The plot is low stakes so yeah the important characters mostly stand around. We're not even talking about plot, we're talking about characterization. There's no reason to believe the character interactions aren't canon, in that they accurately portray the characters' personalities

All these troony defenders are just in love with a man. Marisa is a troony. When I lose to it I get more irritated that the ugly troony character beat me. Her feet are as big if not bigger than all the male characters. The trade off is that Capcom lets you make hilariously discriminating abominations in the character creator.

They went way too far with her actual design in game. The way she looks in this fan art would have been better. Real thing looks like a troony competing in the IBFF super roid league of bodybuilding. Based and somewhat same; I'm pretty sure my winrates online in 3S & 4 were barely above 50% and I was actively bad at V but with 6 I feel like I'm getting there. I got to Plat 1 on like Day 8 and I've been there since barring one demotion to Gold 5, but given I was placed in Iron 3 at launch I feel accomplished. 14075LP currently, two good sets and I'm in the first rank that definitively isn't a fluke.

Notably longer startup on H (9 more frames), and H has 5 hits instead of 4. I don't even play Chun or know the matchup that well, but looking it up quickly I can see those differences. Even then, they're both minus. Even if you find it impossible to tell the difference you can go for a 4f check after and you either get a bit of pressure or a Punish Counter jab.

What's a good main for me? I can do basic combos no problem but as soon as you want me to introduce crouch attacks or the dreaded DU charge special I sperg out.
Honda is a charge char so he might not be a great fit. Marisa is worth considering. She has a lot of armored moves, and her combos are short and hit hard. If you use modern controls especially, she's absolutely braindead. You can block a wakeup DP and make your opponent eat like 50% damage with a literal autocombo.
Honda. You can climb to Diamond with Honda with how braindead he is. Super strong buttons, huge damage, easy super confirms now that Hands is an input snd no longer requires pianoing.

I'd like it if the drink charge activated earlier in the animation. Right now it doesn't activate until the very end of the animation, so you get ruined by even a basic Hadouken.

I've thought about it and I THINK the idea is so that hitting him out of it won't be a Punish Counter, but it makes fireballs a big problem when trying to drink in neutral. Right now it's like 48f startup 2f recovery, I would gladly make that 40/10.
I like seeing Ken for the first couple of weeks because I already know exactly what that person will be doing for the entire fight

Serenity Stream is the new keystone to everything Chun-Li does now.
She can cancel into Serenity from -every- normal, and she gets extra frame advantage if doing so off of most heavy normals and command normals, and it gives charge to both kiko/birb, and it ducks under some projectiles/attacks that would still hit crouchers.

6mk is a great button but super slow and vulnerable to DI or getting jabbed at close range
EX fireballs don't leave him close enough to continue pressure outside of the corner

Corner carry. Air OD tatsu can be used for corner escape or to keep your opponent jailed in the corner (if you see them try to jump out, forward jump into medium punch into air OD tatsu to send them right back and get oki).

For sure. Modern is clearly easy mode for the most part. Yeah it sucks that lose some key moves but one button specials is fricking obscene.
I can tell I'm a skill gate as actually good classic players can pretty easily whoop my ass where as classic players who know one combo or mode of attack get shattered against my Marissa.
Modern wouldnt be that difficult for me to deal with if DI wasnt in the game but seeing as it is, if any normal player who came from V tries to poke they just eat an entire combo into super from getting DI's. few more of those and its round over.
i fought a few modern players in Plat just now and two of them, a Manon and Ken teabagged. not sure whats up with that but its getting to be slightly more than a joke how theyre allowed to climb ranked with factually easier inputs against classic players. of course theres "git gud" but Ken being plus on dragonlash and manon having shenanigans does not make it easier to cope with playing a control scheme with pro player execution built in as Marisa.

As a modern player, the main weakness is our lack of options. The damage debuff is negligible when you consider how easy combos are to pull of as well as Modern auto combos.

Jamie has a lot of tricks, but is unfortunately low tier because of how dependent he is on drinks, and how poorly he matches up to the high tier characters.
Jamie seems low tier at first glance but at three drinks he has arguably the strongest pressure in the entire cast. His command grab can lead into 60%+ combos with CA and easily steal rounds and also has insane oki. There is plenty of tech out there now to get drinks super easily too. Perfect parry into HK PC gives you two drinks, sneaky neutral drinks etc. Think he is one of the characters that will just get stronger and stronger the longer the game is out.

