Koji's Hawk is incompatible with Lily. Without Wind all of her Spires are -8 on block, a ton of Koji's Hawk pressure came from spacing out Light Spire to bully his way towards you over time, and then get some kind of oki off of Typhoon after he made you block. Lily needs to constantly take a moment (or a risk or a hitconfirm) to go into Wind so her pressure/mix becomes real, and even then Drive Reversal just tells her to frick off as hard as her own command grab tells her to frick off to the literal opposite end of the screen to build wind. Despite all the similar tools to Hawk she's more like Super 4 Hakan, starved for her resource and constantly needing to give up offense to get it up from round start.

I feel incredibly spoiled with how good this game is and how good Tekken 8 looks like it's going to be. They're my respective favorite series of 2D and 3D fighting games.

Each character has 2 missions, the second one tends to hand out an item to give towards someone else for 40 bond. That means you gotta get almost every style up to like ~lv15 or so and do both sub missions to get all of them (except for Ryu's, who's is given by Retsu's subquest, and JP doesn't give out one, instead giving you music.)

World Tour mode is actually a pretty good tutorial if you want something that plays like a game but the actual tutorial and character guides are good as well
df HP and stance HP are both overheads, and stance HP is special cancellable on top of that and leads into a fat combo, and of course you can just throw them if they keep blocking.
If you get a knockdown with SBK you can drive rush and immediately df HP for an extremely meaty overhead you can combo off of

He's really fun in this game. I can't really give you much advice that isn't already in the character guide since I'm just a Silver player, but I will at least encourage you to play him. He has great normals, even his non-stretchy ones. He can throw people while crouching, too.
You might want to set your macro buttons to LP+MP+HP and LK+MK+HK to make teleporting easier. He doesn't seem like a character that would benefit from using Modern controls considering teleport no longer requires you to DP, and his special moves all you half-circle motions.
Eat food that gives you a temporary XP/style XP buff before big fights
Fight people around your level or higher, also defeating anyone who uses another character's style will gain style XP for that style as well as the one you're using

You can pick either control setting in ranked/tourneys matches and yes, it displays it. Most people look down on it but there are some advantages for certain characters to use it (one button grabs for grapplers, easy DPs/supers, etc.)

Some have been talking about Modern controls as being the equivalent of some having an aimbot; it allows you to pull off special moves with a SSBU style "Just hold right and push a single button" manner, and also auto selects the preferable moves for you in terms of combos since you have less buttons et. If this is the case, then I can see why some are upset if you can climb ranked mode like that etc
I wouldn't equate it to an aimbot, but its just a few select characters get tools that are easier to use and react with. You still get a 20% overall damage reduction and have less moves to work with.
I can't do gief's level 2 super from dfMP and cr.MP consistently. I found that buffering the first qcf works well but I just can't do it fast enough when doing combos

Without Denjin, he's just normal ass Ryu. He needs full screen or a hard knockdown to safely install.
Rest of the cast have 2/3rd screen length lunging moves for their neutral, Ryu has to do the old fashioned walkup scuff your shoes (or Drive Rush knuckle sandwich).
With Denjin charged, he's Ryu who stops using fireballs for neutral control so he can use Denjin Hashogeki in a combo.
It helps in fireball wars since it gets an extra hit, letting it beat out single-hit projectiles and even a few OD projectiles, but normal Denjin will still lose to OD Air Slasher, and even OD Denjin Hadouken will still lose to OD Perfect Sonic Cross.
At most, OD Denjin Hadouken at point blank is an alternative way to be plus than Hashogeki, might catch people off guard thinking it's their turn.

Without Wind all of her Spires are -8 on block, a ton of Koji's Hawk pressure came from spacing out Light Spire to bully his way towards you over time, and then get some kind of oki off of Typhoon after he made you block. Lily needs to constantly take a moment (or a risk or a hitconfirm) to go into Wind so her pressure/mix becomes real, and even then Drive Reversal just tells her to frick off as hard as her own command grab tells her to frick off to the literal opposite end of the screen to build wind. That means you gotta get almost every style up to like ~lv15 or so and do both sub missions to get all of them (except for Ryu's, who's is given by Retsu's subquest, and JP doesn't give out one, instead giving you music.)

df HP and stance HP are both overheads, and stance HP is special cancellable on top of that and leads into a fat combo, and of course you can just throw them if they keep blocking.
If you get a knockdown with SBK you can drive rush and immediately df HP for an extremely meaty overhead you can combo off of

He's really fun in this game. I can't really give you much advice that isn't already in the character guide since I'm just a Silver player, but I will at least encourage you to play him. He has great normals, even his non-stretchy ones. He can throw people while crouching, too.
You might want to set your macro buttons to LP+MP+HP and LK+MK+HK to make teleporting easier. He doesn't seem like a character that would benefit from using Modern controls considering teleport no longer requires you to DP, and his special moves all you half-circle motions.

Honda needs buffs. His neutral is weak. St.MP should be 8 frame startup, and cr.MP should be 6 frames. Light hands should be -1 at worst, and medium/heavy hands should be -3. EX Hands should be +2. He should also be allowed to cancel st.HP into sumo dash up punches without needing to Drive Rush first.

Yes you do need to play WT to unlock moves and clothes and stuff.

You can pick either control setting in ranked/tourneys matches and yes, it displays it. Most people look down on it but there are some advantages for certain characters to use it (one button grabs for grapplers, easy DPs/supers, etc.)

Some have been talking about Modern controls as being the equivalent of some having an aimbot; it allows you to pull off special moves with a SSBU style "Just hold right and push a single button" manner, and also auto selects the preferable moves for you in terms of combos since you have less buttons et. If this is the case, then I can see why some are upset if you can climb ranked mode like that etc
I wouldn't equate it to an aimbot, but its just a few select characters get tools that are easier to use and react with. You still get a 20% overall damage reduction and have less moves to work with.

Without Denjin, he's just normal ass Ryu. He needs full screen or a hard knockdown to safely install.
Rest of the cast have 2/3rd screen length lunging moves for their neutral, Ryu has to do the old fashioned walkup scuff your shoes (or Drive Rush knuckle sandwich).
With Denjin charged, he's Ryu who stops using fireballs for neutral control so he can use Denjin Hashogeki in a combo.
Is there any reason at all to use denjin hado?
It helps in fireball wars since it gets an extra hit, letting it beat out single-hit projectiles and even a few OD projectiles, but normal Denjin will still lose to OD Air Slasher, and even OD Denjin Hadouken will still lose to OD Perfect Sonic Cross.
At most, OD Denjin Hadouken at point blank is an alternative way to be plus than Hashogeki, might catch people off guard thinking it's their turn.

Raw jump-ins in SF games were always a huge gamble and a last-resort option.
Your opponent could literally be a magician reading your inputs from the future and it would still make getting anti-aired on jump-ins a (You) problem.
Getting anti-aired is the status quo. Stop jumping if you don't know when to jump.
