I know who they are, where they come from, and what is going on with them.
I make my judgement based on how that character looks and sounds, even if I'm playing against him/her. Lore is a tertiary thing for me, almost like like a porno. I'll continue to say this, Bison is just way too iconic in this series.

I am the same but I still like it and it makes me care about the characters I am playing. I have been playing since SF2 on Super Nintendo when there was almost no story, but I have liked seeing this series go from basically fighting for...reasons to the characters getting character arcs that have progressed over time, some of them paying off like Chun Li and Ryu.

I'm speculating based on one offhand mention by Juri, but I think that person is "Helen" aka Kolin helping the player character along. Juri mentions that Helen was also up to something in Nayshall. I imagine there could be a clash of factions in future story beats, JP's Shadaloo Remnants (and presumably the one behind SiRN's drone system), Ed's underground Neo-Shadaloo, and the Illuminati.

Start from down back. You can just get used to just doing the vertical and then the horizontal but if it helps you can combine the vertical and the first horizontal by doing a diagonal. Like down back > up forward > back > forward

I think so, but he's got like 400 matches logged. Even if he placed diamond 1, he should have deranked with a 44% win rate.

That's possible. Climbed from low ranks where he had a terrible winrate, got better as he climbed but the total number of matches is so high that it'll be a long time before it passes 50%. Something like that.
Every loss is -40 points, every win is 50~60 points. If you just keep at it you keep climbing even if your win rate is in the 40s
Sometimes I forget wins can reward more than 50 points if they're higher rank. Do you really not lose more points if you lose to someone loser rank? I don't pay a lot of attention to point gain/loss, I just mash rematch.
Losses are -40 every time no matter what, unless you were going to derank in which case it'll be cut down so that you're at the minimum point value for the level you're at. This plus ranking bonus and winrate bonus below Plat and you can get up there if you have a 50% winrate with enough time, even less than 50% depending on who you beat. The Cammy might've just also lost a lot early on.
I don't pay much attention to LP loss either but I personally have never noticed a loss resulting in anything but -40. Could be mistaken.
On a similar note, I ran into a Ken at Diamond 1 who had a 45% winrate over 1500 games and he was complete ass. Last I saw him he

Ed almost feels like a bad prototype version of Luke.
Intended to have easy operation without any motion inputs, but I found it more troublesome having sequential double inputs, mash-punch inputs for Flicker Jab and hold-release inputs.
He would have been better with only quarter circles.

If you get the timing right you can just drive impact/reversal through the lash. Blocking it high also gives him less frame advantage if you're confident enough to block high
Jinrai is just a guessing game. No easy answer here, but parry/drive counter is always a decent option if they're just spamming it

Manon's medal system is everything she has going around. Her normals and specials are trash and she doesn't have an invincible reversal unless you want to spend bars.
You really don't need to know Chun-li's new move set that well to reach gold. I was a Gold Chun in SFV and got placed Silver 2 in SF6. I have immediately fought my way into Gold in a few hours just anti-airing, poking, throwing and doing VERY basic stance shit.
Protip: if you are finding stance difficult go into the settings and turn negative edge ON. It's off by default. Suddenly you will find her stance stuff way smoother. Stop throwing out s.HP just whenever or you are getting drive impacted, make use of her forward/backwards medium punch, it can be cancelled into drive impact if someone does theirs and you can press it twice in people's faces for free, first forwards and then move to backwards which will hold you in place AND let you charge a fireball instantly. "Punch, punch, fireball." Don't just give up on her already like that.
I didn't buy it but I'm at Lv.21. If I get closer to the higher FC amounts I might drop the money. Not for more passes, but content I care about later.
Just practice your timing in practice mode. It will eventually become instinct. Also focus on doing regular attacks while consciously holding the back button so you can kikoken when you need to.

Kikoken takes 50f to charge, SBK only takes 30.

It's your turn if Ken uses the quicker Light/Medium/OD Dragonlash.

