Not really, the storytelling and plot is pretty bad, characters are uninteresting and the gameplay is worse than the average Suikoden in that it's so damn easy you don't even need to use runes most of the times, it's brainless attack spam.
It's also incredibly short, iirc I ended up finishing it in barely 15-20 hours and after spending some time looking up recruitment conditions it turned out I mostly got everyone too in that short amount of time.

Really? I must have missed that, odd choice considering nobody fricking like Tsumugareshi and it bombed incredibly hard, should have translated Frontier Gate Boost+ when it comes to Konami stuff for the PSP, the only saving grace of Tsumugareshi is that it looks kinda nice for a PSP game.
Is it considered as bad as the DS game?
I'd reckon it's worse than Tierkreis, but memory fails me a bit when it comes to that one, I do not remember it being the utter disappointment Tsumugareshi was.
Problem is it has nothing to do with Suikoden. Combat system is totally different despite having six characters. Not to mention the whole time travel thing as key point of the game.

Not even close. Pokemon is, then Persona. It isn't 2001 anymore. FF is has been dead as a brand for two decades and DQ is for nip boomers.

it's better than 3 (worst game in the series) but it's still bland and boring
but i reccomend giving the NDS game a try the combat system is mediocre slop but everything else is good
and keep away from 4 it's not worth it
it's comfy and underrated, but i admit it could be more ambitious in terms of story and chars.
It's a 6/10, a bit weak but it's playable. It's also on the short side, like 30-40 hours
