>abstract enviroments with a hard separation between background and foreground AGAIN
Why can't the 2D Mario team figure out how to create a world that feels cohesive and real?
Hit the nail on the head. Rayman Origins/Legends had that same seamless look to it too where everything blended together. Still hyped for Wonder though because the improved backgrounds, setting that embraces the weirdness of the universe, and the multiple playable characters instead of giving us a blue and yellow toad make the whole thing come across as a faithful attempt at restoring good will and that deserves to be acknowledged.
DKCR series is just as soulless as NSMB. The amount of zoomers that defend those games is mind boggling. They completely destroyed all of the great atmosphere and wonder that the SNES games had.
DKCR is a different flavor of soul, it's absolutely a shame the old style got thrown out, but if DKCR was an original IP it'd be pretty soulful. The originals still have more soul though.
The surface level look is pretty generic, but it does small things within the game that make it plenty soulful and atmospheric.
>It's juvenile as frick and completely misses the vibe of the SNES games by a fricking mile.
Yeah that's what I said, not a fit for Donkey Kong given the amazing old style but still pretty good.
You're moronic. They're less dark and more cartoony than the Rare games, but in return their enviroments are much more cohesive and interactive, they make sense as real places, and they have infinitely more unique assets.
Think of the galleon in DKC2, its structure makes absolutely no sense if you think about it, it's designed only as a videogame obstacle course and in practice just as "abstract" as a Mario level, even if not as overtly.
The snowmads ships in Tropical Freeze, on the other hand? They're actually realistically designed ships, floating in a bay, you can jump off in the water and climb back on boad, and the platforming inside comes from luggage and ropes and stuff that is realistically placed on the boat.
Never talk shit about Retro again.
blocky, tile-based nature of 2d mario games does not mesh with the idea of a cohesive world and the series always prioritized gameplay above anything else
I'm a big soul/soulless poster and shit on the Nintendo cult all the time and the game looks absolutely wonderful, there genuinely is nothing to complain about from what we've seen
Super mario bros wonder? I wonder when they’ll make a good game
You got me to chuckle you son of a b***h.
CARLO-I mean WALDORF!!
heh you can do better
not quite as sovlful as oldschool 2d mario, but it's leaps and bounds better than the nsmb games
it's insane how samey the nsmb games looked, as a matter of fact every 2d mario after mario bros 3 has been samey as shit, even world
forest level looks kino as frick
Reminds me of the old games where the background was just a stylized mass of leaves to represent treetops
I'm just happy to see daisy actually playable.
Skipped the 3ds one and the wii u but my urge to face frick Peach is growing.
Will characters have their abilities back?
Only Yoshi seems to have a different playability
YI still looks better

because mods and hacks won't be possible
Why did you post an awful game

No, DKCR looks like a generic Dreamworks or Minions movie. It's juvenile as frick and completely misses the vibe of the SNES games by a fricking mile.

Everyone with talent at Retro was gone by the time Corruption came out. Most of them are scattered around Bluepoint and 343 now.

The voiced flowers (?) are intensely off-putting.
Nintendo discovered skyboxes
You know a game is kino when even Ganker can't find shit to complain about
Mandategays BTFO
/pol/gays BTFO
summergays/tourists trying to fit in BTFO
Feels so fricking good

How the frick will PERCENTAGES of coins work?
The animations look pretty bad IMO.
>all the "soul doesn't real" and "soul is just nostalgia" posters got cut down in one fell swoop
Beautiful
Daisy is a mainline game just seems so wild. Amy and Daisy eating good.
