Beating the final corridor before the battle with the Fates in GoW2 on Titan is literally 100x deeper and harder than anything in your entire franchise let alone the shit tier reboot. Play action games outside of your series before you try to talk authoritatively about the genre, stupid casual fricking homosexual. It has the best grab system in Action, period. It uses the environment better than all but one other game, which is considerably rougher than GoW. It encourages a strong grasp of the fundamentals and good tactics over dancing around like a fairy. Ground, air, OH, alt OH, grab specials, reversals, option selects, finishers, the works. More and better options than any other in the genre by a huge margin, with support systems.
Trying to DPS things to death in GoW like DMCshit doesn't work in terms of efficiency. Pay focuses on grabs, the environment (kicking things over cliffs, into hazards, finding places where enemies can't hit you from, AI boundaries), collisions, Power% ignoring options, and stunlocks. There are attacks that ignore Power%, most notably grabs and (most) magic (all in GoW1), which makes it smart to focus on them on high difficulties since they're not any weaker. Big foe with tons of HP by a cliff? Send him over it. Large HP target with low petrification resist? Freeze and shatter. Another damned tank open to launching? Happens to bounce after air grabs, too? Air OS infinite (killing 600HP Tormentors in just three, but the trick is knowing how to get them into the air to begin with as they resist launching unlike the rest of the minotaurs).
Efficiency and high-level play is the priority. Not dicking around like an attention whoring clown for an audience for some webm aka DMCuck 5.
But yes, DMC, the game with abundant healing items and an AoE nuke used invincibly from a pause menu, or a single OHKO weapon is "better" than GoW.

The square square triangle criticism applies to the previous games, GoW3 was actually a huge improvement. Much smoother controls, quick on-the-fly weapon switching, almost every option has a function, enemies don't force you into a rigid my-turn-your-turn playstyle, there's a regenerating item bar, and hyperion ram is fun as frick (albeit broken). 3 is the one you play for the combat, the others exist for the spectacle.

Only reason i hated it and never played is it had serious audio issues on "my* launch ps3. I highly doubt it was just me with the issue but i went as far as completely resetting my ps3 at the time and trying multiple tvs and still had missing audio. All the sounds i had were grunting and occasional blade noises with some back ground music that would cut off most the time.

I believe all Three LittleBigPlanets are stuck on PS3. Maybe the 3 one was on PS4 as well? Can't remember. But it doesn't matter anyways because the morons shut down the level servers therefore you're stuck with the story mode levels only.
This game should've just had a linear campaign. The jumping back and forth did nothing to improve its story, and took away from the furies (who arent properly introduced until more than halfway through the game)
Also, what story reason is there for kratos to start at kirra? He's just there in some house when orkos shows up to get him on his quest, and he goes to the next town over to get to the oracle's temple, but there was never a reason for him to be at kirra in the first place other than "well he has to walk to delphi so we may as well start the game here"
If anyone wants to emulate this, remember you need all patches up to 1.12 or rpcs3 will crash at various points (especially when fighting the hechatonchires and towards the end of delos)

The God of War: Ragnarok actually made a reference to Ascension, and Chains of Olympus was probably the most referenced game, which I was definitely not expecting.
I dunno why Sony doesn’t just port GoW 1&2, CoO, GoS, and Ascension to Ps4/5, 3 already got a port. They just released a DLC who’s main attraction was nostalgia for these games, but you need a ps3 to play them.

Most of the enemies are worse reskins of old ones, down to reusing the same models (cyclops are the same, wraiths are the same, gorgons are the same with a new look, hades cerberus has an added shitty ground burrowing attack where popping up stuns you)
the new talos are the most "different" and they completely blow (long ten second invincibility phases where you can do nothing to them as they slowly walk towards you)
harpies are more annoying/less fun since you can't grapple them anymore
enemies with shields completely break the pace of the combat (plume of prometheus or bare handed spam to disarm them). Armoured enemies can't be grappled and bashed into like in 3, and have much more "armour" you need to wear down. >parry isn't overpowered

I personally hated Thera's bane because the cheap bombs made the basic game even easier if you knew how to use them well, whole game plan turned into a fiery stun parade and aside from that ONE room filled with cyclopes, underground grabby wraiths and shitty camera angle GoS was a trivial walk in the park on titan. Ironically, I think that ragnarok did the best job with this idea.

