If you're Iron and in need of tips then that means you have absolutely 0 fundamentals and specific character tips should be the last of your concerns
Just focus on the most basic of basics like getting your execution consistent, learn your combos, learn to anti air (you don't need to be consistent yet just try to do it), learn to react to DI (same as above consistency comes later)
Think about the buttons you're pressing and why you're pressing them. Every button should have a reason behind it not just to press something for the sake of pressing something

im not stuck in gold, Ive had the game for like 3 days and can only play 2 hours at a time and realize I should have picked Veteran because I got placed in gold for getting like 7/10 and picking the one below Veteran.

Platinum is the new Silver and Diamond is the new Gold because they just gave that shit away in placement matches to make people feel like they're accomplishing more than they really are. Iron, Bronze, Silver, and Gold are fricking filler tiers now that only exist to inflate the egos of Plat and Dime players so they'll stay subbed to the Battle Pass.
Ranks in this game are a fricking mess. In upper gold you don't know if you'll get someone competent or a complete shitter that got lucky with a win streak. People complained about 90% of the playerbase being below Silver in SFV but at least you were likely to get a match against an equal opponent. Win streaks should be capped at giving 200 points max, and even that is too much.
The game is not even a month old, ranks need time to mature and stabilize. Also, that's the downside of character based rankings, you'll always risk getting some Diamond trying a new character and stomping morons like
You can't winstreak into plat 4 though, winstreaks die as soon as you hit plat 1. At that point you get slightly more points for winning than losing, and I don't think DSP has played enough to climb to plat for with a 50/50 winrate, so he probably has a positive one. DSP isn't an awful player, just a salty b***h who's incapable of adapting. He's definitely better than the normalgays playing SF for the first time (which is like half of this game's playerbase right now).
Well of course you can't winsteak into plat 4, but those that do end up in Plat 1 and 2 make for fine fodder. You still net gain when you win a match then lose the next match. It's an actual grind vs an actual test of skill. I'm interested where the hard cutoff point is.
I'm almost in Plat 4 with Modern Ken and I'm not even playing well, I'm playing like a spastic that spams Dragonlash, Hadoken, autocombos and mashes EX Shoryu out of everything. It's a mess. It feels like Diamond is where the ranks actually start to get serious.

Just hit Platinum 2. It feels like there's an immense amount of nonsensical shit I see for the first time in each match from characters I don't play against constantly.
Plat 1 - 2 took me a week. It very much feels like a scrub place considering the bloated ranked system. It’s my first SF and reaching Plat in under 30 hours feels pretty moronic, considering there are only 2 ranks above it. But yeah, opponents feel either extremely bad trying to hold onto their rank or extremely good grinding their way up. See ya at Plat 3 anon.

Any spicy tech to share? Got kicked outta Diamond with Gief and Ive been tumbling down to Plat 3 where Im kinda getting my footing again. Learned how to poke-> cancel into grab to deal with the DI spam.
However I still have issues getting close enough to apply Headbutt, Hellstab and gief's ticks & traps. Im being solely being kept afloat by doing walkup SPD in neutral, catching jumps with TK Borsch Dynamite and solid poking.
charged j.dropkick on CH will get you a fullscreen wallbounce you can OD Borscht into, if that isnt the definition of a neutral jump punish i dont know what is.
also try holding parry after anything unsafe, best case scenario is they try to jab you and you can SPD them for pressing too many buttons but you can just as easily get grabbed
I prefer hellstab into lariat after CH charged j.HK cause you dont reset fullscreen after landing it. charged j.HK is unsafe as absolute shit and I have no idea why no one punishes it. I even have to throw it out as an absolute hail mary coin flip as its too slow to actually punish someone on reaction with.
Regarding parry into SPD when tanking jabs. SPD has a 5f startup so unless I do a perfect parry it feels like I cant grab em. Would a normal throw work? I know parry into 2LK->5LP/5LK allows you to set up a SPD/Siberian express tickthrow, but my execution is so shit I drop that one often.

its less that the SPD is safe enough to do and more that youre gambling theyll try and commit to pressure, like you said, unless its a perfect parry they can basically frick off and do something else while youre sat there or worse yet, continue to press buttons. normal throws seem to work well but at that point if i was going to just throw parrying was a waste.

