Symmetrical sticks simply make more sense.

Symmetrical sticks simply make more sense. In a 3d game, most of the time your thumb will rest on the other stick by default for camera controls, whereas your thumbs will always be on just the buttons in a 2d game. Having your thumbs be asymmetrical for most of the time is just moronic.

Not really. If symmetry even mattered then you would prefer asymmetrical stick placement because your thumbs would remain symmetrical. But symmetry doesn't matter and the left stick should go in the primary position because it is used 99% of the time.

      >primary position
heres where most of you morons get it wrong.
The top left isn't the "primary" position on dual stick controllers, its actually in between the d-pad and the joystick.

This is only true in FPS. In a third person game you have one hand on the stick for movement and the other hand on the buttons for actions. Who the frick is playing FPS on a console lmao

Please list some games from the past 5 years that don't require you to constantly move back and forth between the face buttons and the right stick that also have you using the left stick as movement (2d platformers don't count since the Dpad is superior for those)

        >constantly move back and forth between the face buttons and the right stick
But that's the thing. Almost every game but competitive first person shooters have you moving from stick to buttons constantly, which is why idgaf where the right stick or button are placed. Left stick is non negotiable.

Left stick being lower feels better to me than being higher, but I hold my controller with my hands more at an angle than parallel

That's because sony controllers force you to hold your controller at shitty angles and you just got used to it

but when i casually lay my hands in my lap they are tilted at an angle and not parallel?
Seems like Sony is a more natural angle then.
Reminds me of those "natural" keyboards that are curved.

Those curved keyboards are actually much more comfortable if you type in the standard home row style, but nobody really does anymore unless they went to school for typing.

And while that's ergonomic for a unibody controller, it is ultimately always better to be able to naturally adjust your posture and position to be slightly different at will. Keeping the same pose indefinitely, even an ergonomic pose, is bad for you.

Having two analog sticks does not make sense.
The right analog stick is most frequently used for camera and cursor control, it does not make sense for this to be an input with a deadzone or a true neutral that it returns to, and the amount of variation you have in analog stick input is just too small to get a decent amount of accuracy or snappiness.
You would be much better off with a touchpad, rather than a right analog stick. You can swipe from one arbitrary point to another at many speeds, haptic feedback can emulate trackball feedback and there is no deadzone. Gyro input can then supplement that input further.

Ultimately as long as you rely on just an analog stick you can't get much better than camera control for a 3D platformer or for a game with Z-targeting, unless you want the game to handle a lot of the input for you (character snapping to enemies or objects when you hit context sensitive prompts, bullet magnetism/aim assist) and deliberately introduce a lot of slow segments that allow the player to line up their cursor with an object (cover based shooting, ADS, stealth segments, slow motion). The reliance on the analog stick naturally led to the moviegame, simply because the game was already playing itself to accommodate it in games it was unsuited for.

For what it's worth the second stick was originally there for vehicle controls, which it is admittedly much less used for since they put in those analog triggers that make almost every game in any other genre worse.

Wii U pro is the best by far. Clawing with the stick above the face buttons is extremely intuitive - clawing a stick is much more natural than clawing face buttons. If you still use thumb for both right stick and buttons I am so sorry. Back buttons are also good though.

Not even just that. You go to these custom controller shops like scuf and NONE of them offer hall effect joysticks as an option despite charging upwards of 500$ for a controller.

    >because you use those buttons mo-
No you don't. Any 3D game that would warrant an analog stick being used as a primary control also requires your right finger to be constantly on the right stick so you can control the camera, while all action is done with the trigger buttons, and the face buttons are only used for secondary inputs.

Imo symmetrical sucks ass for me.
Since I only use controller for Racing games and souls stuff, I rarely use camera controlls.
And having thumbstick-facebuttons at same height is perfect for me.
