Swordhaven: Iron Conspiracy

Demo out for Kickstarter Infinity Engine clone from Atom RPG devs. Classless skill-based system, turn-based or RTWP combat. Looks like BG1 aesthetics recreated in a 3d engine.
Anyone tried the demo? I played it for a bit and the gameplay seems to mainly revolve around painting in giant maps.

        >found role-playing part to be lacking though
        That's disappointing.

Just a lack of dialogue options, interaction outcomes, or a bit of both?

How do people feel about 'fluff' responses in dialogue? Like, multiple options that just lead to the same outcome?

That's pretty much my feeling. This isn't really like the games they claim to have modeled it after at all. You start the game with a fetch quest to deliver a non-descript amulet and then wander around in a generic world full of uninteresting people and extremely boring combat encounters, with extremely limited character progression. Feels like its made for people who jerk off over speech checks mostly, the type where the game just feels like its playing itself on its own as an expression of the character you created. If this was not a demo I would have refunded by now.

yeah it's rather basic, especially the combat
the balance is also really shit

the salamander creatures dodge my attacks several times and my guy takes up a whole turn just to do one attack

Played it graphics are nice the setting is more interesting then atom. Shame the gameplay is bad. Did a charisma character made it to first town attack a pig infinite loop pig running away uninstalled.

From what I see the game is going to be really painful playing a non combat focused character with all the critters everywhere maybe better with real time once that is added cause the turn based is pointless waste of time.

Pretty much tbh, I am an rpg junkie who doesn't need every game to be a masterpiece. I mean there are maybe a dozen masterpieces in the history of WRPGs, it's unreasonable to expect that level for every release. If the devs are shitting out two or three Expeditions Vikings or Tyranny tier 7/10 rpgs every year I'm happy and the genre is in a good place for me.

Did they learn that players want to play as male characters and have female companions or is the party roster another gay sausage fest? It's moronic how the Atom games were designed with extreme favoritism for female protagonists that want to prostitute their bodies out to men to solve quests. Some weirdo autogynephilia shit going on there. Pic related, the average Atom RPG fan.

I mean, it's understandable, but a lot of their previous audience/fanbase (up to 40-50% judging by Steam reviews) was Russian, so they're kind of painting a huge target on their backs.

I have now played 15 hours trying out various builds and am ready to render my judgment. T:

As far as i could figure out, spears are considered two-handed weapons and therefore you can't use a shield with them. If true, this is fricking cringe, and needs to be rectified immediately. In general, melee characters should be able to equip their primary weapon + javelins, because as things are now, every enemy encounter is the exact same.

      >combat starts
      >put your melee characters in the front and skip their turn
      >shoot enemies with your ranged characters
      >enemy charges at your frontline, wasting all their AP
      >attack until they die
Yeah, your melee dudes being able to toss javelins wouldn't break the monotony that much, but at least i'd have a reason to pump points into ranged on melee characters and actually use throwing weapons, instead of immediately unloading that shit on the nearest vendor in exchange for arrows/bolts for the dedicated ranged characters. There are some balancing issues, like mauls giving 5% parry chance but greatswords giving 2% dodge chance (???), while one handed swords have a level 1 skill that gives you fricking 50% parry, while being able to use shields.

Everything else is 5/5 - breddy good as far as i'm concerned. I like the writing, i like the lore, i like the world. Will drop money on the kickstarter, if i have some left over at the end of the month.