Their elemental powers are a cosmetic only, but the attacks are the same. You can absolutely abuse wraiths with grabs like in 3 by blocking their lunge, slamming them, then mashing R1 on them. The "super" phase is the worst thing about this enemy. You can't engage in any way and there's no tell midcombo so you just get hit and knocked back. That's not a problem they have in 3. In 3 the talos are slow damage sponges but at least hit hard and are paired with fodder the right way to make fights interesting (battering rams, grapples). In Ascension they're just a "turn off your ability to interact with the enemy" button the devs used. >parry and blocking is extremely strong in every gow because of AOE damage and stun
The AOE is only an argument for 2, in 3 it doesn't AOE, and its damage is just as much in ascension. The only truly overpowered parry in the series is the one in ghost, high damage and the timing is super easy. Point being ascension is just less functions you can do in response to an enemy attack, like launching them.

They added much needed depth to the game with the detonations that let you do interesting juggles to enemies. The explosive bomb property is in ascension when you have rage anyway. There's no difficulty sweetspot, either you feel like you're drowning because you dont have rage, or you kill everything in three hits when you do have it. >manticore

this feels like an unfair comparison when they're identical to the bug fodder, and ignores armoured versions they get paired up with that give you much more options to deal with because of 3s combat systems.

It kinda was a no fun allowed gimmick because there were enemies that could only be attacked with it. All that resulted in was periods of waiting until Thea's meter recharged.
I think the most underdeveloped thing in that game was the Horn of Boreas. That thing was fricking hilarious to used when fully leveled up. If you could move while spinning it it would have had more tactical value. Also drained your magic like a b***h.

Oh look it's a difficulty homosexual who doesn't understand that GOW was always about combat flow instead of his Ninja Gaiden wank fest. The parry change is shit and was only done because of the multiplayer and the rage meter system is garbage. Lets not forget the awful audio drop outs, bullet time on every QTE and camera pan interruptions when a puzzle is first seen and then completed. Climbing with the blades was completely removed as well as wall combat. Fricking shit design.
I think the base speed is similar, but what you're able to get up to i.e. dashing around, your movement options, few attacks to cancel into make it play slower than 3
The arenas are also deceptively large. 3 liked its small arenas and you were much zippier so outside of the fights on top of the boxes you were rarely more than a half-second from anything you were trying to kill. Ascension really wanted to show off what the PS3 could do.

My memory is hazy, but I'm pretty sure you only get those moves because you've got the Icarus Wings. Also the blades now auto target aerial enemies so you can be on the ground and hit them without jumping.
nah the grapple wasnt tied to the wings. dash was but they could make up a new item that granted it idc.
And yeah blades autotarget tall and flying guys but they tended to miss flying enemies anyway. That aside air movement is fun and autotarget doesnt satisfy that

Game-play wise, just simply have Kratos murder whatever else was left of the myths to kill lol.
Story-wise, we know Ares was planning to usurp Olympus, and Kratos was a key part of his plan(for reasons that are not too important).
So, it would make sense for Kratos to be sent to assassinate and conquer those who might oppose Ares in the coming war. The god of war can't kill them himself because the other gods would caught on and the war would start prematurely.
Some of the gods may summon their own champions to kill Kratos, which would explain why Athena only has one oracle to help Kratos during GoW 1. Most of the other champions of the gods are dead.
Include more named monsters that we have seen before: Chiron, the three elder cyclops that forged Zeus's thunderbolts, you can even include Pan if you don't mention he is a god (like how Gaia is a Titan in game); heroes we did not see like Achilles (if he is not meant to be alive, justify him, or any other dead hero, as summoned back by Hades); Have new monsters like Callisto's half-bear offspring, sphinxes, freaking Echidna!
The furies were a good idea, really. They could still be in the game as Ares's enforcers, constantly threatening Kratos with a life-time of torture if he ever backs down from his life-debt to Ares.
Hell, could even have other mythologies involved like the early part of Chains of Olympus.
I just think a story of General Kratos, before he was the ghost of Sparta, is not that hopeless.
The people he kills dont even have to be jerks, since it's all the bidding of Ares.

