The war arc in general felt weird. The dark territory was supposed to be this terrible place filled with powerful beings that could steamroll the human realm but were all held back pretty easily with the basic integrity knights. Nothing about them even with outside intervention felt like they'd have a snowballs chance in hell of winning against them.

Honestly SAO is just better when Kirito and Asuna aren't together, not that that's a high bar to cross. Mother's Rosairo is one of the better arcs.
I do recall there being something like random real people being teleported in as goons and being casual while murdering "real" people from the simulation. Also how I think Kirito's sister or some elf got an arrow in her eye with full pain turned on. But it was awful to watch

Melee characters feel worse than the melee in Fatal Bullet somehow despite it being the main mode of play, and a ranged-only character like Sinon is snipers only, so she's constantly having to awkwardly shoot enemies in weak points in the middle of hectic and chaotic battles as a stop-and-go character, annihilating the fun FB had in the first place.
This plays like total butts despite it feeling kinda good when you're all leveled and set for the active mission.
Most SAO games are Relink but way better with actual content, even the first Hollow on PSP has more content than Relinkshit, I swear cygames shills need a good reality check

Honestly, I feel bad for the dev. It's clear they poured their passion into that game even though there wasn't much to work with. You can tell they threw in every idea for Freedom Wars 2 in FB, but it's the story, characters and low budget assets that bring everything down. I was so hyped for Last Recollection after Lycoris but god damn did that demo kill all my interest. I had way too many complaints they even made the UI significantly worse with the menu navigation when it was absolutely perfect in the last one

Lycoris is like a slightly worse version of tales of arise but it has a crazy deep defensive system that is literally deeper than sekiro.
The problem is that the game's framerate will tank so severely that timing perfect guards or guard drop parries will not feel amazing. Neither will there be enemies interesting enough to challenge you to use all of the defense
It still has the same skill linking that made the hollow games fun

Alicization is the one and only time the A team (funny they're the "A team" and not DIMPs) made a competent action JRPG. Hollow Realization isn't an action JRPG, instead it tries to be like a hybird of action and tab targeting MMOs. Some people like this so they say HR is the best one. Refragment is decent too. The others one are shit including the newer one Last Recollection. Last Recollection is Alicization without the "slightly worse" tales combat like this anon
mentioned. They removed the DEPTH in the tales combat and made it super brain dead with no depth.

Why havent they made a REAL fricking game? Like the biggest money pot was sitting there, just make an action mmorpg like the game, done. Instead of the samey low budget au story bullshit.
I mean, alternate universe aside, that's what HR and FB did to a degree at least. FB was extremely limited on scale due to it being Dimps and Bandai Namco, but HR is honestly surprisingly rather realized for what it was. Some will say even AL actually kinda had that too.
And frankly, as much as it's just fanservice slop to attract fans to it all, I'd rather stick to the gameverse continuity anyway than have more Fairy Dance or proper Alicization. The anime actively makes me hate half of the series for how poorly adapted it was, the gameverse just sorta slips right by all that by doing its own stories.
