Haven't played a Pokemon game since BW v1, so I'll be be playing BW2 because it's apparently really good. After that though, I wanna try and follow gen order so I'll get X and OR, but following that I'm not sure whether to skip SuMo and go straight to USUM or not, before continuing to the later gens.
After a brief research online, my understanding is that SuMo has a better story but USUM has more Pokemon variety and better postgame content? Only know of the Alolan characters through porn so I want to actually get to know their background/story properly, and since I have so much content to catch up to, I don't really mind less postgame stuff. What are your opinions on their story, and would you say that the extra content in USUM makes up for any story differences? Also, which version do you prefer (Sun or Moon, USun or UMoon)?
I realise this must've been "discussed" and timelooped a ton over the years but please try to keep it as civil as possible
>SuMo
>USun
>UMoon
Sorry anon, I'm not familiar with the commonly used terms. What should I call them then?
Just SM, USUM (that was correct) and UM. We don't add cringe unnecessary letters. Just SV instead of the embarrassing "ScVi" some autists tried to make happen is fine too.
I think it's because Sun and Moon tend to be abbreviated to S&M which is a sex fetish as well.
Part of why I still use s&m instead of just sm.
>Only know of the Alolan characters through porn

USUM adds a lot of fun character interactions and little events and sidequests, but it sort of removes the strongest part of the entire story, which is really unsatisfying. the whole climax of the game and the resolution to the emotional throughline of the entire story was removed and replaced with something else, basically.
Yeah it's what I've read elsewhere as well. Do you think those events/sidequests/content are worth sacrificing the story? Would you say that it may even warrant a second playthrough (ie I play through M first then play US or something like that)?
oh yeah gen 7 is absolutely worth multiple playthroughs, it was a really good generation. i personally like SM more but i don't wanna undersell USUM, they really did add a lot.
one thing I would say is they might be tough to play back to back. just because gen 7 has a lot of unskippable dialogue & cutscenes and it might get tedious doing it twice in a row. give a little time in between to go in with a refreshed head.
>give a little time in between to go in with a refreshed head.
This is actually sound advice, I'll probably do that. There are still 6-7 games I'd have left after beating SM, so plenty of time to consider playing through USUM too.
On that note, I'll probably play through Sun, just because (Alolan) Vulpix is one of my favourite designs. What are the notable differences between the two versions?
just some version exclusive boss fights and the day-night cycle being flipped, otherwise it's just version exclusives like oranguru & passimian and drampa & turtonator
SM is a smaller game with a better story, USUM is a worse story with more content
SM if you care about the story
USUM if you just care about gameplay
I really enjoyed the SM story, Lusamine is an interesting villain who's main goal was overtaken by a corrupting forced crystal meth addiction by an alien jellyfish.
Then USUM makes it actually about another alien monster, which is shit.
>buy ultimate sun
>game arrives, it's the fricking UAE/Malaysia/Singapore version
It's gonna be bad isn't it?
Worth less money but no difference in the content.
Oh thank goodness.
i mean, it's region locked, isn't it?
HOW
The 3ds isn't region locked.
This fricking 3ds game has better render distance than SwSh and SV.
What the frick.
nothing after gen 6 is worth playing, and even gen 6 is pretty mediocre
The game is better animated than SV.
A lot of this game, ultra at least, just feels like a better gen8. Pathetic.
When people say SM has the better "story" they literally just mean only exactly Lillie. Everything else is better in USUM. For example, Hau goes from a waste of time to an actual character, which I guess is meant to be a counterbalance to Lillie going from an actual character to a waste of time.
