SwSh (+ DLC) is a much better game than SV (+ DLC) or XY.

SwSh (+ DLC) is a much better game than SV (+ DLC) or XY. SwSh just gets over-hated because it was the first to make the Dex Cut. That's basically the only reason why the game has a bad reputation here. Personally the Dex Cut never bothered me because I never transfer Pokemon from one generation to the next. I only use Pokémon that can be caught in each game anyway. But SwSh has a lot of positives that people usually don't talk about.
>A good region with a nice atmosphere
>2 Fantastic DLCs
>Very good new Pokemon, with badass designs like Drednaw and G-max Charizard and cute designs like Wooloo
>interesting human characters
>The best trainer customization in the series sofar
>Fun features like making your own league card, camping, making curry, etc
>Great soundtrack
>A gimmick (D-max/G-max) much better than Z-moves or Terastalization

The DLCs are good because they do everything the base game doesn't. The villain plot drags down the the charming cast and region itself is a series of mindless corridors with little to no side content. You go to a city and do the gym. SV second dlc can edge it out if it has decent battle facilities. SwSh DLC battle formats got old quick

      >SV second dlc can edge it out if it has decent battle facilities
SV didn't have any Battle Facility in the base game, and no battle facility in the Teal Mask DLC. What makes you think that the second DLC will be any different?

SwSh had a Battle Tower in the base game, and then one more Battle Facility in each DLC.

You’re counting Galarian Star Tournament as a battle facility?
Then shouldn’t Academy Ace Tournament count too?

          >You’re counting Galarian Star Tournament as a battle facility?
No, I'm not counting the Galarian Star Tournament as a battle facility. I was counting the Battle mode in Isle of Armor and the Max Raid Facility in Crown Tundra.

Sword & Shield, even with the DLC, is garbage, because Galar is a terrible region and the DLC does nothing to improve the base game.

Not like Emerald or Platinum did anthing besides the meme frontiers and worse stories. Hell platinum even added more roadblocks. SwSh already had a good regional dex that didnt need a new game scam to patch them in

Emerald added a bunch. It changed trainer parties, gym layouts, made an entirely new overworld tileset, added the ability for multiple trainers to create a double battle if they both see you at the same time, let you catch all 3 box legends, and some abilities did stuff in the overworld.

That would explain the hate boner. I just played it for the first time very recently and was surprised to find it was a lot of fun, but I don't know the meta reasons that I'm supposed to hate it.

SwSh + DLC is a very fun game in my opinion. I will admit that base SwSh is a bit bare bones, but that's just not the full game, without the DLC.

You're supposed to hate it because of the Dex Cut apparently, but what some people here fail to understand, is that the Dex Cut was going to happen anyway. SwSh just took the weight of the first ever Dex Cut on its shoulders, and I think the game deserves extra credit for that.

Sword & Shield cut the dex, but didn't offer anything substantial in return.

I don't know what were you expecting in return, other than a fun Pokémon game.

            >a fun Pokémon game.
That would have been a good start. Sword & Shield were insulting. I knew it was going to be bad when they gave me an Escape Rope as a key item, and the first dungeon(of two) had a layout like this.

Galar is definitely linear (not counting the Wild Area, Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra). But that doesn't make the game any less fun.

Not really. SwSh has a lot of strengths that compensate for Galar's linearity. Some of them are listed in the OP.

                >SwSh has a lot of strengths that compensate for Galar's linearit

I didn't say "strengths regarding its linearity" but "strengths to compensate for its linearity".

It’s a bad video game and one of the worst “RPGs” on the Switch, but Pokémon fans are so throughly domesticated by their corporate masters, they can no longer tell the difference between quality and blind love. I still have standards, tho. You can’t fool me. The fact that you’re even discussing DLC (implying you bought it) for a broken game suggests lowered mental faculties. Seek help.

Every Pokemon game has some glitches, especially near release. This doesn't make SwSh any more "broken" than any other Pokemon game, imo.

    >SwSh (+ DLC) is a much better game than SV (+ DLC)
God i fricking wish. Galar as a region is such massive wasted potential.
I mean, you make a region based on the UK and instead of having a plot revolving around stonehenge and some kind of mystery you turn it into a half assed pokemon?
And what about the other landmarks? They could have made an explorable big ben but no.
And let's not forget how worthless Dynamax was as a gimmick because it could only be used in select locations
    Megas? Anywhere
    Z moves? Anywhere
    Tera? Anywhere
    Dynamax? Practically story only.
And the disturbing lack of minigames in general give it a low amount of replayability. Like, I like battling but holy shit, give me some variety.

Oh and another thing the raids were the absolute worst in SS. Sure people complain about SV's but SS was even fricking worse having every move happen one by one and having only one player Dynamax at a time which can result in someone losing their chance to do it was abysmal.

    >A good region with a nice atmosphere
I do like how the towns look, but Lumiose City alone has more actual depth to it than Galar.

Wild Area would be nice idea, but they admitted it was a late addition and it shows.

For me, SwSh (always including the DLC) is a good solid Pokémon game. Not as good as the best games (Emerald, Platinum, HGSS, BW2) but better than most games.

SV on the other hand doesn't even have a Battle Tower clone so it's very low on my list. The Indigo Disk could change that, but it's very unlikely.

    >A gimmick (D-max/G-max) much better than Z-moves or Terastalization
I really liked kaiju Pokemon and Dynamax/Gigantamax is my second favorite gimmick but it was extremely underused compared both past gimmicks and the next gimmick.
Only Kanto Pokemon, Garbodor and Galar Pokemon got Gigantamax forms and regular Dynamax was only useable in select locations.

      Anonymous

I agree that maybe Dynamax/G-max should have been useable everywhere and not only in select locations. But I think there were plenty of locations where it was useable. And more importantly it was available at Battle Facilities.

also g-max moves are almost always worse than the generic max moves everyone gets, making the new forms completely pointless.

I would like SV more, if it had some Battle Facilities, but the game doesn't even have a basic Battle Tower. I hope the Indigo Disk DLC might change that, considering that Blueberry Academy is supposed to be battle oriented, but idk.
