It's sprites that where made from 3d models, it looks pixely because it's low resolution. The DE versions of AoE use the same method they just have more rotations on the sprite sheet and higher resolution for the final sprites.

I think in one of the dev videos they said some other models were irretrievable as well so they had to remake them from scratch, such as trees.

I expected stronghold with QoL updates, the ability to run well on 1440p, and more missions. That's what I seem to have received, so I'm happy. Some people may want skirmish mode, and if that's key for them they may be less happy.
They can just wait for Stronghold Crusader, since that's basically what that is.

That mission angered me so much. Fricking rat having horses, knights and crossbowmans and he has them more numerous on this shitty valley then wolf had on his main castle in the last mission. Completely destroying lore and looks idiotically amateur. But for some reason second mission is much better. Rat sends at your only his usual army of spearman, longbows and few maceman in decent numbers. And map looks much better with more details. Its almost like those two mission are made by two different people.
3rd or 4th mission is more of the same *~~

theres no lowering the walls and other buildings button anymore, cant be bothered to make a slightly different versions of a few sprites in your cheap ai upscale "remaster" i guess
they rewrote it for unity, for some fricking reason, but not completely, some old tricks doesnt work now, like overcoming terrain differences in elevation by building a box out of walls and then a tower on top, which you can later remove and have a flat piece of terrain. Now it does work.
Imo yhe visual upgrade was well worth for AoE2 and Brood War, but for this imo the HD version is the superior one

It's RTS on a chassis of a City Builder. A battle focused City Builder. One of the few strategy games with actually cool sieges as both attackers and defenders.
Thanks to this its also far better at strategy layer and more indepth than a lot of other RTS, like AoE

Yea it's the best siege assault simulator despite its flaws. Hasn't really been topped where you can build a castle with a lively economy. Always a sense of anticipation if the AI waves will overwhelm you on very hard. The sound design is perfect. Atleast in Crusader and Stronghold 1.

Nah that's 18, 15 is the first time. The worst part is that it's more annoying than difficult, because you have to facetank both types of missile troops that can shoot farther and from cover. Trying to get them to target your battering ram or expendable troops like ladders doesn't work because the AI is smart enough to prioritize your own missile troops. Letting us disassemble the ram for even just two missile shields would solve so much headache.
I don't find the pig missions to be hard to be honest, I dislike the wolf den more as you have to deal with trebfrickery with no stone mining ability and pitch all over the place.
Back in the day, I used my own nine crossbowmen and abused a weird range bug where I could shoot (inaccurately) at the enemy crossbowmen, and didn't touch any other troops until the first two walls were dead. It took over an hour. :^)

Without. There was a brief window where your troops advance at the enemy (they have to be moving) and the reticle turns red, but any longer than that, and the enemy crossbowmen start winding up, and you have to retreat.

Go in from the top along the rockface and have your spearmen dig up the moat in a thin strip until you reach the wall, have your ranged units force shoot on one enemy ranged unit at the time. Send in laddermen and macemen to take the towers and have the macemen run on the walls to capture the other towers (run the long way around to spare them from arrows, use any remaining spearmen as meatshields for your mace men. Have the ram smah down a tower from where you dug up the moat and then have it destroy the gate so leftover mace/spearmen can rush the archers on the outer towers.
I ended up beating it by a frontal gate assault with the ram but it took severely moronic micro.
now do it on very hard where you get like half of these units and enemy has an extra dozen pikemen

This and the rematch are both moronic. If the devs let you have a catapult instead this would involve less praying you can take out enough crossbows/archers and saccing troops to light the pitch fires, but no.

Often those maps wouldn't let you buy grain or sell bread. Defense missions with full market access are somewhat rare in the original campaign.
Crusader lifted those restrictions so you could even have a resourceless economy if needed