Having issues with stopping people from jumping and confirming my lights into knockdowns. And alot of other stuff ofcourse but that certainly was an issue here.
I just hope season 2 has more than 4 characters as DLC. I have a sneaky suspicion that the current season 1 chars were meant to be in the base roster but some corpo suit told them to make them DLC instead.

That's just the Gief life. I've started to try and incorporate drive rush combos from his standing light punch. It's really his go-to button for this, it seems to have a longer cancel timing than his other lights and you can go into crouching light punch -> devil stab after the rush.

my only issue is that for some reason I simply cannot comprehend how to fight against honda. no other character gives me this much problem. every time I get matched against a honda I automatically accept it that I'll lose.

hooligan is unusable, she has no overhead, her divekick has such a shitty hurtbox it loses to random crouching normals while also being negative 90% of the time it hits while not even being a high, she does low damage, her only + on block normal outside of drive rush is an uncancelable crouch fierce, her drive rush sucks and doesn't go far, sweep is unsafe even at max range, cannon spike loses to jump normals or just randomly whiffs because of its angle, back mp literally will phase through someone's body jumping over you and not hit them, her best footsie buttons are uncancelable DI bait, she has no projectile and gets fricking raped by honda and blanka, her super 2 only exists to waste your meter and whiff on the opponent when it somehow comes out while you were trying to do reversal level 1 instead, it just fricking goes on and on

This is a pointless way to measure whether a character is good or honest whatever. You can make a list of strengths that a character has and say they're broken, and you still won't be right. I could list off Lily's strengths and ignore all of her weaknesses and make her sound like she's broken, doesn't make me right.
If a bad Cammy divekicks, she'll have bad spacing and get bodied because its hurtbox is huge. A bad Cammy doesn't know frame data, so they can't employ her, like, two frame traps. A bad Cammy doesn't have the execution or reactions to execute her level 3 on reaction to a projectile/DR/whatever. If Cammys are spacing their divekicks so they're always 0, if they're level 3ing you when you throw a fireball, if they're frametrapping you and reading your wakeup option consistently, they're outplaying you. The character isn't winning, they are.

Heavy spin knuckle is absolutely powerful. Half screen, fast startup, projectile invuln, plus on block, combos on hit, allows for overwhelmingly potent pressure vs burnout. It's not broken, because you can play around it like Caba did by reading/baiting the spin knuckle and parrying/jabbing it, but it's a powerful option.
Also it's not like Caba locked it out, Punk used it to open him up plenty of times, and you'll notice he kept using it even though Caba was excellently playing around it. Even when the opponent respects it and tries to counter it, it's still too strong to just abandon. Compare that to Hooligan, a legit garbage tool, which you have no reason to keep using the moment your opponent starts jabbing you out of it.

Throw out her overhead or low in neutral and hope it knocks down, DI and hope it hits so you can command grab, spam jHK constantly. Luke. He's genuinely the most fun "basic" character they've made.
Luke, Ken, Juri, DJ. Basically any char that you see at tournament level honestly, they all have good tools for bodying bad players, but they clearly aren't scrub killers if they're being used at majors.
JP is a scrub killer who is also just a genuinely good character.
He can zone out pretty easily, and if good players start to deal with the basic stuff appropriately, he can start mixing things up to bait them into doing stuff that leaves him in an advantageous position (EG: baiting them into jumping over feint fireballs).

Honda is a charge char so he might not be a great fit. Marisa is worth considering. She has a lot of armored moves, and her combos are short and hit hard. If you use modern controls especially, she's absolutely braindead. You can block a wakeup DP and make your opponent eat like 50% damage with a literal autocombo.
Good ol crouching medium kick/punch into fireball motion, nothing beats that.

DoA actually has excellent gameplay and is incredibly slept on in that regard. I personally like the gameplay in DoA more than Tekken for 3D fighters but I prefer more of the Tekken roster over DoA's

I'd like it if the drink charge activated earlier in the animation. Right now it doesn't activate until the very end of the animation, so you get ruined by even a basic Hadouken.

