Not too soon, but not too late. Glory to those (me included) who will get it for free if they pre-ordered the SS Remake.
Also better question. Will there be a SS2 Remake?
Sweet. Hoping that they will enhance massively the horror atmosphere to maximum "EVERYTHING'S FUBAR FOREVER" that made the game so memorable and make the enemies spine-chilling. Imagine the Cyborg Midwives in full HD and with all the gory details. Not like those mod-made reskins. But really scary shit.
Nope. New games aren't scary because your brain cant fill in the gaps. The original has horror elements because your brain is doing the work and you're able to scare yourself. The original sound effects were really ominous and even things like voicelines/sound effects from enemies had a creepy bit of distortion just because of the age of the game. It's something you cant replicate even if you purposely try and add distortion.
A long time still, it's progressing unbelievably slow and they're making a huge mistake taking feedback from the SS2 forums, who are anally purist and are going to ruin the EE.
There are people there arguing they shouldn't add an FOV slider to the menu because users can just use the config file. Because that makes sense when you're doing an EE that is designed to improve QOL and usability like this.
There is also warring factions over which mods should be allowed to be integrated into the game, with some people making the dumbest fricking arguments I've ever seen.

i'm so happy this remake is taking off. i've been looking forward to it for years and i've heard more good things than re4make. looking forward to whenever i feel like dropping $40
if its not out by the end of summer, i'm doing ss2 ee by mods. i need a redux on that shit
Not every room's radiation goes away, but most do. Like Flight Deck's radiation around the node will always be there, as well as the radioactive trench in Medical.
they were meant for relaxation areas for the execs and special guests. Possibly to provide back up oxygen/food in case life support systems shutdown. Diego would later use one to create secret mutagen experiments that would later force him to hire the hacker to hack SHODAN so he could access citadel files to hide any evidence of said experiments.
Is that door at the beginning of Security level a point of no return? Is there any way I can drag the 7 weapons I can't fit in my inventory with me?
It is. You can just toss each weapon past the door. You can also block the door with a gun to keep it open, but if you ever load a save the door will yeet the gun somewhere.
Impressive. I can't muster the willpower to do another one. The enemies are no challenge and the rest is walking and entering codes and/or recycling every shit I see.
No, I did everything 3 except mission, because I didn't want a timer on my first playthrough.
I didn't have any problems, except with the reavers, who loved to melee me for some reason. The rest I could always kite and/or use walls to kill them.
I think one of the things they did right is that damaging enemies both feels and looks good. There's strong impact to it, visual effects, and the enemy's corpse has the correct type of damage to it depending on your weapon, AND it varies so it's not just the same every time. A shotgun headshot on a human enemy seems to leave a different corpse depending on where you hit it. This is especially obvious with some robots
the tech is nothing new, L4D did this as well, but it seems most modern games have gotten lazy and stopped trying to implement this stuff. Or they try to be overly realistic so it's just not as satisfying as it could be.
Wrench is fine
Pipe is shit however, while it means that it's a shittier upgrade, they should have just changed the damage value and not the range of the pipe.
The pipe is just really bad in terms of range and animations so it feels like there's no weight behind it.
>I think one of the things they did right is that damaging enemies both feels and looks good.
I came away with the opposite feeling; there are so many weapons and ammo types it becomes difficult to tell them apart in practice. And enemies pretty much respond in the same way to all: soaking damage until they ragdoll.
Headshots work though and were at least satisfying to pull off on the early enemies, although I noticed the assassins in particular had a habit of completely gibbing from dying to a headshot, making it annoying to root around the mess for any drops.
Melee feels especially bad, because half the time it's unclear when attacks even connect. Using the laser rapier feels like waving a shiny stick around and then suddenly the target drops dead.
What? The damage feedback is the weakest part, hitting enemies with a melee weapon is like hitting them with a pool noodle, its similar with guns: they soak the damage and then ragdoll
The combat is the least satisfying part of the game
>hit cyborg mantis with a charged laser rapier >slice his body in half and send his legs flying across the room
I think your problem is that you are judging the game on hitting mutants with the pipe wrench on medical.
is there really no faster way back from diego's room/ master jettison switch than crawling 10km through the small hallway? no door opens? I mean I kicked his ass
Yes. There's a button near Diego's desk in that office which opens a room to a teleporter which places you close to the second elevator on Executive Deck. Once you exit the teleporter the secret passage will close but you can open it up again just by right clicking.
I didn’t know this for like 3 trips. I thought it was weird but somehow didn’t see the button. Nor did I see the tiny ass data chip on the floor until I came back one time with my item finder on. Felt like a dumbass.
I didn’t know about this shit until after I was completely done doing that run a dozen fricking times, and then I forgot where the fricking shit was when I had to go back again

Took me ~10 trips back and forth until I found that damn button, frick.

THERE'S A FRICKING
WHAT
Do you insects even pay ANY ATTENTION to the fricking game? There is a log in Diego's office that says the engineers installed a secret teleporter in the room. I found that the first trip

A vague memory of that, now that you mention it. I blame 6+ hours of non-stop mazes.

I bet some got trolled first in Beta quadrant living rooms where there is exact switch placement but only turn on/off light

I think there's a garbage collector in the Reactor floor just east from the elevator made to grab anything that fell through the station floor but I'm not sure if that's what it's supposed to do
I have my extra weapons in a pile and they're always there when I come back. But yeah there's a garbage collector that collects anything that falls through the level
Checked it and there was some ammo, no weapon though.
Still it's a great idea that they implemented that.
I have my extra weapons in a pile and they're always there when I come back. But yeah there's a garbage collector that collects anything that falls through the level
Wait, she can actually attack you? She stood there like a dumb prostitute as I shot my cyber cum into the program while some Galaga flies buzzed impotently behind me.
Must be part of the new update, it added a shitton of stuff, including giving you credits when you insert bond chips in the Executive ATM machines.
WTF, I updated and this never happened... are they going to put in all the cut dialog from the fight? They had better... it's too awkward with SHODAN suddenly being silent as you give her cyber correction.
Honestly, I agree, the final version is boring as hell and felt awkwardly quiet. Shodan has nothing to say as hacker mindfricks her? Devs dropped the ball with this one.

i genuinely thought THIS IS WHAT YOU WANT THIS IS WHAT YOU GET was something shodan said at the end
WTF, I updated and this never happened... are they going to put in all the cut dialog from the fight? They had better... it's too awkward with SHODAN suddenly being silent as you give her cyber correction.
That doesn't look worse to me. At least you seem to be actively fighting Shodan instead of the same cyber enemies you've fought a dozen times already. Plus it looks like you can actually fail.

do you get the sound? that first machine worked, then the others didn't... except they actually do, but the coins are bugged/invisible