Jinrai isn't real. Almost every kick has a large enough gap between them on block.
If you have meter and the Ken is always going for the followup kicks, just blow him up with an invincible special, super or drive impact for daring to kick you twice in a row.
And just like Dragonlash, his Light/Medium Jinrai starts up fast but is far more negative to the point you can jab him before he can block, let alone before his next kick is out.
And with this I will hit the lab. I have to say that spotting the differences between buttons used is still not something I can do but I hope practicing it helps

DNF is extremely similar to what 8ing were making in the mid-late 00s but with rollback. Then they did TvC & Marvel 3 which had a little more balancing because of Capcom overseeing before doing nothing but shovelware and Kamen Rider arena fighters for a decade. DNF has a lot of fricked up shit but it's the fun kind of fricked up shit, especially after the patch that was nothing but a list of 100 buffs spread across the cast.
Shame Nexon literally doesn't market it and has taken a year to put out ONE DLC character (8ing is the studio that had 10 characters for Marvel 3 made in under a year and had more in the pipeline if the license didn't run out).

I love fricked up shit in fighting games but the game having nothing interesting in movement or defence killed it for me. When it takes a paragraph to explain some offence shit there should be a paragraph of defence options to fight it with, not just "everything but block loses, and block also loses if you're under 100mp"
It has a cool foundation, a fighting game based around MP management is a neat idea and SF6 even kinda stole it with the drive gauge starting full, but it needs a significant overhaul, add 3 or 4 whole new mechanics for defence and neutral that don't buff offence much, and rework red health/conversion and it would be great.

DNF has several types of infinite protection, but the combos are ridiculous because it's mostly looping the same move or two in succession and then activating the super just before the tech scaling or gravity gets too steep.
Infinite had one on release, a really dumb one too. Thing is with modern games they do get patched out with enough time. Come to think of it that shitty DFO fighting game had one, though a very impractical one as well.

I just lost a little over a third of my health in 5 hits with her unbuffed doing just the OD versions of Tomahawk Buster and Condor Dive after they landed a D+HP. Ran it in training and was shocked how easy it was to replicate. So little effort for so much damage.
No her conversions are trash. She has to commit to heavy attacks in order to do that damage and other characters can do much more with it. She only works by playing super lame outside of her wind stock gimmick and I hate fighting her because of her normals.
Lily is simultaneously really braindead to win with, but also complete ass at high levels because she's so linear and easy to play around once you lab her. Nowhere near as bad as tier lists suggest, no char in this game is legit terrible or anything.

Ghost grab is Back Special.
Stribog is neutral Special. The one "loss" is he only has Heavy and OD on hand, but Light Stribog is baked into Assist Combo 1.
Counter is Forward Special.
He gets Medium Spike on down special, a redundancy that allows him to also access L+H OD Spikes with just the Down+A+SP input.

There's a pretty optimal way to play neutral safely with some characters. Juri setting up fireball to DR is what you should autopilot if you're not looking for something in neutral.

That's possible. Climbed from low ranks where he had a terrible winrate, got better as he climbed but the total number of matches is so high that it'll be a long time before it passes 50%. Something like that.
Sometimes I forget wins can reward more than 50 points if they're higher rank. Do you really not lose more points if you lose to someone loser rank? I don't pay a lot of attention to point gain/loss, I just mash rematch.
Losses are -40 every time no matter what, unless you were going to derank in which case it'll be cut down so that you're at the minimum point value for the level you're at. This plus ranking bonus and winrate bonus below Plat and you can get up there if you have a 50% winrate with enough time, even less than 50% depending on who you beat. The Cammy might've just also lost a lot early on.
Interesting. I really should shake off my ranked nerves, I have a 56% winrate in gold and I hate queuing up for fear of plateauing and getting hardstuck. Sounds practically impossible as long as you just play.

Every loss is -40 points, every win is 50~60 points. If you just keep at it you keep climbing even if your win rate is in the 40s

I expect Ed will just be a hybrid of different motions. Quarter Circles (mostly for Flicker), Charge, Triple Punch for Net. Modern replaces what Ed was doing in V.

