Summary of Xbox Business Update

What I’ve gathered and I’m happy. Even stronger hardware and Game Pass Day 1. No change for its exclusivity strategy.

Perhaps I’m not quite as moronic as the average moron, but I think it’s pretty obvious that most third party games on game pass are on there for as long as the publisher agreed for it to be on there. The only games on there permanently are first party, meaning it’s obvious that something like P5R wasn’t going to be on it forever. By nature, any subscription service is a service

So, I just want to point something out.

Sega's entire catalog is on Gamepass.
Sega's net worth is around 2.5 Billion
Let's say they gave Sega 500 million + X amount of years to have their games on Gamepass
I don't know where Xbox money goes but their HQ is in Redmond Washington.

These motherfrickers made 400 Million after taxes per month. THEY LITERALLY MADE THE MONEY BACK IN 1 MONTH AND BEGIN PROFITING THE NEXT MONTH. How the frick and why the frick do they keep saying they're not making money on Gamepass? If they paid Sega 1 Billion for this deal that would be stupid as frick but even so it only takes 2 and a half months to start profiting. Again, why the frick do they keep saying they're not making money?????

Besides Sega there aren't any other major companies with their entire catalog on Gamepass. They all have like one of two games at most meaning it was much cheaper than whatever they paid Sega .

They needed to respond to the rumors in some way. Having the big wigs come out and definitively say "no, we're not leaving" and to state the future vision of Xbox is better than a Twitter post. I really like how open the Xbox team is when talking about the industry and the platform: they talked about Steam and the Switch, discussed the success of Palworld, the influence of Fortnite and Minecraft. This is a total contrast to the completely inaccessible Nintendo and a slightly less inaccessible Sony - maybe it's a Japanese thing. I mean, can you even imagine the head of Nintendo (whoever that is) talking about Steam?

        Anonymous

Sony is the least communicative out of the 3. The few times Nintendo bigwigs get on camera it’s basic corporate speak usually but it’s enough. With Sony you basically get a 30 second overview of the console when it launches and that’s it for 7 years. The Xbox team uses a lot of fluff that isn’t needed but Phil just outright saying “yeah we’re gonna test the waters here for financial reasons, no we’re not gonna stop making consoles” is pretty good for a company (Microsoft) that tends to shoot itself in the foot and pretend nothing happened on a regular basis

Considering how many people are pretending this is a win even though he literally said "we're not going to port games that aren't a year old" Phil hit a triple with this word salad

Does series x have a different backwards compatibility list from xbone? Because I feel like not even half my og and 360 games work on that. Why does everyone suck off back compatibility when it's so incomplete?

      Anonymous

Everything Xbone can be played on SeX.
      Anything older read the list.

The reason not everything from OG/360 is available is because they ship what is essentially a virtual machine running your game in an emulator for the old games from incompatible hardware, and this counts as redistribution, so they have to get all stakeholder approval for each game.

        Anonymous

moron. the reason xbone and x/s are compatible is because they're both running the same OS kernel on the same AMD/x86 architecture.

older games aren't compatible because they use different machine code or OS/API. the way they get them to run isn't backward compatibility at all, the devs are porting the game to the newer xbox with completely recompiled executables, and the reason only some games have it is because those are the games ms PAID the devs to port so they could say xbox has backward compatibility for the most popular games. the devs have next to zero incentive to do it on their own, ms doesn't need "approval" from them, they need to fricking pay them for doing the work.

a virtual machine would mean everything would be compatible since the actual hardware/OS running it doesn't matter. stop pretending to understand tech and tech words. you're a console user.
