Super Hang-On is one of the most soulful experiences on the SEGA Genesis, it truly is, "Outrun a Crisis" really nails that late 80's feel as if it was a cheesy motorcycle racing drama movie from the time, the gameplay is solid and balanced, the difficulty is just a little above Outrun but it hits just right.

Scaler racers are pretty underrated. Once you get into the zone, memorize courses, you get sucked into a trance that’s very satisfying.

i grew up with the Genesis version, i never stumbled upon the Arcade Version in any of the Arcade joints in my city.

It was all Model 2 and Model 3 SEGA Arcades by that time.

Also never seen this. The city I grew up in only had best of arcade stuff and a limited selection at that. Mostly street fighter/mk and racers but never seen this

Then when I got a gf they all disappeared because women hated video games back then and would rather go see live bands

(I think they still hate them and 1/4 pretend not to or something)

Women still hate most video games, its just easier for them to adapt to most modern triple a titles cause the industry has adapted to gain a more massive audience, there's much less women in the world that genuinely grew up and enjoyed 90's - 00's gaming

The music is a little nicer on the Mega Drive / Genesis.

the handle w/ throttle controls feels so good in the arcade version, even on the standing cabinet.

Interesting fact: The game was featured on 1987 music video by Soviet/Russian singer Yuri Antonov. Kind of a unique case for late 80s USSR. God knows where he found that arcade cabinet.

The soundtrack is actually insane. No matter what version you listen to it's just as catchy. I listen to the Amiga songs at least once a week.

3DS version is great because it’s based on the arcade version, has an additional world tour mode, visual filter options, can pick songs plus an equalizer, m2 really did a great job with some of these ports. Not sure how it emulates but I doubt it’s very demanding.

Most 80's Arcade Games from SEGA (Golden Axe, Outrun, etc..) are not demanding to emulate, they run smoothly on regular MAME

Play the arcade version, emulate it, get the Switch port, or the 3DS port, or play it in one of the many Yakuza games that include it as a minigame.
The analog controls alone make it 1000x times better than the Mega Drive version.

I was top 5 in the Space Harrier online leaderboard in that game
I hope one day they make a Yakuza where all the cabinets in the Sega World are playable

The arcade version of this was peak kino. It had a life-sized motorcycle replica that you sat on. I might be confusing it for another game though.

You didn't grow up with the SNES or Genesis to understand enough the magic of Arcade Ports from that era.

Shenmue kind of drilled the original game's theme into my head. It's what I associate with Hang-On now.