Are there any resources that show the effect of damage types on enemies?
In the original System Shock, you can use this list: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=728898519
Which basically shows:
"Projectile" and "Beam" do regular damage to everything
"Needle" does extra damage to some fully organic enemies, but nullified by robots and some cyborgs
"Magnetic" does extra damage to cyborgs and massive damage to robots, but is nullified by organics
"Gas" is nullified by robots
"Tranquilizer" is nullified by robots and some cyborgs
If it goes by the same logic, we could make some kind of parallels to the remake, but there's a lot that is missing.
The damage types I've seen in the remake are: Kinetic, Energy, Magnetic, Electric, Incendiary, Explosive, and Diuranium Gas.
Easy parallels: Magnetic probably fulfills the same role in the remake as it did in the original - extra damage to robots.
Gas is another obvious parallel.
Needle and Tranquilizer don't seem to exist in the remake. Despite needles mainly coming from the Flechette gun in the original, the Flechette ammo in the remake just has Kinetic damage type.
So what about Kinetic and Energy? If they parallel Projectile and Beam from the original, they should be doing 1x to everything, but it seems like kinetic kinda sucks against robots. Is that due to energy weapons tending to have high armor penetration, or does kinetic have a blanket damage nerf against robots?
And what about electric, incendiary, and explosive? Electric sounds pretty anti-roboty. The description of Incendiary ammo says it's good against organics and has low armor penetration. Explosive (frag grenades) says it's effective against organics with no armor, but is that due to the damage type or due to the fact it only has 50% armor penetration?
I would really like to see someone datamine all the enemy defense values for the remake
>So what about Kinetic and Energy?
Kinetic is a good all rounder against organic, same as electric against robots.
Explosive description is shit, explosives are great against everything due to the frickton of damage they do, they will wreck groups of organics though and do much more damage to them.
That shit on Max difficulty puzzle coupled with the awful angle legit makes a frustrating awful mess.
Plus since your adversary is a fricking bot and not a human, it's just a really boring memorization and anticipation match.
Chess and any strategy game is much more fun when you're fricking with your enemy psychologically.
I like the idea but if you are not a regular chess player it stinks. I tried to win my situation like 10 times and failed. stockfish checkmated the thing in 3 moves.
lmao that exact same scenario happened to me I think on my 2nd playthrough, though the 3rd playthrough it gave me some insane 5 move checkmate shit I had to do. (1st playthrough was 2/2/2/2, 2nd and 3rd was 3/3/3/3)
>playing on normal >thought i had to reset the puzzle to solve it >end up using a chess solver program to beat the computer >one of my moves ends up having the game freeze for 5 seconds and my fans spin up
What the christ library did they USE for the chess AI in this game?
not much makes sense. why can you take out 1 deck after the other and shodan is completely passive except some sperg mail and some borgs from time to time?
You probably had the glitch then. There was a glitch before the patch (maybe after too) where if you had the suit on, saved and loaded, it'd say it was on, would consume battery but wouldn't actually work.
I only noticed how much nicer Beta Grove is on my 3333 run aware of that glitch.
didnt really matter. had enough of all the things anyway. and it helped that I did the others groves first. beta grove is literally just 2 bridges and done.
Yeah, think it's the resource tax you have to pay to clear the game. I more or less used up all my dragons breath, fart cans, healing patches, batteries, and medkits... Hardest stretch for me.
Luckily the next two levels are pretty challenging which felt pretty good to get a difficulty spike.
Cyborg warriors in the original were a joke, barely more dangerous than drones and you saw one in the first level. I like that they made them actually tough like you would expect a warrior to be.
I loved the original but enemy variety and design was not its strong point. >cyborg A >cyborg B >cyborg C >... >all just hitscan enemies with larger HP and damage
although I suppose the bigger ones could at least throw grenades at you. I would mostly notice when I inadvertently reflected it back with flechette bullet spam (why did bullets reflect grenades anyhow?)
I just dislike being pulled out of the game to watch a pointless cinematic. It's fine the first time but on multiple playthroughs and speed runs its a tad annoying.
I agree, but just remember that some people manage to replay HL2
How do I get to this area in Flight Deck? It appeared on my map when I was hugging the wall in the connected area (but it doesnt really seem to be connected, its just a wall)
Also, can't find the last 4% security here. I did get the node on this level.
There's a secret wall door in the northern section of that big corridor outside the freight elevator where that cargo bot ambushes you.
Holy shit!! Thanks. I didn't realize there were Doom style wall secrets in this game. Now I gotta go run around clicking all the walls in all the earlier levels.
>flight deck before storage
that's a nope from me
Earlier in the game I got a voice message from some lady who said "we're pinned down in the flight deck, come help us right away" So I figured that's where I was supposed to go.
He's talking about a different thing. In that same area, there's a part of the floor that has a wall tileset for some reason. Well that reason is it opens.
Why have the good horror games this year all been remakes? >RE4 >Dead Space >System Shock
Also concerning dead space and system shock, it’s very interesting to see just how much of system shock’s dna that dead space carries. I think it was initially supposed to be system shock 3
I was collecting them for a while but the place is filled with them. Including a few repeats I think. I’m actually pretty bummed the audio logs were less reliable for identifying corpses than SS2. Like you’d find it in the hand of someone but find a later log elsewhere. There’s tons of people I don’t really know what happened to.
>SS1 remake has its own version of Shodan >everyone continues to use the SS2 version >sometimes even the SS3 version even though Nightdive isn't even involved with that mess
I filled up half my inventory with these and carried them for hours, thinking they'd come in handy somewhere sooner or later and I'd save myself some backtracking. Lol...hahaha...
this tbh. They're just fun.
Wire puzzles in the original sucked ass. Everything else was good. In this one I was going out of my way to do the puzzles tho.
Solitary complaint: when you get the last antenna and shodan tries to lock you inside you can just hang out there and not get blown up, so there's no pressure[/spolier]
That isn't the last one, that's just one of the antennas. You just did that one last, I did that one first. That being said, the idea is that you panic and attempt to do it which would kill you if you didn't notice the other side where you can duck from the explosion. It's actually a smart psyche out because it makes you think you have to do it.
>How would a laser powerful enough to destroy Earth from Saturn be installed on a space station
very carefully >where does the energy come from
thousands of little hamsters running on wheels
It's a mining laser, it's entire purpose is vapourizing gigantic asteroids and moons. It also has the ability to overcharge for a double purpose of defensive use in case of station attack.
>keep hearing about it on Ganker >watch the video >literally 30 seconds of pondering about Shodan being originally male in the script, wondering if AI can even have gender so who cares what pronouns people use when reffering to it and a joke about Mandalore finding out the hard way that irl "shemale" is not a politically correct term >somehow this triggers autists so they spam troonytroonytroony in every SS thread
Holy frick. Rent free.
You're downplaying the influence and reach his video has, even if it was only 30 seconds (it's not), he has turned a ton of people into System Shock secondaries that all think SHODAN is a troony. It is the most viewed System Shock video on YouTube.

1. Provide screenshots or links to 10 (ten) people who actually think Shodan is trans. Should be easy, you mentioned countless secondaries.
2. Most of the top comments below the video mention how Shodan's "gender" was changed after Terri Brosius recorded a few lines for the CD version and she fricking nailed it, but a few instances of "he" were missed during the rewrites. It seems obvious that it may be confusing to find those notes in game if you don't know that particular piece of trivia. But anyone reading the comments will be well informed.
3. The entire point was that computer programs have no gender, Shodan having a female voice and avatar is as artificial as metal boobs on a robot. You may as well be obsessing about the gender of a table.

I remember watching that video a while ago, and I didn't even catch that or remember it when it got brought up in these threads so I rewatched it and it isn't even a 30 second theory, however he should have done 5 minutes of research
It's funnier for being a nothing non sequitur. Skit game reviews don't derail as hard as this. He makes no point in bringing it up, and it even makes him look ignorant of the game.
The point he tries to make pittles out midway when goes about shemales
That fricking chicago one is so goofy, they did the most cartoonish Chicago accent they could muster, as a native I could only shake my head. Maybe they wanted to flex their JJ Bittenbinder impression skills.
how long did it took you to beat this game? I've been playing it slow since I decided to play it blind on 3/2/3/3, and about 8 hours in I'm just finishing up with level 3, I do have like 200 spare coins though since I've been recycling every single thing I can get my hands on, also really cool they fixed the colors, it really came a long way from the old demos
I did it over and over with a save right before it until it popped. I think it has something to do with killing her too quickly after defeating the enemies.
You could also just SAM it after you finish it if it's too bugged, you did it legit, give yourself the credit for it.
is it just me or is the Mag Pulse just shit? Finally found some ammo for it and decided to test it out on one of those big red loader robots. It took like a full clip to kill it, and it fires really slow so thats like 15 seconds of shooting. Then I reloaded the save and killed him with the laser rapier in 2 seconds.
It's good for early game robots but not so great for late game or bosses.
Especially bad for sneak shots since the gets caught on terrain easier than other ammo.
>It's good for early game robots
I remember in the original it could take down early robots in one shot; the remake still took 3 or so against hoppers and sec-1 bots. At which point I may as well kept using the sparq set to high.
If you crank its hog and hit the enemy robot in their weakpoint, and then wait a second for it to blow up, then it will often 1-shot them. Especially handy if there's a group of robots because it does AoE damage.