Manon's medal system is everything she has going around. Her normals and specials are trash and she doesn't have an invincible reversal unless you want to spend bars.
You really don't need to know Chun-li's new move set that well to reach gold. I was a Gold Chun in SFV and got placed Silver 2 in SF6. I have immediately fought my way into Gold in a few hours just anti-airing, poking, throwing and doing VERY basic stance shit.
Protip: if you are finding stance difficult go into the settings and turn negative edge ON. It's off by default. Suddenly you will find her stance stuff way smoother. Stop throwing out s.HP just whenever or you are getting drive impacted, make use of her forward/backwards medium punch, it can be cancelled into drive impact if someone does theirs and you can press it twice in people's faces for free, first forwards and then move to backwards which will hold you in place AND let you charge a fireball instantly. "Punch, punch, fireball." Don't just give up on her already like that.

it should take only a couple minutes in training mode to see how best to counter those two moves. it's actually good practice in this case since dragonlash + jinrai in particular test some very basic skills that apply to countering many common situations and gimmicks.
It's your turn if Ken uses the quicker Light/Medium/OD Dragonlash.
If it's the slow Heavy one, you have more than enough time to anti-air him on reaction or armor through it with Impact early enough before he can recover.
If not, you lost your chance.
Jinrai isn't real. Almost every kick has a large enough gap between them on block.
If you have meter and the Ken is always going for the followup kicks, just blow him up with an invincible special, super or drive impact for daring to kick you twice in a row.
And just like Dragonlash, his Light/Medium Jinrai starts up fast but is far more negative to the point you can jab him before he can block, let alone before his next kick is out.
And with this I will hit the lab. I have to say that spotting the differences between buttons used is still not something I can do but I hope practicing it helps

What modern game has infinites? The only thing even close to this that I can think of in SF6 is Guile boom loops and yeah: those are sportsmanlike because it's just an optimal combo, nothing broken.

DNF is extremely similar to what 8ing were making in the mid-late 00s but with rollback. Then they did TvC & Marvel 3 which had a little more balancing because of Capcom overseeing before doing nothing but shovelware and Kamen Rider arena fighters for a decade. DNF has a lot of fricked up shit but it's the fun kind of fricked up shit, especially after the patch that was nothing but a list of 100 buffs spread across the cast.
Shame Nexon literally doesn't market it and has taken a year to put out ONE DLC character (8ing is the studio that had 10 characters for Marvel 3 made in under a year and had more in the pipeline if the license didn't run out).
At least its nice to know game won't be abandoned as long as the DFO homies continue to pay them to develop characters

I love fricked up shit in fighting games but the game having nothing interesting in movement or defence killed it for me. When it takes a paragraph to explain some offence shit there should be a paragraph of defence options to fight it with, not just "everything but block loses, and block also loses if you're under 100mp"
It has a cool foundation, a fighting game based around MP management is a neat idea and SF6 even kinda stole it with the drive gauge starting full, but it needs a significant overhaul, add 3 or 4 whole new mechanics for defence and neutral that don't buff offence much, and rework red health/conversion and it would be great.
I agree. If they could drop the fricking patch already we'd have the new defensive mechanics to help negate chip/guard damage and help set up punishes.
DNF has several types of infinite protection, but the combos are ridiculous because it's mostly looping the same move or two in succession and then activating the super just before the tech scaling or gravity gets too steep.
Infinite had one on release, a really dumb one too. Thing is with modern games they do get patched out with enough time. Come to think of it that shitty DFO fighting game had one, though a very impractical one as well.

I just lost a little over a third of my health in 5 hits with her unbuffed doing just the OD versions of Tomahawk Buster and Condor Dive after they landed a D+HP. Ran it in training and was shocked how easy it was to replicate. So little effort for so much damage.
No her conversions are trash. She has to commit to heavy attacks in order to do that damage and other characters can do much more with it. She only works by playing super lame outside of her wind stock gimmick and I hate fighting her because of her normals.
Lily is simultaneously really braindead to win with, but also complete ass at high levels because she's so linear and easy to play around once you lab her. Nowhere near as bad as tier lists suggest, no char in this game is legit terrible or anything.

Ghost grab is Back Special.
Stribog is neutral Special. The one "loss" is he only has Heavy and OD on hand, but Light Stribog is baked into Assist Combo 1.
Counter is Forward Special.
He gets Medium Spike on down special, a redundancy that allows him to also access L+H OD Spikes with just the Down+A+SP input.
