Sup Ganker, I was just wondering, what's your opinion on the new voice acting on Silent Hill 2 and 3 HD? More so 3, since I'm pretty sure everyone near unanimously thinks the new VA in 2 is completely out of character. I played both first with the HD version, but since I was able to use the original VA in 2, I used that.
Anyway, for 3 you can only play with the new VA and I actually prefer it tbh. Even after going back and hearing the original, I guess I probably like the HD version because I played it first. Heather definitely sounds like a 17 year old in the original, but I think I like her VA in the HD version more, even if she sounds like 5-10 years older. I also like the updated graphics in 3. I hear the graphics were fricking AWFUL when it came out and wasn't patched, can anyone expand upon that?

fog is completely gone, most if not all textures had been remade and look way, way worse. Audio issues all around, the new VAs suck and most importantly:

EVERY single element and detail was absolutely RAPED in the """HD""" Collection. Everything.
Graphics, audio, script, stability, performance... all far worse than in the PS2 / Xbox / PC originals.
It's been used as THE warning example of how bad things can go when "remastering" an old classic, for 11 years now.
It's so bad, even the original Team-Silent members (ie. Masahiro Ito) HATED it.
I would advise shooting anyone who supports this piece of crap on sight. Grab the PC ports + Enhanced Edition mods, and get your proper Ultra HD experience without censorship and ruined presentation.

Where can I get this? I use rutracker for most of my games because most of their torrents offer english versions, but the one Silent Hill 3 torrent is russian when you boot up the game and I have no idea how to translate it without learning cyrillic. Kickass torrents had been dead for years, tpb has absolute garbage search fuction, rarbg doesn't have it, I'm running out of options on this one.

Mount the ISOs of 2 & 3, and then run their installers like always.
DON'T use W10's own virtual disc app! It will not work.
Don't install under C:Program Files ! This will cause issues.
The "Enhanced .EXE" is also the no-CD crack!
The SH1 is a PS1 rip that you gotta emulate. I recommend DuckStation, but most emulators work OK as well.
Follow the instructions on SH2 Enhanced Edition's home page to the T, and you should be fine.
For 3 & 4, check the Guide and PC Gaming Wiki.

No one is seeding the Silent Hill 2 torrent. ;_;7 I remember trying to download this exact torrent before and no one was seeding it then either. The direct download doesn't work for me either, it always cuts off and then cancels because I don't have a mega premium account or w/e it's called...
Ugh... No one is seeding the Silent Hill 3 torrent either. I was able to find a Silent Hill 4 GOG edition, but 2 and 3 have been a white whale for me for like 3 months now. Frick my life.
Either wait for Burger Ganker to wake up and start seeding (you could even ask people to open up the torrents), or use a VPN to move ahead in time with DDLs.

Well I haven't been trying literally every day, my life doesn't revolve around Silent Hill 2 and 3 torrents. I've been playing through the Metal Gear Solid series in the meantime. No. PS4 does not run any previous Playstation games, period. There is no backwards compatibility.

These are LITERALLY around 20 years old PC ports, with system requirements of Windows 98 + CD-ROM drive. You could literally grab your granny's Windows XP tower and most likely run them just fine.

You can run PS2 games if your PS4 is hacked, but they run very suboptimally. I actually tried this with SH2.
injecting some 3rd party jailbreak emulator is not exactly comparable to real deal backwards compatibility. One reason I was against Piss4 originally, and still regret purchasing one to this day.

Pretty sure PS4 has a built-in one since you can download PS2 games off PSN, but it doesn't play well with injected games.

PS3 did the same thing with its PS Classics, which is why they work even on the Slim / Super Slim models, and have minor bonus feats like a PDF-style manuals in PS Button menu.

It's a subpar conversion at best, terrible at worst. Fog like that one anon said is busted, it's lifted enough to where you can see too much of the edges of environments, and it always looks like a grey line that's constantly out of reach. It just looks awful, and looks worse when you're near buildings or heading backwards compared to the PS2 version which had tons of fog to mask it.
Even then though there's more issues, like monsters playing the wrong sound effects, sometimes in SH3 they don't even make any sounds when hit on the subway, and they somehow broke the brightness settings on both games. They now set it to 5/7 instead of 3 in the originals, but even maxed out I could still barely see shit. The FMVs in SH2 are also terrible, they're super low res with washed out colors and mild ghosting. Shadows are also fricked sideways in SH2, leading to tons of weird issues, it's just a poor conversion all around that could've been so much more.

SH3 literally has THE best voice acting of the original four games. 1 and 2 were not bad, but 3 just blew them out of the water.

because israelitenami did not want to pay the old actors any royalties for re-using their audio, and pretended to not have managed to get in touch with Heather to get her permission.

They didn't want to pay royalties but they wanted to pay for an entirely new cast of voice actors...? That doesn't make any sense at all. It's like the opposite of israeli.
It's quite simple actually:
They had shot themselves to the foot by making a traditional deal with the OG actors, forcing them to pay royalties every time they would use the original score.
With the new dialog, they made a simple paid-in-advance deal that gives 'em right to re-use the shitty nu-OST and VAs for all eternity.
This also worked in favor for the project's notorious leader, Tomm Hulett, who originally wanted to make a full remake of SH2, based on his own fanfic script. israelitenami didn't allow this, but he still managed to tamper with the script there and here, juuust a little bit, thanks to the phoned-in nu-VA lines.
Only reason SH2 got the old VAs (but NOT the OST and SFX!) was because Guy Cihi, the VA, mocap and facial actor of James, ultimately gave up his rights for free, just so that a mega classic like SH2 wouldn't be ruined quite as bad for the fans. But of course it was.
The new voices are irredeemable garbage.

The new voices are shit. No way around it. They totally miss the point and ruin several scenes completely.
The new graphics are a literal downgrade. Missing effects, fricked up Gamma, buggy textures and models, single-digit performance at worse. The lack of fog is actually least of the issues, and sometimes they even added fog to wrong areas.