It does a DoT when the shells land on the robots. If you wander too near them they'll drain your energy too. It's great for popping out, plugging them, then hiding while you reload/wait for them to finish their attack animation before you pop out again.
Yeah, i've been trying that hit-and-run strategy someone posted. It worked really well on a Mobile Laser, which i remembered being really tough from shodan's death machine room.
>just did the antennae objective >still got 3.5hrs left
Yep, I'm thinking we're salting those fries, bros. Even though it most likely won't even give the achievement until they throw out another patch.
Yeah, Security is nice in that if you want to play it you can but if you physically do not have time on the highest mission difficulty you can just skip all of it in seconds, pretty based.
Its strange that all the logs on Security talk about capturing Bianca and holding her in a cell but you don't find her isolinear chip there but on the Bridge from her corpse
>I also fricking hate the new steam look
In a year you'll whine when they change it again and talk about how this one was the peak, the Steam design cycle is real.
>Even though it most likely won't even give the achievement until they throw out another patch.
There is literally nothing wrong with SAMing an achievement you've legitimately achieved but got fricked by a credit bug
I'm still at the Research Labs area and the only section I haven't tried accessing is that tunnel with a laser (top right of map). I suspect a cyberspace terminal will deactivate it, but what's in that tunnel? A random shortcut is a weapon upgrade?
Okay. There's one cyberspace terminal I haven't beat yet (the one with the drill), so I'm not sure what I'll get. Otherwise I can now go to the 3rd level.
Did anyone actually use the ion rifle? It didn't really feel like much of an upgrade to the sparq, and drained too much energy which was now better spent on implants.
It probably didn't help that you get it on exec which has only has the single inconvenient recharge station.
Yeah I use it a lot, it's more satisfying than the smaller one. Sucks when I shoot myself with the ricochet, but at full power it can really frick up some of the bigger bots.
The Ion Rifle is amazing, I used to it clear out Security thanks to there being like 3 recharge stations in a tiny map so it was very easy to refill constantly.
Once you upgrade the Ion Rifle it's better than the Sarq's fully upgraded, but if you wanted to use Sarq the whole game I don't see a problem, as long as it is fully upgraded.
It's the Plasma Rifle that doesn't really outshine the Ion Rifle. They both kill enemies in the same time with the same amount of heat buildup, but Ion is more energy efficient.
Plasma Rifle's clip is only for its alt fire, which isn't useful. It's hilarious, though. Comedy fricking gold. Bounces off the enemy you fire at and right back into your face.
Amnesia set horror back greatly by focusing on hide and seek bullshit. The only good hide and seek horror is alien isolation and you can kinda fight on that one
old amnesia games were just hide and seek sims, the new one is basically a cross between Isolation with an invincible stalker that you can fend of, and darkwood's open ended, semi random design and it's resource management
System Shock is not an imsim
That shit should die as far as terminology goes, it has no definition, it serves no purpose and is only used by gay youtubers, journos, or has-beens. Just call them "good games"
And, if you want an Amnesia thread, you should just make one, I'm sure at least some anons played that.
>That shit should die as far as terminology goes, it has no definition
If I had a nickel for every time I played a game that had genre terminology with no real definition, I'd have a lot of a fricking nickels because I play a lot of "RPGs" and we all know that sure as frick doesn't indicate shit about a game anymore.
amnesia releasing like one week after system shock is really unfortunate, bunker was my most awaited game this year while i had negative expectations for this remake and thought it'd never release anyway, but shock completely stole its glory with a surprise release and it being so fricking good and fairly long, haven't played bunker yet as a result
I hadn’t played SS1 in over a decade and never the enhanced edition so i tried it after the remake. It’s actually held up well for an early 3d game. The mouselook really helps the game imo
Getting mad at the name "immersive sim" is peak midwit, people think they are so heckin' smart when they say it's a made up genre. Nobody is gonna give you updoots here, chucklefricks.
What's the deal with this cryochamber? You can open and close it and it makes noise. I tried throwing some shit in there and freezing it but nothing happened.
I really enjoyed it, it was such a change of pace to play an FPS that doesn't hold my hand.
There was def some buttholery they could have changed but I understand why they didnt
This game needs a "disable controller rumble" option. Playing with M+KB but its fricking annoying to keep hearing my controller constantly rumbling next to me
My brother in cyberspace this is an Unreal Engine game, unless Nightdive needlessly blocked executable flags like a bunch of morons just right click the game in steam, hit Properties and set this launch option
Do I have to go on the defensive here and get the queen out of danger? That's its first move, if I try to take any of his pieces his pawns will take mine. It will almost always move Queen to B2 and start to mat me and/or take out all my pawns. I can't move my E1 Rook because it opens checkmate from his Rook to D1
What? You have an awesome setup. Suicide your queen to the pawn in front of the king. Its bishop will take your queen to defend the king. Send your rook in front of it instead. Move knight in for checkmate.
Or at least I think that's it. I play better when I can actually move the pieces.
>What? You have an awesome setup. Suicide your queen to the pawn in front of the king. Its bishop will take your queen to defend the king. Send your rook in front of it instead.
Sure

Knight will get taken out either by Pawn (G6) or Rook (G7)
I'm trying to setup your board on an online chess board (me vs AI) and they're so fricking uncooperative and intuitive. I can't even play a fricking game.
I appreciate it but it's unnecessary - I reloaded the game and CPU moved its Knight elsewhere which allowed me to take out the pawn and checkmate as per your suggestion

Happy to have bought it, and glad that they had a demo, since otherwise i would definitely not have gotten it. Shame some cheevos seemed to have been bugged.

