This thing is deader than dead. This will not break 100k players. It will not break 50k. I'd be surprised if it was much higher than 10k.
It's not just bad. When something is bad that means that it invokes strong feelings. The same thing happens when something is really good, it will invoke powerful emotions. Starfield was neither of these things. I walked away from Starfield feeling emotional apathetic and indifferent. Like the experience never even happened in the first place.
Steam prevalence today is not the same as it was back then.
Yearly cost of game development is much higher. Not to mention, that's a game developed in 2 years. Suicide Squad took what, 7? And that's best case scenario. Arkham Knight came out in 2015 so it could be even longer.
This game needs an ungodly amount of money to break even, let alone make a profit. They haven't released a major game since 2015. WB isn't about to let them keep wasting money for another decade. Rocksteady is shutting down.

With the current Steam player numbers, the biggest problem with the pre-release numbers is the drop off.
The three daily peaks thus far have been 7152->5864->5019. For a title that is expected to be a GaaS, having those kind of drop offs should be quite worrying even if it were to manage a strong initial peak this weekend.

The Division had over a 100,000 on Steam. Suicide Squad is The Division in Metropolis with more intense fighting like in Fortnite and getting blown off platforms like in Smash Brothers. And it has big budget Hollywood level cinematics and acting.