A strong contender for a boss would be stheno, the final gorgon sister. She was in ascension's multiplayer I believe, but scoring all three would have been cool.
It's worse, sadly. Instead of alternate weapons you have elemental affinities for the blades of chaos that give mildly different combos. You can also pick up random swords and shit from the ground and use them as temporary weapons. The subweapons are pretty rote and rage of the gods activates as soon as it's full. The game looks phenomenal for the PS3 and has some impressive setpieces, but it's clear that this was a regression in both story and gameplay after III pretty conclusively ended the trilogy.
Your moveset feels a lot smaller and weaker than 3’s. Only 1 weapon, many moves are tied to a meter, every type of magic is just a reskinned AOE cutscene attack, the parry feels weak.
3 >four weapons with different moves, four varied magic attacks, three subweapons, full use of the controller >special moves and grapples

On the subject of Ghost of Sparta, anyone else think that it was stupid to have the Realm of Death near the end of the game instead of near he start? The whole area feels really uninteresting. Should have done what GOW1 and GOW2 did in terms of pacing and Demos should have had more presence across the whole game instead of right at the end.
I think the flashbacks to him as a kid were enough to build him and kratos' guilt up

You can, and it will run, but not properly. It's pretty broken and you need good hardware to run that at framerates that don't suck. Basically you need to run a patch and turn the broken FX shit off. Also, what story reason is there for kratos to start at kirra? He's just there in some house when orkos shows up to get him on his quest, and he goes to the next town over to get to the oracle's temple, but there was never a reason for him to be at kirra in the first place other than "well he has to walk to delphi so we may as well start the game here"

The God of War: Ragnarok actually made a reference to Ascension, and Chains of Olympus was probably the most referenced game, which I was definitely not expecting.

basic bug guys fodder, manticore, amazons, empusas, small satyrs, satyr captains(alto angelos at home). They are not a "pinnacle of design" in any way but are more interesting than basic b***h skeletons from 3. Many old enemies were also revamped in a decent way.

Their elemental powers are a cosmetic only, but the attacks are the same. You can absolutely abuse wraiths with grabs like in 3 by blocking their lunge, slamming them, then mashing R1 on them. I know because I did exactly that to cheese the fight in the head of apollo/trial of archimedes.

The "super" phase is the worst thing about this enemy. You can't engage in any way and there's no tell midcombo so you just get hit and knocked back. That's not a problem they have in 3. In 3 the talos are slow damage sponges but at least hit hard and are paired with fodder the right way to make fights interesting (battering rams, grapples). In Ascension they're just a "turn off your ability to interact with the enemy" button the devs used.

The AOE is only an argument for 2, in 3 it doesn't AOE, and its damage is just as much in ascension. The only truly overpowered parry in the series is the one in ghost, high damage and the timing is super easy. Point being ascension is just less functions you can do in response to an enemy attack, like launching them.

They added much needed depth to the game with the detonations that let you do interesting juggles to enemies. The explosive bomb property is in ascension when you have rage anyway. There's no difficulty sweetspot, either you feel like you're drowning because you dont have rage, or you kill everything in three hits when you do have it.

I'd agree with these if you didn't have rage meter restrictions and had more movement like in 3 to make fighting implacable armoured enemies fun. Ascension shield enemies are by far the worst fodder the series has ever had because of your lack of moves, and the linear way you have to deal with them.

this feels like an unfair comparison when they're identical to the bug fodder, and ignores armoured versions they get paired up with that give you much more options to deal with because of 3s combat systems.
What enemy in ascension is new or better than its equivalent in 3. Not worse, not a reskin that does the same thing, but an improvement. I count amazons and the manticore. Everything else is reskinned or a downgrade of some kind.