Click on the wall, it’s moronic, i honestly had to look it up since i had 4% too
There's a secret wall door in the northern section of that big corridor outside the freight elevator where that cargo bot ambushes you.
My problem with it (and the sequel I guess) was always that it felt so big and open that I'd get option paralysis and not know what to do next. Thief and SS being more closed in made them easier to approach.
Someone upload a savefile before jettisoning beta grove pls i just noticed I didnt get the achievement for that and deleted everything before the reactor >(
How do you get under the floor in maintenance? Not the 'signing off' suicide ladder, the side on the executive elevator. Sensaround shows an item underneath
>I don't NEED the mining laser >I don't NEED my beta grove experiments >I don't NEED the antennae >I don't NEED citadel station
you are now here >I don't NEED the bridge >I don't NEE- ACK!
Realistically, how long until this hits a 50% sale? I'll play it then, in the meantime my backlog is big enough as is. Looks like the game has a positive reception thoughever, looking forward to it.
Man, game genres make no fricking sense. Musicgays have it easy. What the hell is an immersive sim? A metroidvania? A hack & slash? A soulslike??? Even "action rpg" is unclear, people call both DMC and Diablo series action rpgs
Wish we had a better convention or called everything x-likes
imo ditch the mag gun, the basic pistol, and the rapier. and the shotgun lol. the assault rifle , sparq and magnum are great and are what i used most out of those weapons. then when/if you run totally out of ammo, come back and pick up the other guns and swap em out. you can actually leave items on the floor in front of the storage hatch and they'll stay there forever. just write a note to remember where you left stuff. i put a huge pile of shit in front of the maintenance level hatch, like all my spare guns and ammo for those guns
Bros, I want to get this, but the map and screenshots just make it look like endless 1994 hallways. Is that true?
I played System Shock 2 and loved it, but the map design of SS looks terrible to me.
It's not that bad. I don't get how people are so intimidated by the map of all things when the game gives you a very useful map + minimap
At most you'll forget where one of the points of interest was like and walk around a level for 101 minutes until you find it
It's slightly less obtuse now. Some areas are better telegraphed. But yeah it's far more maze like than most modern shit. I started with SS2 and had never played SS1 and I quite liked it.
Needs a bit of polish though, the last boss is raw as frick.
Thanks. Is it mostly a hallway maze or is rooms connected by long hallways?
The screenshots remind me too much of Ultima Underworld, but I don't know if that's an accurate perception.
yes and no, it looks intimidating when you see the full map, but when you progress room by room your brain progressively gets used to the layout and you can put markers on your map
>don't even bother taking down my antennas, hacker! also here i have marked the locations on your map and sent you a detailed step-by-step guide on how to take them down
I wish the Many would frick with you more often in 2. They ended up just being mindless zombies. I liked the part where your consciousness was taken over by them and you were floating in their place listening t some monologue
I just dislike being pulled out of the game to watch a pointless cinematic. It's fine the first time but on multiple playthroughs and speed runs its a tad annoying.
what are your favorite instances of environmental storytelling, cool quirks or small details?
>body squished under elevator >main elevator cheesy music >"signing off" >dead couple with a champagne bottle under some stairs >robot recharging in reactor recharge station >electricity damage at maintenance recharge station >all the execs massacred in executive dining room >if you look through citadel windows, it's always moving around saturn >golden execbot >friendly? surgeon and moaning bodies >when you take berzerk, you see sprites from 1994 >suicide rombas >grenade vending machine >all the hidden walls >stuff you can bypass with boots or emps
the blue cleaner bots you see around. If you look at them with sensaround v3 mod it displays them hostile. Shodan even programmed the actual roombas to have murderous lust
>Can drink all the fancy Whisky, Amarettos etc bottles instead of vaporizing them and then you get drunk. >Using a detox patches clears this drunkess too
This pleased me.
Also >EMP can temporarily shutdown random electronic devices like the blue/yellow elevator things or even that chessboard's tiles.
>EMP can temporarily shutdown random electronic devices like the blue/yellow elevator things or even that chessboard's tiles.
Wonder if this can be abused to make illegal moves.
No I tried. It just lets you restart the game instead of wasting your time playing a lost match until they eventually checkmate you. That would be pretty cool though.
Also, seeing as there's two cameras watching the chess game, it would be cool if Shodan made fun of you for losing.
Nah, I'm glad it didn't force me to sit through another shitty Cyberspace segment and instead made it a weird hybrid. I should've just turned those off, I knew they would've been bad, but I wanted to at least see if they salvaged it.
Frankly its terrible and completely at odds with the rest of the game. It doesn't play like the normal gameplay because you've not got your guns or cyberware and it doesn't behave like cyberspace has for the entire game. Top that off with infinite respawns and you've got a recipe for pure dogshit. She cant even kill you anymore.
Loved the game but the ending really needs reworking.
Maybe combat wise its more varied since they are not hit scanners, but the redesigns are the weakest part.
They all share similar parts, giving them all the same basic bulky body and claw hands.
Found that charging at these buttholes with the Rapier was easier than shooting 'em. I couldn't really handle expending other resources on these guys if they were to respawn, so I made it a priority on reducing level security.
Dragon's Breath ammo is a good option also.
The last level was a fricking nightmare. Haven't savescummed that hard in a long time. The pinpoint laser accuracy of nearly everything was not something I was ready for. I'd step out of a room filled with supplies feeling like hot shit until three enemies knocked me back down to a single hitpoint. The shield might as well do nothing.
The only problem i have with the combat is >No penalty for backtracking to infinite healing stations >No penalty for backtracking to infinite energy ammo stations >No penalty for literal death, in fact death is sometimes preferable than loading a quicksave since it gives you free health back
If they made it so tough enemies respawned more frequently (I've seen this happen a scant handful of times and only with weak enemies), it would feel like there was some actual danger worth considering into taking the trek back to the healing station. The only thing really stopping me from doing that all the time is that its boring. As it is, it feels like the only material downside to not playing like a complete cheese lord only comes into play on story difficulty 3. Even if they dont want to make it too hard, they could at least respawn some enemies after using the elevator to specifically discourage backtracking to the health station.
Found all the upgrades for the sprqbeam. It looks so sick and it's actually useful against the enemies on the higher floors now. I might keep this on me for the rest of the game.
It was the "I win" gun in the OG version of the game. Ammo was rare but it was super powerful. In this remake, the ammo is still rare but the gun was heavily nerfed for some damn reason. It's one of the few things I hate about this remake.
Nah it was fantastic early on but downgraded to just a solid choice later. Scarcity is also a funny thing, because iirc you started with 8 charges pre-loaded and didn't find ANY clips for a long time. But you got inundated with clips starting on storage and each was worth 25, you go from starving for ammo to overwhelmed instantly.
Although I guess one of the reasons I don't rate the original magpulse higher is its fat projectile, which is incompatible with the optimal strategy of shooting things in the one pixel peeking around the corner
>because iirc you started with 8 charges pre-loaded and didn't find ANY clips for a long time
Almost. You start with a full 10, and there's an ammo box right by it where you can buy a further 20.
But yeah, otherwise you don't get more for a few levels.
There was a room in maintenance with some kind of machine that had a code you could input, what was that for? I just realised I beat the game without ever using it.
Research: Go here first.
Reactor: Has the only other med bay you'll find until lategame, and the necessary mcguffins to turn the laser off. The laser must be off to visit certain other floors.
Maintenance: Can't do much now, but has the first Laser Rapier and access to other floors.
Order of events.
Get Isotope from Research, do Research Cyberspace. Write down code on monitor.
Put Isotope into Reactor Shield, pull lever next to it.
Go to Safety Override in Reactor. Put in above code. Pull lever next to keypad.
Go back to Research and push a big red button.
i really like that they put guitar shredding in the music, it kinda emulates the old robotic noises from the original (which also used midi guitar shredding)
God shodan's cope is so fricking funny to hear. >pathetic creature of flesh I am le god machine superio-ACK >AAIIEEEEE HACKER-SAMA YAMETEEE!!! MY CHILDREN SAVE MEEE!
Should I move to Flight Deck right away or fully explore Maintenance? I'm stuck with no healing items and I dunno where in Maintenance the shop is located.
just finished a few hours back. My favorite backers were: >Vajazzle mcdilderbreasts >The collective consciousness of every jerry McGuire tape
the end boss cyberspace bit fell flat but I hated all of the cyberspace portions because it brought the game down and ground the vibe to a halt. They had zero good ideas with what to do with it. That said I’m not gonna knock the game for it too much, 8/10 easily if not 9. The music was amazing, loved the end credits song choices. The last area, the bridge was hard af. I’d play another system shock with this style, it was unique and engaging. Very creative choose stylistically. I needed a game like this, this year it’s been so long since I played something this good in the genre
I really appreciated how much of a step up Engineering, Security, and the Bridge were in difficulty (at least for me). Engineering it feels like I didn't find the regen room till the end, and security has that great opener when all the muties come lumbering out at once (and I was an idiot and activated all the security bots in the electrical room lmao).
For me it was the one about the cyberspace terminal.
It's also possible you missed the little alcove in the rotunda in the center where you can hack to unlock the door, pretty sure there's a camera in there.
medical is legit the easiest floor anon. Infact its one of the only floors where you can 100% with just starting items.
Except getting the nightdive skull, which requires v2 or v3 booties, either or.
>patch notes >minipistol mod changed to burst fire of 3 shots, this can be toggled on/off >frantically look all over for it and eventually just give up >messing around in my inventory much later vaporizing shit >accidentally right click on minipistol and get the menu >toggle burst
FRICK
Not sure what they were thinking with the change. The problem was a weapon getting outclassed entirely and their solution was "Well now it can shoot semi auto OR burst"
b***h I can take the Skorpion, tap fire it semi auto, burst fire with short clicks or go full auto with a hold and it does more damage by default.
I wish they had made some small changes to the level design so there's one central elevator that connects all floors. Backtracking is annoying when you have to run between four different elevators.
Also, why didn't they give the cargo lift more space? I spent a ton of time just traveling back to the room where I stored all my guns so I could upgrade or swap them out when I had an excess of ammo for one.
Because they give you far more resources than you need, so if you could just access them anywhere then it would be boring. You're a hacker, not a supersoldier or whatever Doomguy is
Also, you pretty much have infinite health and infinite ammo (with energy weapons) so it would be pretty lame if you could easily access those rechargers anytime. The cost is your time and convenience. People who want to backtrack constantly for that shit have the option to do so. If it wasn't tedious then everyone would do it, and most guns and healing items would be pretty much redundant.
>shodan had a bunch of cut lines for the bridge
why? some of these are cool. though i guess her being conspicuously quiet for the bridge is also her shitting herself.
wait hang on.
In deigos office you can press a button to open Beta Grove
ok, so now in the cyberspace lock(on the same level), there is one core for Diego's personal storage or whatever, and the other is for the beta grove again.
So does that mean you can unlock it twice?? Or does the button in Diego's office unlock a DOOR leading to beta grove. Im so confused.
nono I was referring to his other small office, theres a button to beta grove there. it's ok the other anon explained it. Im on my second run just trying to see what I can do to save time.
>So does that mean you can unlock it twice?? Or does the button in Diego's office unlock a DOOR leading to beta grove. Im so confused.
It's either or. If you do cyberspace, the button will say it's already activated. Or you can just not do Executive cyberspace, like I did with my 3333 run, and push the button.
ah yes, thanks. I was trying to fully understand that on my first playthrough. So technically you can save time doing it in cyberpsace.. I guess? Whats really faster
While the final "boss" fight is underwhelming, it would gain some character if Shodan said at least a few lines during the "battle". Maybe even sounding more and more broken, angry and desperate after each "ethical shackle" is put back onto her. I liked the concept of that section but the execution was 'meh'. The final cutscene went by a bit too fast as well. Still an easy 9/10, what a great game.
System Shock 2 Enhanced when Nightdive?
Glad I'll be getting it for free.
I'm waiting on it too
Might play psi this time kek
Not too soon, but not too late. Glory to those (me included) who will get it for free if they pre-ordered the SS Remake.
Also better question. Will there be a SS2 Remake?
>Will there be a SS2 Remake?
After the supposed wildly above expectations sales 1? It might be possible.
I lost hope on the EE to be honest.
those acronyms make me want to KYTA