They feel so shitty to use that I only use Tundra to counter DI's. Ive tried using em in neutral or for low crushes but it seems there are better tools for the job.
i have never once even thought about attempting to input ankletwister because fighting games have told me i have a 90% chance of eat a full combo from move-specific-counters because i am shit at reads.

I was super plat in SFV and I'm currently plat 2 in SFVI. Guy I know was ultra plat and now he's plat 1. I don't think it's as inflated as people think, it's mostly just letting people reach the higher ranks faster. When V started it took a while for people to reach higher ranks, this lets people rank up faster between placements and win streaks in lower ranks.

In a strict game you wouldn't get neither fireball nor DP since you're missing the clean 2 input.
SF has been extremely lax with it so I wouldn't be surprised if people coming from slightly stricter games are getting misinputs out the wazoo.
Also looks like hitbox since skipping 2 is a common issue when learning.
My suggestion would be to try starting the halfcircle from forward rather than down forward. That + have a moment where you're holding all 3 buttons to get the down input in there.

Drive mechanics are still taking some getting used to, but I think in the end I'll like 6 more.
Only thing I miss from V is the roster, personally I like how returning characters get both their v skills or a better version of their best one, they feel more feature complete. Honda is especially nice now that I don't have to chose between better combo routes or higher combo damage, now I just have both outright.

I don't think there's any deranking until you get to platinum. I started at the bottom of gold and have been firmly entrenched there.
HP and target combos are the only reliable armor breakers, and they both have issues when it comes to optimal combo damage. Bakkai's too slow to start hitting and is an easy punish if they block instead. His light kicks, despite being their own little attack string, are too slow to break armor. And his EX DP is only one hit when blocked, after which he just flops on the ground. Compare that to Ken's DP that just blows up armor.
Sorry that you have to learn to bait out DIs, Jamie players. It really is unfair that you have to mix in cancelable normals like everyone else 🙁

i think SF6 just has a very small roster and a weird look that's a departure from the series traditional Japanese aesthetic, so it hasn't been a huge hit with the same people who liked SFV. Jive got a lot of mods, especially as more characters came out. people are still making mods for Jive, actually.

Always parry fireballs or you'll get burnt out. Advance in as you parry and if you can read their timing jump in for a full punish

Every once in a while, if you feel like your play is stagnating, pick one new thing to learn and try to incorporate. "googling and memorizing combos for specific scenarios" helps but this is something done over a long period of time. e.g. you could take your 1 combo you know and say "Okay, now I'm going to learn a slightly different one for when I think the opponent is going to end up in the corner afterwards", and then "Now I'm going to learn a slightly different one to blow through more resources (cough drive rush cough) when I think it will close out a round", etc.

Drive Impact in about 3 months time will be a lot more interesting of a mechanic, I can almost immediately spot who is newer to SF by how well they play without it, you can tell they're still adjusting to having such a powerful mechanic available all the time. Skilled players who cut their teeth in 4 tend to overuse drive rush, it's not FADC. I'm running into Masters and Diamonds who blow their meter immediately on what ends up being a protracted blockstring

I really enjoy that they brought setplay to the forefront of playing it, starting every match with full meter means it's a psychological battle from the first second, it also gives people a lot more flexibility as to how they play their character; everyone I've run into has their own spin on how they play and it's much, much more interesting already than V ever was. If the normal throw is active first yes, it'll grab the grappler out of the startup of their grab. Sometimes command grabs will be throw-invincible, particularly EXs. I remember they took that property away from EX SPD late into V's life and everybody complained.

Just looking at Zangief's SPD which is just as fast as normal throws, it doesn't have any special defense against normal throws and will lose if they'd land on the same frame. One quirk it does have is that his standing jump frames from the 360 input are throw immune, so he can punish counter normal throws that come out before his SPD activates.

Mix charge timings of gladius and heavy buttons to throw your opponent off. Don't solely rely on specials in neutral, but show your opponent that you're willing to throw them out. Oki with drive rush. Rush in with drive rush once the opponent starts looking out for specials too much. Make copious usage of st.mp target combo.