Most of the enemies are worse reskins of old ones, down to reusing the same models (cyclops are the same, wraiths are the same, gorgons are the same with a new look, hades cerberus has an added shitty ground burrowing attack where popping up stuns you)
the new talos are the most "different" and they completely blow (long ten second invincibility phases where you can do nothing to them as they slowly walk towards you)
harpies are more annoying/less fun since you can't grapple them anymore
enemies with shields completely break the pace of the combat (plume of prometheus or bare handed spam to disarm them). Armoured enemies can't be grappled and bashed into like in 3, and have much more "armour" you need to wear down.

It kinda was a no fun allowed gimmick because there were enemies that could only be attacked with it. All that resulted in was periods of waiting until Thea's meter recharged.
I think the most underdeveloped thing in that game was the Horn of Boreas. That thing was fricking hilarious to used when fully leveled up. If you could move while spinning it it would have had more tactical value. Also drained your magic like a b***h.

The Atlantis cog wheel guys could only be broken with it. Also I think those globe enemies couldn't be hit without Thea's Bane being used.

Oh look it's a difficulty homosexual who doesn't understand that GOW was always about combat flow instead of his Ninja Gaiden wank fest. The parry change is shit and was only done because of the multiplayer and the rage meter system is garbage. Lets not forget the awful audio drop outs, bullet time on every QTE and camera pan interruptions when a puzzle is first seen and then completed. Climbing with the blades was completely removed as well as wall combat. Fricking shit design.
I think the base speed is similar, but what you're able to get up to i.e. dashing around, your movement options, few attacks to cancel into make it play slower than 3
The arenas are also deceptively large. 3 liked its small arenas and you were much zippier so outside of the fights on top of the boxes you were rarely more than a half-second from anything you were trying to kill. Ascension really wanted to show off what the PS3 could do.

My memory is hazy, but I'm pretty sure you only get those moves because you've got the Icarus Wings. Also the blades now auto target aerial enemies so you can be on the ground and hit them without jumping.

And yeah blades autotarget tall and flying guys but they tended to miss flying enemies anyway. That aside air movement is fun and autotarget doesnt satisfy that

But I feel like if this game took place while Kratos was under Ares's command. It wouldn't be as aimless as

Game-play wise, just simply have Kratos murder whatever else was left of the myths to kill lol.
Story-wise, we know Ares was planning to usurp Olympus, and Kratos was a key part of his plan(for reasons that are not too important).
So, it would make sense for Kratos to be sent to assassinate and conquer those who might oppose Ares in the coming war. The god of war can't kill them himself because the other gods would caught on and the war would start prematurely.
Some of the gods may summon their own champions to kill Kratos, which would explain why Athena only has one oracle to help Kratos during GoW 1. Most of the other champions of the gods are dead.
Include more named monsters that we have seen before: Chiron, the three elder cyclops that forged Zeus's thunderbolts, you can even include Pan if you don't mention he is a god (like how Gaia is a Titan in game); heroes we did not see like Achilles (if he is not meant to be alive, justify him, or any other dead hero, as summoned back by Hades); Have new monsters like Callisto's half-bear offspring, sphinxes, freaking Echidna!
The furies were a good idea, really. They could still be in the game as Ares's enforcers, constantly threatening Kratos with a life-time of torture if he ever backs down from his life-debt to Ares.
Hell, could even have other mythologies involved like the early part of Chains of Olympus.
I just think a story of General Kratos, before he was the ghost of Sparta, is not that hopeless.
The people he kills dont even have to be jerks, since it's all the bidding of Ares.

It's worse, sadly. Instead of alternate weapons you have elemental affinities for the blades of chaos that give mildly different combos. You can also pick up random swords and shit from the ground and use them as temporary weapons. The subweapons are pretty rote and rage of the gods activates as soon as it's full. The game looks phenomenal for the PS3 and has some impressive setpieces, but it's clear that this was a regression in both story and gameplay after III pretty conclusively ended the trilogy.
Your moveset feels a lot smaller and weaker than 3’s. Only 1 weapon, many moves are tied to a meter, every type of magic is just a reskinned AOE cutscene attack, the parry feels weak.