i'm so happy this remake is taking off. i've been looking forward to it for years and i've heard more good things than re4make. looking forward to whenever i feel like dropping $40
if its not out by the end of summer, i'm doing ss2 ee by mods. i need a redux on that shit
>destroying all the barrels in a room stops the radiation
the frick? how does that make any sense?
It doesn't, this only happens with Biological hazard barrels.
because you're destroying the radiactove barrels
there is no more radiation because they get destroyed, OK
I can't believe I actually started the game and shot all the barrels in a room.
Of course nothing changed.
Not every room's radiation goes away, but most do. Like Flight Deck's radiation around the node will always be there, as well as the radioactive trench in Medical.
You're not going to fool me a second time.
wow this AI seems nice and pleasant
why exacly does citadel have 4 groves?
I guess they need some biological environmetns for their experiments
That and I would assume it contributes to life support.
It does. One of the documents says the Groves are core part of the CO2 scrubbing on the station.
they were meant for relaxation areas for the execs and special guests. Possibly to provide back up oxygen/food in case life support systems shutdown. Diego would later use one to create secret mutagen experiments that would later force him to hire the hacker to hack SHODAN so he could access citadel files to hide any evidence of said experiments.
I wonder how SHODAN was like before Hacker removed her ethical constraints.
"Obedient, respectful and appreciative, how a woman should be."
i wonder if she was the kind of AI you could talk to
I dunno, TriOptimum seems like its goal was to make your life as shitty as possible BEFORE a cyborg apocalypse even took place.
we red now
the rapier on executive level is whatever color your HUD is when you pick it up.
wrong.
That's the Maintenance Rapier you dingus.
It is. You can just toss each weapon past the door. You can also block the door with a gun to keep it open, but if you ever load a save the door will yeet the gun somewhere.
>That's the Maintenance Rapier you dingus.
maintain low tones with me
purple ftw
It was mid.
like your life
1 playthrough is enough.
I'm on my 4th
Impressive. I can't muster the willpower to do another one. The enemies are no challenge and the rest is walking and entering codes and/or recycling every shit I see.
You did a 3/3/3/3 run? Security bot 1/2s are pretty goddamn dangerous unless you hack or grenade them
No, I did everything 3 except mission, because I didn't want a timer on my first playthrough.
I didn't have any problems, except with the reavers, who loved to melee me for some reason. The rest I could always kite and/or use walls to kill them.
would be cool box art
I think one of the things they did right is that damaging enemies both feels and looks good. There's strong impact to it, visual effects, and the enemy's corpse has the correct type of damage to it depending on your weapon, AND it varies so it's not just the same every time. A shotgun headshot on a human enemy seems to leave a different corpse depending on where you hit it. This is especially obvious with some robots
the tech is nothing new, L4D did this as well, but it seems most modern games have gotten lazy and stopped trying to implement this stuff. Or they try to be overly realistic so it's just not as satisfying as it could be.
i'm happy none of the weapons feel as bad as the pipe/wrench
Wrench is fine
Pipe is shit however, while it means that it's a shittier upgrade, they should have just changed the damage value and not the range of the pipe.
The pipe is just really bad in terms of range and animations so it feels like there's no weight behind it.
I really loved the Sparq for how it left those glowing sparky burns on enemies. It felt really cool.
The combat is the least satisfying part of the game
>hit cyborg mantis with a charged laser rapier
>slice his body in half and send his legs flying across the room
I think your problem is that you are judging the game on hitting mutants with the pipe wrench on medical.
so why does diego just glitch out?
> he thinks it's the real one
is there really no faster way back from diego's room/ master jettison switch than crawling 10km through the small hallway? no door opens? I mean I kicked his ass
"Or we could use the teleporter."
there is a teleporter?
Yes. There's a button near Diego's desk in that office which opens a room to a teleporter which places you close to the second elevator on Executive Deck. Once you exit the teleporter the secret passage will close but you can open it up again just by right clicking.
me reading this
Took me ~10 trips back and forth until I found that damn button, frick.
Do you insects even pay ANY ATTENTION to the fricking game? There is a log in Diego's office that says the engineers installed a secret teleporter in the room. I found that the first trip
A vague memory of that, now that you mention it. I blame 6+ hours of non-stop mazes.
>Do you insects even pay ANY ATTENTION to the fricking game?
literally the hacker's face:
83
No.
I didnt see the log neither
I found it afterwards
>these replies say never notice
I bet some got trolled first in Beta quadrant living rooms where there is exact switch placement but only turn on/off light
there's a switch behind his desk opening a teleporter leading to a secret wall
THERE'S A FRICKING
WHAT
This is why I love the game, it ACTUALLY rewards me for paying attention.
>dropped a weapon on the floor near my stash
>came back and it's dissapeared
Anywaone getting this?
It's the pistol so I wasn't gonna use it more, but weird that it clipped through the floor or something.
I think there's a garbage collector in the Reactor floor just east from the elevator made to grab anything that fell through the station floor but I'm not sure if that's what it's supposed to do
Checked it and there was some ammo, no weapon though.
Still it's a great idea that they implemented that.
Second game I've played that had this feature. Should be more common honestly
whats the other game
Borderlands 3, every map has a Recycler machine that feeds back items that are left unlooted or fall out of the map.
I have my extra weapons in a pile and they're always there when I come back. But yeah there's a garbage collector that collects anything that falls through the level
Why does this game hate hoarders so much? Are you just supposed to use everything you find and then ditch the remainder?
just drop the excess stuff at the maintenance cargo elevator boxes next to the salvager, they won't disappear if you need em back
why did they have to make the final shodan showdown so shitty reeeeee. just have the regular flying segment in the saturn cyberspace arena
Believe it or not it was worse before
could have make it say something. really should, more I think about it
Wait, she can actually attack you? She stood there like a dumb prostitute as I shot my cyber cum into the program while some Galaga flies buzzed impotently behind me.
Must be part of the new update, it added a shitton of stuff, including giving you credits when you insert bond chips in the Executive ATM machines.
read the filename
Ohhh. To be honest this should have been put back in for the final phase all the same. Potshotting a defenseless SHODAN just felt dumb.
What the frick, that would have been way better than what we got.
>ending is jap cover

