Very doubtful, there's no reason to remake Melee, it would be infinitely easier and more resourceful to just tinker with SSBU.
The sheer amounts of onions short circuits any logic they might have, it's kinda like marvel fans
If they remake Melee they could kill the Melee scene and have the support of the general gaming community.
If they do it now, there's a chance that people and media get upset at Nintendo, but if there's a remake, most people will support Nintendo in banning tournaments for the original Melee.

It would be based on the most recent version, which was PAL Melee. Fox's upsmash is nerfed and so is Shiek. It would be so funny if they had to accept these changes finally.
I think they should just rebalance the whole game. Obviously if they gave a shit they could make the right changes. I mean we pretty much know exactly which characters are strong and not.

Close but not quite. Super Smash Bros Ultimate will be getting a "revamp" called Super Smash Bros Ultimate Melee. The idea is to make it a more hardcore game. There will be some new characters and stages too. Nintendo has big ambitions for expanding their competitive circuit. The sequel to Arms and Splatoon are coming too along with a new competitive tactics game where you have to predict what your opponent will do. It's hard to explain. We plan to get very rich.