She can cancel into Serenity from -every- normal, and she gets extra frame advantage if doing so off of most heavy normals and command normals, and it gives charge to both kiko/birb, and it ducks under some projectiles/attacks that would still hit crouchers.

deejay is a very good character but he isn't a brainless pressure machine like the rest of top tier besides guile. he has a pretty honest gameplan it's just he has great buttons and damage to go with it
imo if his damage wasn't as high as it is he'd easily be put in mid to high mid tier
dee jay is arguably the best brainless pressure machine in the whole cast, with 6MK and EX fireballs both being plus
6mk is a great button but super slow and vulnerable to DI or getting jabbed at close range
EX fireballs don't leave him close enough to continue pressure outside of the corner
and he doesn't have a free neutral skip unlike everyone else outside of DR which he has no high/low mixup out of unlike everyone else's
knee shot is the best jump-in in the whole game and it's not even close

also if you react to 6MK with DI in 15 frames (generous) then dee jay recovers in time to re-DI
if you're getting rushed down by dee jay that's a skill issue

i fought a few modern players in Plat just now and two of them, a Manon and Ken teabagged. not sure whats up with that but its getting to be slightly more than a joke how theyre allowed to climb ranked with factually easier inputs against classic players. of course theres "git gud" but Ken being plus on dragonlash and manon having shenanigans does not make it easier to cope with playing a control scheme with pro player execution built in as Marisa.

As a modern player, the main weakness is our lack of options. The damage debuff is negligible when you consider how easy combos are to pull of as well as Modern auto combos.

Jamie has a lot of tricks, but is unfortunately low tier because of how dependent he is on drinks, and how poorly he matches up to the high tier characters.
Jamie seems low tier at first glance but at three drinks he has arguably the strongest pressure in the entire cast. His command grab can lead into 60%+ combos with CA and easily steal rounds and also has insane oki. There is plenty of tech out there now to get drinks super easily too. Perfect parry into HK PC gives you two drinks, sneaky neutral drinks etc. Think he is one of the characters that will just get stronger and stronger the longer the game is out.

That's just the Gief life. I've started to try and incorporate drive rush combos from his standing light punch. It's really his go-to button for this, it seems to have a longer cancel timing than his other lights and you can go into crouching light punch -> devil stab after the rush.

They added new ultras to 4 and new v triggers/skills to 5 so I expect some kind of expansion to existing characters but I don't know how they'll handle it this time around
This is a pointless way to measure whether a character is good or honest whatever. You can make a list of strengths that a character has and say they're broken, and you still won't be right. I could list off Lily's strengths and ignore all of her weaknesses and make her sound like she's broken, doesn't make me right.
If a bad Cammy divekicks, she'll have bad spacing and get bodied because its hurtbox is huge. A bad Cammy doesn't know frame data, so they can't employ her, like, two frame traps. A bad Cammy doesn't have the execution or reactions to execute her level 3 on reaction to a projectile/DR/whatever. If Cammys are spacing their divekicks so they're always 0, if they're level 3ing you when you throw a fireball, if they're frametrapping you and reading your wakeup option consistently, they're outplaying you. The character isn't winning, they are.
Cammy also has a lot of safe bullshit on knockdown. She gets oki every time she sneezes.

Heavy spin knuckle is absolutely powerful. Half screen, fast startup, projectile invuln, plus on block, combos on hit, allows for overwhelmingly potent pressure vs burnout. It's not broken, because you can play around it like Caba did by reading/baiting the spin knuckle and parrying/jabbing it, but it's a powerful option.
Also it's not like Caba locked it out, Punk used it to open him up plenty of times, and you'll notice he kept using it even though Caba was excellently playing around it. Even when the opponent respects it and tries to counter it, it's still too strong to just abandon. Compare that to Hooligan, a legit garbage tool, which you have no reason to keep using the moment your opponent starts jabbing you out of it.

Manons are some of the shittiest players I went up against in gold, honestly. They seemed like they were playing a single player game. Throw out her overhead or low in neutral and hope it knocks down, DI and hope it hits so you can command grab, spam jHK constantly. Luke. He's genuinely the most fun "basic" character they've made.
Luke, Ken, Juri, DJ. Basically any char that you see at tournament level honestly, they all have good tools for bodying bad players, but they clearly aren't scrub killers if they're being used at majors.
JP is a scrub killer who is also just a genuinely good character.
He can zone out pretty easily, and if good players start to deal with the basic stuff appropriately, he can start mixing things up to bait them into doing stuff that leaves him in an advantageous position (EG: baiting them into jumping over feint fireballs).