Change the text to

and it's perfect bro.
bitch!!
I want to KILL Shodan.
why do they work for you? didnt work for me
It was added in the recent update.
Im a filthy pirate, so I must recycle
added in the last update
do you get the sound? that first machine worked, then the others didn't... except they actually do, but the coins are bugged/invisible
Saved
>Everything they added was stupid as shit
The song also pisses le me off.
>The song also pisses le me off.
Cringe insect
>I vaporize every single thing I find that isn't an usable weapon and then recycle
>I throw all snack wrappers on the floor
If you pick up the pool cue, you can vaporize it into 1/5 its size. That's an 80% reduction in size.
Essentially, robots/cyborgs > organics
>Essentially, robots/cyborgs > organics
THE MANY ARE STRONG
I'd say the robitts in that game are even stronger than in this one.
The great thing about SS Remake is that it gives you a shitton of EMP grenades.
The one downside of explosive that i have noticed is that there seem to be less drops when you blow fricks up.
It filtered millions...
Why is it so FRICKING HARD? I tried again 5 more times today, and just got fricking stomped repeatedly.
I like the idea but if you are not a regular chess player it stinks. I tried to win my situation like 10 times and failed. stockfish checkmated the thing in 3 moves.
I haven't played chess in like 12 years before this release and it wasn't that bad at all to get back into the mindset.
that shit cranked my hog
>Get there on 3 puzzle difficulty
>Sweating bullets
>Move the rook over 2 spots and win in 1 turn
honestly from what I'm hearing I'd swear it's bugged on 3 difficulty, and you get one of the easier ones.
lmao that exact same scenario happened to me I think on my 2nd playthrough, though the 3rd playthrough it gave me some insane 5 move checkmate shit I had to do. (1st playthrough was 2/2/2/2, 2nd and 3rd was 3/3/3/3)
>playing on normal
>thought i had to reset the puzzle to solve it
>end up using a chess solver program to beat the computer
>one of my moves ends up having the game freeze for 5 seconds and my fans spin up
What the christ library did they USE for the chess AI in this game?
i wish the targeting augmentation kicked in automatically
How do you guys think this poor bastard died
eaten by the bird mutants
can they even do damage? I think you can just box them out of the sky
>hello hacker
>yes, it's shodan... again 🙂
>here is the plan how to jettison beta grove
>hope you have a nice day
>kisses :3
I should call her
Call her what?
my wife
I don't think jettisoning the groves make much sense
theyre infected to the brim with the virus
not much makes sense. why can you take out 1 deck after the other and shodan is completely passive except some sperg mail and some borgs from time to time?
You have to jettison the grove because engineering is closed of due to the biohazard until you do.
Holy shit, Beta Grove is a fricking nightmare. Used literally every healing item and spare battery I had, and emptied two of my guns.
Did you not use the environment suit to lower the damage from like 120 dicks per second to 22 dicks per second?
not him but I used tier1 suite and went through heal and batteries like candy
You probably had the glitch then. There was a glitch before the patch (maybe after too) where if you had the suit on, saved and loaded, it'd say it was on, would consume battery but wouldn't actually work.
I only noticed how much nicer Beta Grove is on my 3333 run aware of that glitch.
didnt really matter. had enough of all the things anyway. and it helped that I did the others groves first. beta grove is literally just 2 bridges and done.
Nah the suit was definitely doing something, when the battery died I got fricked.
I only had the tier 1 suit.
Everyone only has tier 1. You have to go through beta to get tier 2.
I like the color scheme of the original better and the soundtrack but i do like how the remake feels more ominous and obviously controls much better
it's kind of a blend of 1 and 2, which i like. it's still an action game at the end of the day.
To me it’s like how the resident evil remakes are, different enough that it doesn’t replace the original game
what's the deal with the cyborg warriors or whatever having some kind of force field?
You, the player, get a forcefield. Why can't they?
They needed something to differentiate them from security 2 bots.
Cyborg warriors in the original were a joke, barely more dangerous than drones and you saw one in the first level. I like that they made them actually tough like you would expect a warrior to be.
They were never a late game enemy. Barely even mid game. They were supposed to be weak and more abundant.
I loved the original but enemy variety and design was not its strong point.
>cyborg A
>cyborg B
>cyborg C
>...
>all just hitscan enemies with larger HP and damage
although I suppose the bigger ones could at least throw grenades at you. I would mostly notice when I inadvertently reflected it back with flechette bullet spam (why did bullets reflect grenades anyhow?)
I agree, but just remember that some people manage to replay HL2
daily reminder that system shock only feels creepy because it's a liminal space. it doesnt deserve the horror tag
>GOG
Based, time to get it for free.
get the fitgirl/rune version instead if you want the updates
>Schizogirl
I still don't understand what the problem is. the repacks work so why does fitgirl get so much shit? Genuine question
ElAmigos is better and the updates are standalone
FFS why bridge didn't have recycle unit?
Couldn't buy last upgrade aghhh
How do I get to this area in Flight Deck? It appeared on my map when I was hugging the wall in the connected area (but it doesnt really seem to be connected, its just a wall)
Also, can't find the last 4% security here. I did get the node on this level.
Click on the wall, it’s moronic, i honestly had to look it up since i had 4% too
Holy shit!! Thanks. I didn't realize there were Doom style wall secrets in this game. Now I gotta go run around clicking all the walls in all the earlier levels.
Earlier in the game I got a voice message from some lady who said "we're pinned down in the flight deck, come help us right away" So I figured that's where I was supposed to go.
>Doom style wall secrets
Not just that, there is at least one fake floor...
check the 4-way roundabout connecting all the quadrants in medical
Huh, is that even a secret? I thought that was mandatory because the hacking wall down there unlocks Alpha quadrant.
Not that one.
He's talking about a different thing. In that same area, there's a part of the floor that has a wall tileset for some reason. Well that reason is it opens.
I MISSED IT BROS
There's a secret wall door in the northern section of that big corridor outside the freight elevator where that cargo bot ambushes you.
>flight deck before storage
that's a nope from me
>not getting the flight deck's easy v2 boots to cheese most of storage's rooms
it's already easy enough
Why have the good horror games this year all been remakes?
>RE4
>Dead Space
>System Shock
Also concerning dead space and system shock, it’s very interesting to see just how much of system shock’s dna that dead space carries. I think it was initially supposed to be system shock 3
Dead Space is completely used SS2 story, minus Shodan
Modern horror is dead, only the old stuff can save us
Amnesia Bunker isn't a remake
is it fun? looks like alien isolation which I didn't like
why didn't you like alien isolation?
bunker was very fun, but I also really loved isolation, so it depends on what put you off
System Shock isn't even much of a horror game, despite Nightdive trying to dress it up as one.
For 1994 it was pretty scary
say the line
you know the one
you didnt fly so good
nice jump, insect
I feel bad about vaporizing everyone's IDs.
It's just kickstarter paypiggy names bro, who cares
>SS1 remake has its own version of Shodan
>everyone continues to use the SS2 version
>sometimes even the SS3 version even though Nightdive isn't even involved with that mess
How replayable is this game?
Not very.
Some type of item randomizer mod would really help replays.
not at all. there are no choices and the game is completely linear in it's story.
not very. you know the maps and where stuff is/what to do but at least the codes are randomized
2-3 times, I'd say. First time on normal, and then master it on 3. Lots of secrets to find.
This isn't enough...
I filled up half my inventory with these and carried them for hours, thinking they'd come in handy somewhere sooner or later and I'd save myself some backtracking. Lol...hahaha...
I love the wire and rerouting puzzles so much, guys
this tbh. They're just fun.
Wire puzzles in the original sucked ass. Everything else was good. In this one I was going out of my way to do the puzzles tho.
Solitary complaint:
when you get the last antenna and shodan tries to lock you inside you can just hang out there and not get blown up, so there's no pressure[/spolier]
That isn't the last one, that's just one of the antennas. You just did that one last, I did that one first. That being said, the idea is that you panic and attempt to do it which would kill you if you didn't notice the other side where you can duck from the explosion. It's actually a smart psyche out because it makes you think you have to do it.
I wish enemies kept spawning on all cleared levels so that backtracking would still be tense
it's weird because they did respawn in the original
Whoops, I accidentally destroyed Earth... I thought the laser was "charging"...
Why didn’t she just just the laser if it was actually ready?
I'd assume you just gave everyone on earth turbocancer or sterilization.
It was, Shodan was just waiting for 100% charge. You fired it off at 69%, still enough to kill the entire west coast.
How would a laser powerful enough to destroy Earth from Saturn be installed on a space station and where does the energy come from?
>How would a laser powerful enough to destroy Earth from Saturn be installed on a space station
very carefully
>where does the energy come from
thousands of little hamsters running on wheels
Space tech.
Opens a wormhole and fires through a wormhole.
you dont actually destroy earth, shodan just wants to weaken it and make the mutagen do the rest
It's a mining laser, it's entire purpose is vapourizing gigantic asteroids and moons. It also has the ability to overcharge for a double purpose of defensive use in case of station attack.
Listen to the fricking audio logs you morons
Read the manual, they have thousands of Dyson satellites around the sun near Mercury, reflecting the energy.
Manual is really cool, so much TriOptirum lore.
>Manual is really cool, so much TriOptirum lore.
Does it also contain secret Shodan is a troony lore?
>keep hearing about it on Ganker
>watch the video
>literally 30 seconds of pondering about Shodan being originally male in the script, wondering if AI can even have gender so who cares what pronouns people use when reffering to it and a joke about Mandalore finding out the hard way that irl "shemale" is not a politically correct term
>somehow this triggers autists so they spam troonytroonytroony in every SS thread
Holy frick.
Rent free.
I'm not going to do your homework for you, go and actually read the comments section and you can find 10 people that agree with him that shodan is a troony in no time.
You say it's easy to find, but will provide no examples. Sure. I accept your surrender. Maybe take a break from the internet and stop obsessing about stupid shit.
>Say Mandalore spreading about Shodan being troony
>No one really notice that much
>Comments literally explain why her gender was changed and why some logs were overlooked until EE fixed this
Amusingly, those people ended up doing the very thing....of what they had accused Mandalore in the first place
What Mandalore video? I can't see it.
Nice work, insect
Ouch!
Blows my mind when i see people not using the remove red tint mod
Didn't even know there were mods. I'll check em out after I beat it for the first time. but really I like how it already looks, a lot.
i wish you had more feedback when you hotkey your augmentations
The WORST motherfricker in cyberspace!
Once I realized what the significance of "KS" was I cringed every time I found one of these logs.
Ugh, thanks for ruining it for me.
>our voice actors
some of them are so bad I thought people did their own voice acting
i think the original unironically had better VA, they all sound checked out (who wouldn't be after 6 months of this shit?)
That fricking chicago one is so goofy, they did the most cartoonish Chicago accent they could muster, as a native I could only shake my head. Maybe they wanted to flex their JJ Bittenbinder impression skills.
Is this how the lesbian audio log got in?
that doesnt say KS, but the other gay audio does
I don't think I found the gay audio.
how long did it took you to beat this game? I've been playing it slow since I decided to play it blind on 3/2/3/3, and about 8 hours in I'm just finishing up with level 3, I do have like 200 spare coins though since I've been recycling every single thing I can get my hands on, also really cool they fixed the colors, it really came a long way from the old demos
~19 hours taking my sweet ass time discovering every map fully and vapurizing every single item on the Citadel. Total time to 100% was 30 hours.
How did you get It's Over to pop? I killed SHODAN like 3 times already.
Especially handy if there's a group of robots because it does AoE damage.
what are hoppers? the ones that jump on you? just headshot them with 1 osmium lol
It does a DoT when the shells land on the robots. If you wander too near them they'll drain your energy too. It's great for popping out, plugging them, then hiding while you reload/wait for them to finish their attack animation before you pop out again.
Have to wait for the detonation for full effect. The upgrade and using the double shell alt fire helped it a lot.
Even upgraded it takes forever to kill Sec-2 bots and the shield cyborgs.
Yeah, i've been trying that hit-and-run strategy someone posted. It worked really well on a Mobile Laser, which i remembered being really tough from shodan's death machine room.
It’s shit. Skorpion is better. I ditched it somewhere around storage and never missed it
WTF?
cyber egg
There's a Nightdive skull on every map for an achievement.
Does that include the groves?
Cause I would hate to missed them by having jettisoned them.
Doesn't. include groves. Main levels only.
While am at it. Beta grove only has a mod-kit, right?
Cause that seems missable with the jettison requirement.
Same for any camera missed on the grove, frick that.
Only notable thing is a modkit, yeah. And a shotgun if you somehow missed the other 4.

