Sucks ass how these official Pokmon amiibo do nothing in Pokmon games.

Sucks ass how these official Pokémon amiibo do nothing in Pokémon games. Would be cool if they at the very least gave you random items or an outfit (you can buy in game but can unlock for free with the amiibo) or some shit. What a waste. I own Greninja and Lucario who was a gift. I remember training my Greninja on my 3Ds in smash like he was my Pokémon partner and shit

    >animal crossing amiibos can unlock new villagers in their games
    >xenoblade amiibos unlock weapon skins in their games
    >zelda amiibos unlocked clothing, weapons and even special features on the WiiU like the blue hearts

    >pokemon amiibos unlock:

Thanks OP. As if I needed more reason to hate Gamefreak and affirm the idea that they don't give a shit about their games. You just managed to find another reason.

Pokémon would've been the perfect franchise to exploit amiibo to its fullest potential, even more than Animal Crossing. At the very least it should've been an alternative for players to obtain event exclusive Pokémon and items to curb FOMO (as if amiibo itself wasn't FOMO enough). I don't mind buying an amiibo card of Garchomp to obtain the Garchomp Kimono Set in Legends Arceus if I missed out on the early purchase bonus or a Mew amiibo to get it in LGPE or BDSP without having to shell out extra for a controller or SWSH.

Even worse, they did give a shit with amiibo's spiritual predecessor the e-Reader and Pokémon was one of the few things everybody remembers that for.

It is said Creatures Inc. was part of the development of the e-Reader. So it makes sense the Pokémon support would be strong.

Does anyone know if the original Detective Pikachu amiibo does anything in the switch sequel? What did it even do in the original game anyway

Apparently Detective Pikachu Returns isn't even amiibo compatible.
      >What did it even do in the original game anyway
Unlocks all Pika Prompts in completed chapters, which is more for convenience since its function can be done via normal gameplay.

I got Pikachu during the initial “hype” around Amiibo, and someone gifted Incineroar years later, knowing I would sometimes play him as a goof. The concept of Amiibo was neat, but Nintendo dropped the ball hard with the Switch (and it was never all that great before).

I don’t see what’s so difficult about providing convenience (like with Animal Crossing villagers) or alt skins instead of near-useless items or literally nothing, but Nintendo barely manages to release completed games these days.

Amiibo came around during the skylander hype and Disney had a similar game as well. I’m surprised Nintendo made an amiibo only game even if it only allowed their main IP ones to be used. I know the legend of Zelda series got a bunch of amiibo and if anything Nintendo keeps them around as collectibles at most since they tend to be useless. I don’t play Incineroar in smash but I’d get his amiibo to train him and stuff

With some Amiibo, you just accept that this is the case at the time of purchase. I couldn’t pass up on the Banjo Kazooie Amiibo, but I knew it would never have a use outside of Smash. Kind of sad, though if it has to be restricted to one game, Smash might be the best one in terms of functionality. The Incin Amiibo is pretty fun in Smash if you’re into fighting Amiibo; he’s actually one of the strongest due to his simplicity and power.

BoTW still had the best idea with giving you the outfits even if you had to save scum to get all the pieces.

That kind of thing is a good use for Amiibo. I’d prefer if the cosmetics were still available through normal play, but it’s hard to get bent out of shape over something that doesn’t affect gameplay much if at all.

Meh who cares, half of these homosexuals are probably gonna be cut next Smash anyways.

Every now and then I think about this and it's crazy that amiibos have 0 functionality in any pokemon game, when Pokemon has always been the ones taking advantage of every little weird technical function of the nintendo handhelds - GBC's IR sensor, the DS dual slot, the obscure mobile link that was only available in japan, the e-reader, the 3DS cameras and gyroscope, the GBA wireless adapters, etc.

The closest thing we ever got were these pre-amiibo NFC figures for Pokemon Rumble, and I'm guessing maybe they didn't sell as well as expected and Gamefreak/TPC decided just to ignore the whole Toys To Life craze as a result.

I didn’t even know this was a thing I thought rumble was cute and kept the My Pokémon ranch legacy going. The 3DS game even had your mii in the hub world

Someone who works with Pokémon must hate amiibo so much that the Pokémon costumes in Mario Maker didn't even have custom sounds.
