The system bazaar is open for business.
Have a nice setting, but nothing to run it in? Looking to just try something new for a change of pace? Finally finish up that long-running campaign of yours or maybe you need to throw together a short adventure, but can't decide what you want your next game to be in?
We'll help ya, stranger. Or at the very least, show ya some good stuff
Provide detailed descriptions, don't just request but also recommend, and don't be a c**t. Hehe.
GURPS
No and stay no.
This should be the default answer to everything. GURPS can easily do anything. Is it the best at everything? No. Can any other system do what GURPS can do? Maybe HERO but otherwise, no.
Precisely because it is *not* the best at *anything* is why GURPS shouldn't be the default answer. Yes, you can always settle for pointswank character creation and splatbook hell, but why would you do that as your first choice? Have some fricking dignity and use the right tool for the job instead of using a multitool to chop down a tree.
GURPS is the best for running a realistic low fantasy game with in depth and crunchy combat.
No, that's Mythras. Try again though!
Yes, GURPS can do anything poorly and therefore it should never be the answer to this question. Everytime some anon pipes in with "GURPS can do that!", it is the absolutely least useful contribution possible, because everyone already knows that GURPS can do anything and that it will suck at it, and therefore it is at best a universal last resort.
GURPS is good at a lot of stuff, I see you are a meme addicted secondary with no experience with the system
>why would I have experience with a system that i've seen memes of saying it's bad
lol; lmao even.
>lot of stuff
>names nothing
Is GURPS the mythical Canadian girlfriend of games?
>generic unsubstantiated arguments
>strawmen
>projecting
Damn, you sure make a compelling argument.
>"No!"
The dying cry of a man with no arguments.
I made a list of magical girl systems for my own potential personal use. So far I've read Princess: the Hopeful, OVA, Savage Worlds, Battle Century G, and one of Ewan Cluney’s systems. Are there any I should take out or add to the list?
Christ there really isn't anything, is there?
Well, I got
>Disaster/PEACE (thought that's Blades in the Dark, so take it as you will).
>Puella Magi Madoka Magica: The RPG (Fanmade, jank)
>SPARKS (Pain)
>The Excellents (but that's a game for actual children).
Christ almighty there has to be something else, right?
Depending on how you are doing magical girls maybe
>Maid
>Shinobigami
>Nechronica the Long Long Sequel
Same guy. Quick update. I added Mutants and Masterminds to the ignore pile. While it’s objectively a good system, it just seems like an autism nightmare to use as a magical girl game (as opposed to a supers game).
And why exactly is that? I’ve never played that system, what exactly is the issue?
I'm looking for a low to mid fantasy that isn't OSR, 5e, Conan or WFRP/Zweihander. Is there anything out there my dudes? Hoping for medium crunch.
...does Mausritter count? Otherwise, the only things I can think of off the top of my head are Pathfinder and Savage World's fantasy supplement
Dungeon Fantasy Roleplaying Game is GURPS but pared down 90% to only the rules relevant to the genre. Has some solid supplements from Douglas Cole and is more-or-less compatible with other gamebooks/more complicated GURPS rules.
gotcha anon
Mythras
And though the core rulebook is phenomenal by itself and gives you everything you need for the game and to make it your own
Be sure to pick up some supplements such as
classic fantasy as even if you don’t want to run CF you can put the juicy content to good use
Symbaroum, although the way some rules are written is moronic
Okay, what are these rules? And how would you fix them?
I can suggest Legend Quest, it fits low to mid fantasy quite well, it has a semi realistic approach. You use "fatigue" as health and a resource to fight, move quickly and cast spells or maintain magical effects. If you're exhausted then your hp gets lowered and it's about as dangerous as getting stabbed IRL. It has an armor system based around reducing damage and durability. Characters are built around a skill system which allows for a lot of customization and the system allows for a lot of actions and options outside of combat (crafting etc)
Spell casters don't spam spells but they have a lot of control over each spell and can customize their effects (range, aoe, duration etc)
It's a tad more on the realistic side, which is great for low to mid fantasy themes imo but it's a bit crunchy (to setup, not so much in actual play)
Where does one . . Find this legend quest.
Probably the PDF share thread, I'd suggest the IRC
Mithras (setting neutral), Harnmaster (both neutral and setting specific), Chivalry and Sorcery, Ars Magica
Palladium Fantasy.
I need a Harry Potter system to run for my nieces. Preferably not Powered By The Apocalypse or very granular. Thanks.
Tu es un sorcier.
Just gotta speak French.
I'll give it a shot. My written french is better than my spoken by a pretty fair margin.
Troika with the Academies of the Arcane chapbook is exactly this, although depending on their age you will want to filter some of the content. It's not PbtA, but uses 2d6 with a flexible skill system.
What’s a good system for a Secret Saturdays game? If it helps it’s in the same setting as Ben 10, and focuses on the titular family as they travel the world protecting cryptids. The son Zak can control them to a degree, and they fight against the villainous Argost, who wishes to find Kur, an ancient cryptid of godlike power.
Any recommendations on a monster-hunter styled system? I want to run a game where players are hunters that battle big monsters with similarly over-the-top big weapons, with said weapons determining the majority of the hunter's abilities. I was thinking of pulling it off with just a quick Monster Of The Week hack with some added crunch using weapon classes as playbooks—as my players really like PBtA systems now after finishing a City of Mist game—but I'm not sure if a more concrete combat-focused game with girds or something might be a better fit. So, any games that are tailored for or do BIG FRICKING MONSTER COMBAT well that I should check out?
Based OP, I love these threads! Speaking of, what would you suggest for the requests from the last thread that never got answered? And what advice do you have for matching settings to non-GURPS systems on one’s own?