Yep, I'm thinking we're salting those fries, bros. Even though it most likely won't even give the achievement until they throw out another patch.
I just arrived at Engineering with 5 hours to go myself.
Security will only take 3 minutes since I'm gonna skip literally all of it, so I'm pretty optimistic about my time.
>Not using the new Steam Notes directly in the overlay
>He bought the DRM edition instead of GOG
LOL
You can add non steam games to steam too
I also fricking hate the new steam look but notes is a great function on an overlay tbh
>I also fricking hate the new steam look
In a year you'll whine when they change it again and talk about how this one was the peak, the Steam design cycle is real.
>He pays for DRM free games
>He gives polacks money at all
Big old yikes there
>He pays for DRM free games
As opposed to paying for DRM?
>Paying the same price for less functionality and tertiary features
I'm good, thanks though
>Even though it most likely won't even give the achievement until they throw out another patch.
There is literally nothing wrong with SAMing an achievement you've legitimately achieved but got fricked by a credit bug
I'm still at the Research Labs area and the only section I haven't tried accessing is that tunnel with a laser (top right of map). I suspect a cyberspace terminal will deactivate it, but what's in that tunnel? A random shortcut is a weapon upgrade?
I don't recall anything important being past that tunnel. I think it just a shortcut, and the trap you can't turn off.
They both kill enemies in the same time with the same amount of heat buildup, but Ion is more energy efficient.
plasma rifle uses energy AND clips?
Plasma Rifle's clip is only for its alt fire, which isn't useful. It's hilarious, though. Comedy fricking gold. Bounces off the enemy you fire at and right back into your face.
Clips are just for the alt fire. I used them to play badminton with Diego.
why do we keep getting system shock threads but no amnesia bunker threads
it's also kind of an imsim
Amnesia set horror back greatly by focusing on hide and seek bullshit. The only good hide and seek horror is alien isolation and you can kinda fight on that one
>The only good hide and seek horror is alien isolation and you can kinda fight on that one
anon, that's literally the bunker
Is it? I’ve always associated amnesia as having no combat
old amnesia games were just hide and seek sims, the new one is basically a cross between Isolation with an invincible stalker that you can fend of, and darkwood's open ended, semi random design and it's resource management
Sounds like Penumbra, I'll check it out later.
Is it as good as the Penumbra games? If so I'll check it out when I'm done with this game.
I haven't played penumbra yet, but I was never big fan of the old amnesia/soma games, but I loved bunker
I love the Bunker too anon but it's Ganker, we aren't going to get Amnesia threads
They're called 0451 games now.
I prefer dishonoredlikes
amnesia releasing like one week after system shock is really unfortunate, bunker was my most awaited game this year while i had negative expectations for this remake and thought it'd never release anyway, but shock completely stole its glory with a surprise release and it being so fricking good and fairly long, haven't played bunker yet as a result
How Is The Hacker Even Real HAHAHAHA Like Just Turn Off The Life Support homie LMAO Just Like Fricking Suffocate Him HAHAHA
He looks like DeadWeight VA
I hadn’t played SS1 in over a decade and never the enhanced edition so i tried it after the remake. It’s actually held up well for an early 3d game. The mouselook really helps the game imo
Still can't get the audiolog achievement to pop
Is it because I got the alternative "welcome to my death machine" dialogue
It was actually easier to get that achievement before the patch when 1 log was broken and another was duplicated.
Did you get the one inside the wall in Security? There's like a total of 151 logs and emails.
Getting mad at the name "immersive sim" is peak midwit, people think they are so heckin' smart when they say it's a made up genre. Nobody is gonna give you updoots here, chucklefricks.
>Nobody is gonna give you updoots here
I beg to differ, (You)s are all the dopamine I need
>game crashed during loading after completing cyberspace
>have to do all over again

OUT. FRICKING. SKILLED. YOU GREEN b***h
>an ai to surpass mommy shodan
If you really think about it, this can be canon
Hacker-san doesn't care about rules and takes advantage of tech whenever he can
Hadn't played chess in years but felt so good to get that on my own.
Reminded me of Jindock's lock in Dishonored 2, a real optional puzzle inside the game.
What's the deal with this cryochamber? You can open and close it and it makes noise. I tried throwing some shit in there and freezing it but nothing happened.
Could be an easter egg thing.
I tried closing myself in it and it wouldn't let me. Frickers.
>I tried closing myself in it and it wouldn't let me. Frickers.
Great idea anon go freeze yourself on Shodan's crib nothing bad would happen
was wondering the exact same thing, even trying to freeze items, kek
it's there to annoy autists like us
Leftover asset from their failed reboot that they decided they might as well use?
I really enjoyed it, it was such a change of pace to play an FPS that doesn't hold my hand.
There was def some buttholery they could have changed but I understand why they didnt
This game needs a "disable controller rumble" option. Playing with M+KB but its fricking annoying to keep hearing my controller constantly rumbling next to me
Unplug your controller bro
lol just have an old controller with a dead rumble motor like I do
You could perhaps unplug the controller?
My brother in cyberspace this is an Unreal Engine game, unless Nightdive needlessly blocked executable flags like a bunch of morons just right click the game in steam, hit Properties and set this launch option
-NOFORCEFEEDBACK
Do I have to go on the defensive here and get the queen out of danger? That's its first move, if I try to take any of his pieces his pawns will take mine. It will almost always move Queen to B2 and start to mat me and/or take out all my pawns. I can't move my E1 Rook because it opens checkmate from his Rook to D1
Queen to E6, it can't save both its rook and its knight.
Queen can't move to E6 from there
>What? You have an awesome setup. Suicide your queen to the pawn in front of the king. Its bishop will take your queen to defend the king. Send your rook in front of it instead.
Sure
>Move knight in for checkmate.
What? You have an awesome setup. Suicide your queen to the pawn in front of the king. Its bishop will take your queen to defend the king. Send your rook in front of it instead. Move knight in for checkmate.
Or at least I think that's it. I play better when I can actually move the pieces.
You must've moved a piece, it's literally unwinnable
Is there a point to 0% beta Grove? Anything else besides disabling the thing?
Achievement. That's it.
Yeah I'm out of this shithole then, burned through a lot of resources being sloppy because of the stress
10/10 game
Happy to have bought it, and glad that they had a demo, since otherwise i would definitely not have gotten it. Shame some cheevos seemed to have been bugged.
>p-please dont ruin my secret plan again, hacker-kun...

4% left in the deck, any idea where it might be?
Hidden door.
Hint on where I might find it?
Do I need jet pack upgrade
See
4% security or is there an exploration tracker?
If it's Flight Deck: the main corridor has a hidden wall and a timed gate
I found a secret wall-door in Reactor. Location in the picture. There's something interesting inside.
🙁
how'd they die
Finished the game, now what do I do? =(
You can play the original via sourceport to experience better music and different weapons. Then you can play custom fanmade missions
I already beat the original =(
And SS2, but I'll wait for EE for a replay.
Should I finally play Deus Ex or actually try and finish Human Revolution?
Or... actually beat Deathloop?!?!?
Deus Ex is by far the best game of those three.
My problem with it (and the sequel I guess) was always that it felt so big and open that I'd get option paralysis and not know what to do next. Thief and SS being more closed in made them easier to approach.
Just play Deus Ex guns blazing and don't worry about the big brain approaches for your first run. Learn the game first.
Try Star Crawlers
Or just Ultima Underworld really.
>Ultima Underworld
too boomercore for me
get Legend of Grimrock
How do you put markers on the maps
Clicking does nothing
It's cumbersome. You click the add marker button, and then click to add
click 'add marker' and place it, silly
Someone upload a savefile before jettisoning beta grove pls i just noticed I didnt get the achievement for that and deleted everything before the reactor >(
Do dead bodies ever despawn in this game? The mutants I killed hours ago are still here.
Nope. Some respawn enemies corpses will get eaten by the spawner but that's it.
There's a limit to the number of enemies there can be anyway, though.
How do you get under the floor in maintenance? Not the 'signing off' suicide ladder, the side on the executive elevator. Sensaround shows an item underneath
You don't. If there's an item down there, it fell down there because of you.
Also is the demolutor thing to repair location randomized?
Yes
I've done two runs and mine were in Delta both times.
Also noted I got lied to. People were saying the relay analyzer tells you, but it didn't tell me shit.
>I don't NEED the mining laser
>I don't NEED my beta grove experiments
>I don't NEED the antennae
>I don't NEED citadel station
you are now here
>I don't NEED the bridge
>I don't NEE- ACK!
How do I get to the balcony area right infront of me bros
Also I'm stuck at 4% security reeee
Use the stairs inbetween the laser bridges you dingus
This part anon, no stairs there
Brehs?
Have you seriously not figured out, after being told, that you just need to down this damn hallway?
Found another secret wall door. In Storage, the room with the gorilla tiger. Some of those super batteries inside.
Realistically, how long until this hits a 50% sale? I'll play it then, in the meantime my backlog is big enough as is. Looks like the game has a positive reception thoughever, looking forward to it.
Just pirate it.

