>stupid essence mechanic means there's no longer a balance of "might and magic" - if you want to cast magic, you have to have a big army as well
>a strong army is additionally boosted by strong magic to snowball out of control
>a weaker army is completely worthless AND has no magic
>stupid limit on how many creatures in a stack
>stupid limit on how many heroes you can own
>stupid limit on number of buildings in a town
>stupid momentum mechanic means splitting stacks is no longer benefitial
>stupid "attacks of opportunity" mechanic so you can't flank
>can't mix creatures from different factions
>can't hire neutral creatures
>instead of "annoying enemy hero with no army flags all your dwellings" it's now that PLUS he breaks individual buildings in your town
>no town screen, therefore no town music
>cannot afford shit, everything costs thousands of gold, treasures you find on the map give hundreds
>overabundance of artifacts that you can't sell. Artifacts only provide stats and nothing else
>no spell power or knowledge stats, ONLY essence and it's ONLY dependent on your army
>all factions share a single spellbook with 20 spells. No different schools of magic. No learning spells.
>everything blends together on the map, constantly confusing interactable objects and resources with props and rocks
>obtuse town UI, have to click on individual buildings, different screens for "hire units" and "hire units into hero's army" for some reason
>no quickbuy button
>no overworld spells
>no "defend" or "wait" button, can only skip turn (even shitty Homm 5,6,7 got this right)
>combat, despite all of its seemingly new "tactical" additions, still boils down to "hire a bigger army than your opponent, then dominate"
>creature abilities have miniscule impact on the fight
>only four factions, as many as in H1
>out of all hero factions, the ones brought back: humans+rampart, undead, fortress (?!), and a mix of academy + barbarians
>wokeshit campaign
Why should I play this over HoMM3 again?

>wokeshit campaign
Explain.
I bought it yesterday but haven't booted it up yet. If it's truly woke i'll just refund it.
It's in the "possible to be ignored" magnitude of wokeness. Just a suspicious amount of women and blacks where you wouldn't expect. There's no white male hero.
Protagonist is a woman, secondary hero is a black guy, enemies are a frog and a lady necromancer
Nothing more gay than that
everything else however...
cope schizo. take your meds or vacate back to your containment board
>nooo stop criticitizing video game! stop discussing video games on Ganker!
Shill begone
>There's no white male hero.
>In a HoMM-clone
Guess i'll refund it. Thanks.
I wish the devs good financial luck in selling turn-based strategy games to nogs and women.
>no white male hero
there literally are you disingenuous schizo, people like you are why nobody takes your pearl clutching homosexual team seriously anymore
This game has more black female characters than white male characters. Tells everything you need to know about their target audience.
nayrt but literally everyone in the actual campaigns aside from the scalies (that probably also count considering the whole slave revenge fanfic aspect) are either a stronk womyn, Blacks or both.
Not that it's a loss to refund it either way since everyone but people like Sseth who can coom for days off abusing mechanics against a mediocre AI (probably a ritalin side effect) will notice that it's very sparse on decent actual content in it's current state.
yeah bro, having the 99.99% of people of that demographic be less represented than a literal 0% is totally not pozzed at all
afro Black person yeah ill save my money
I was talking about campaign
Also, if only take a gander at my OP post, you may notice that this is only a miniscule piece of schrapnel in my artillery of criticism
What I don't like is that you have to make your hero a pure caster and no other options, the unit cap and how the necro faction straight up gets no fricking zombies for killing huge armies. Getting like 4 shmucks that can't move, can't attack or even work as a proper barricade isn't a good reward for murdering a doom stack.
I guess the factions play too similar too.
Seems to me all the factions play the same.
They do
>a weaker army is weaker
>a stronger army is stronger
wow how awful
A stronger army is needlessly extra stronger with magic
If you were hoping, through clever positioning and tactics and partisan warfare, to try and deal as much damage as possible with a weaker army, that hope is shattered cause they fricking have magic ON TOP of their numbers
each creature powers up your spellcaster's mana
In Homm, magic is not dependant on army at all, and why should it be?
>A stronger army doesn't need to be stronger because I don't think so
>It's different in different game
>A stronger army doesn't need to be stronger because I don't think so
Yes
>It's different in different game
This game is a 1 for 1 clone of Homm, and the only things that are different are the ones that are worse. It is marketed as a "spiritual successor" of homm. They should learn from their source of inspiration instead of changing shit for the sake of being different
Getting magic power depending on troop types isn't a bad idea but how it's implemented is ass.
You can't make a compromise with weaker units for better mana options or vice versa, the farmed up one will just have both because he can take on more unit types. Unit cap already fricks up your option and so does how team caps work.
It's a shitty HoMM clone that doesn't really understand what made HoMM good. For once, OP is right.
Yeah, the essence mechanic is the biggest problem with this game. Also how opening army slots is objectively the best strategy to play, so there's no real choice upon level-ups.
In general the matches always feel the same.
Differentiating the factions more is one of the few suggestions they openly tagged as rejected on their feature requests so don't expect that to ever get fixed.
The frick, why?
Link?
To avoid moronic balance issues that plague HOMM to this day.
You know you can also avoid balance issues by not making a video game and instead making it a fricking webcomic
what is this moronic logic
You can make factions be different AND ALSO balanced, you know???? do they know?
Because it means they can just work on some pixel art that'll play exactly the same as the other pixel art.
And it's on their user suggestions/feature upvote page.
Sure, and maybe they could replace all resources, and units with a single one while they're at it. Mechanics too.
Y'know.
In the name of balance.
>sseth makes a video
>10,000 shill threads
Where were you fricks during the first shill tuber drop for this game?
Age of Wonders 3 is a way better game, and if they added some actual monsters instead of just "elf with sword," and "elf with staff," it might even be better than Heroes of Might and Magic.
This game looks shittier than games from 30 years ago.
I never actually played AoW3, is it really worth the time?
Why and how the frick is the AI consistently spamming heroes with no fricking troops
Seriously what even is the purpose
Even if the AI didn't need to cheat to do so the majority of the world is always locked by monsters these rando heroes can't deal with and unit recruiting is one of the fricking slowest in the genre despite having extremely limiting unit caps