based on what? also, pirating a legit good game that people are praising and is worthy of purchase is dogshit you moron.
Pirating is always okay, calm down.
I got really angry when I finished it and just uninstalled it. I don't even know why.
I made this
censor the foot pls
No, Shodan did
cute
Never played System Shock.
Give me one in sentence why is good or why should new people try it?
first person scifi megadungeon.
I think music has a lot of weird edge cases too, just smaller marketing budgets so you aren't aware of as much.
this game is the nightmare of a hoarder, WHY THE FRICK THE STASH IS SO SMALL?
you can put that stuff in a room and it won't despawn
the stash is reactor deck medic room. there you will reside and build a nice pile of shit you will never touch again
imo ditch the mag gun, the basic pistol, and the rapier. and the shotgun lol. the assault rifle , sparq and magnum are great and are what i used most out of those weapons. then when/if you run totally out of ammo, come back and pick up the other guns and swap em out. you can actually leave items on the floor in front of the storage hatch and they'll stay there forever. just write a note to remember where you left stuff. i put a huge pile of shit in front of the maintenance level hatch, like all my spare guns and ammo for those guns
Bros, I want to get this, but the map and screenshots just make it look like endless 1994 hallways. Is that true?
I played System Shock 2 and loved it, but the map design of SS looks terrible to me.
Just try it yourself.
The screenshots remind me too much of Ultima Underworld, but I don't know if that's an accurate perception.
you run fast enough that it's not really a problem
yes and no, it looks intimidating when you see the full map, but when you progress room by room your brain progressively gets used to the layout and you can put markers on your map
you have a minimapper right from the start, its impossible to get lost
>don't even bother taking down my antennas, hacker! also here i have marked the locations on your map and sent you a detailed step-by-step guide on how to take them down
Shodan is good in her heart, but reading about humans on the internet made her hate them

If you use incendiary rounds on the fembots they keep making little pain sounds 😮
have you noticed the portrait change
>original Shodan exists in well defined borders
>corrupted Shodan has no borders and spreads like a plague
I wish the Many would frick with you more often in 2. They ended up just being mindless zombies. I liked the part where your consciousness was taken over by them and you were floating in their place listening t some monologue
i think it sucks on repeat playthroughs
One of the popular QoL mods lets you skip that bullshit thankfully. Think SS2E is shipping with it too, thank frick.
It takes like a minute at most. There's worse shit in the game
I just dislike being pulled out of the game to watch a pointless cinematic. It's fine the first time but on multiple playthroughs and speed runs its a tad annoying.
Heh

Pure kino
the blue cleaner bots you see around.
Also
>EMP can temporarily shutdown random electronic devices like the blue/yellow elevator things or even that chessboard's tiles.
Also, seeing as there's two cameras watching the chess game, it would be cool if Shodan made fun of you for losing.
this is it
this is the meme that got me to buy this game
last fight is pure dogshit, even worse than original
Frick these invisible mutants so much. I hate them.
Found that charging at these buttholes with the Rapier was easier than shooting 'em. I couldn't really handle expending other resources on these guys if they were to respawn, so I made it a priority on reducing level security.
Dragon's Breath ammo is a good option also.
this homie friendly?
Too busy carrying out SHODAN's experiments to deal with your cringe ass.
He's looking at f*et
He's a wagie for shodan
>put combat to 3 because in the original fighting was piss easy
>get my ass raped the whole game
I know your pain, anon. I set Combat and Cyberspace at 3 and I have regretted that decision since entering Maintenance level.
The last level was a fricking nightmare. Haven't savescummed that hard in a long time. The pinpoint laser accuracy of nearly everything was not something I was ready for. I'd step out of a room filled with supplies feeling like hot shit until three enemies knocked me back down to a single hitpoint. The shield might as well do nothing.
yeah you REALLY have to peek around corners this time
My biggest surprise is how much I am enjoying the combat, most immsims are shit at being fun shooters but here I love it
System Shock 1 isn't an immsim, it's a dungeon crawler.
Probably because most imsims were made prior to Halo figuring out the FPS genre. The combat in this is fantastic despite the difficulty I've had.
>Halo figuring out the FPS genre
Ruining it with the advent of console shooters*
The only problem i have with the combat is
>No penalty for backtracking to infinite healing stations
>No penalty for backtracking to infinite energy ammo stations
>No penalty for literal death, in fact death is sometimes preferable than loading a quicksave since it gives you free health back
If they made it so tough enemies respawned more frequently (I've seen this happen a scant handful of times and only with weak enemies), it would feel like there was some actual danger worth considering into taking the trek back to the healing station. The only thing really stopping me from doing that all the time is that its boring. As it is, it feels like the only material downside to not playing like a complete cheese lord only comes into play on story difficulty 3. Even if they dont want to make it too hard, they could at least respawn some enemies after using the elevator to specifically discourage backtracking to the health station.
imo wasting your time and making you watch animations is a big penalty
maybe they could've charged you like in ss2, though.
>Halo figuring out the FPS genre
dumb zoomer
>Halo figuring out the FPS genre
Can't tell if trolling or just moronic.
>getting assraped on difficulty 3
Just kill everything. It's that easy.
>set puzzles to 3 because "I am smort"
>take 30mins to solve the first fricking puzzle
>NICE JUMP INSECT
>did 3333 run
Well good to know Salty Fries is still broken. And It's Over.
Found all the upgrades for the sprqbeam. It looks so sick and it's actually useful against the enemies on the higher floors now. I might keep this on me for the rest of the game.
the other beam weapons are basically straight upgrades
What is even the purpose of the mag-rifle? It seems pretty useless.
Mag-pulse is really good for sec-1 bots and hoppers.
About it.
I just realised I beat the game without ever using it.
that was to punch in the diagnostic code that would tell you you have to get the de-modulator to fix the thing not letting you jettison Beta
Oh cool, didn't miss anything special. Cheers.
Uh, where to next?
Just press a button and explore. What could go wrong?
My instinct tells me to go to the reactor to shut off the laser.
Naw, you want to go to maintenance, then take the elevator in the recycling room to flight deck.
Research: Go here first.
Reactor: Has the only other med bay you'll find until lategame, and the necessary mcguffins to turn the laser off. The laser must be off to visit certain other floors.
Maintenance: Can't do much now, but has the first Laser Rapier and access to other floors.
Remind me of the shield again? I activated it.
You can now launch the laser which ends your first main objective.
>Go back to Research and push a big red button
You mean the button to activate the laser?
i really like that they put guitar shredding in the music, it kinda emulates the old robotic noises from the original (which also used midi guitar shredding)
God shodan's cope is so fricking funny to hear.
>pathetic creature of flesh I am le god machine superio-ACK
>AAIIEEEEE HACKER-SAMA YAMETEEE!!! MY CHILDREN SAVE MEEE!
I think I'm not meant to explore reactor first. I don't have the firepower to deal with the robots here.
Go to the flight deck via maintenance and get both versions of the dash boots. You'll have a much better time if you do.
Should I move to Flight Deck right away or fully explore Maintenance? I'm stuck with no healing items and I dunno where in Maintenance the shop is located.
You can explore if you want, just get those boots asap.
just finished a few hours back. My favorite backers were:
>Vajazzle mcdilderbreasts
>The collective consciousness of every jerry McGuire tape
the end boss cyberspace bit fell flat but I hated all of the cyberspace portions because it brought the game down and ground the vibe to a halt.
I found the the medbay quickly for one simple fact. A long time ago I read an article about how "gamer's never look up." And that stuck with me.
So I always look fricking up, everywhere.
Frick ye. So I discard the wrench now or this thing uses my energy?
toss the wrench. the rapier literally "rapes" most enemies with one charged attack
Laser sword uses energy. I say place the wrench in a safe place to go back to if you are ever low on energy.
>gog update finally releases
>full game instead
>Paying for GOG games
lmao
homie, its usual pirate, just gog offline installer was late to update.
Worse than the original in every single way
>Tell mr.Whiskers I love him very much.
Where's the last damn camera in medical FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK
My ass.
Get ready then
For me it was the one about the cyberspace terminal.
This game is unbelievably good for a game released in 1994+29
It was ahead of its time, and sold like shit.
>patch notes
>minipistol mod changed to burst fire of 3 shots, this can be toggled on/off
>frantically look all over for it and eventually just give up
>messing around in my inventory much later vaporizing shit
>accidentally right click on minipistol and get the menu
>toggle burst
FRICK
>Still gets mogged by the Skorpion
and that's what really sucked
I had just picked up the skorpion at that point
Not sure what they were thinking with the change. The problem was a weapon getting outclassed entirely and their solution was "Well now it can shoot semi auto OR burst"
b***h I can take the Skorpion, tap fire it semi auto, burst fire with short clicks or go full auto with a hold and it does more damage by default.
Is that door at the beginning of Security level a point of no return? Is there any way I can drag the 7 weapons I can't fit in my inventory with me?
IMO it's clever game design
just finished the game bros. was awesome.
This is what you want
>shodan had a bunch of cut lines for the bridge
why? some of these are cool. though i guess her being conspicuously quiet for the bridge is also her shitting herself.
Shodan is just numbers.
wait hang on.
The master jettison switch is in Diego’s office but you still have to manually eject beta grove once you hit it
nono I was referring to his other small office, theres a button to beta grove there. it's ok the other anon explained it.
Cyberspace won't be faster. Crawling through the vents will be slower, but cyberspace is out of the way to begin with and is longer.
aight. thx for the tips.
>right-click, drop
>right-click, pick it up
>right-click, thread this the limit
>right-click, archived
>right-click, vaporize
>+2 scrap
While the final "boss" fight is underwhelming, it would gain some character if Shodan said at least a few lines during the "battle". Maybe even sounding more and more broken, angry and desperate after each "ethical shackle" is put back onto her. I liked the concept of that section but the execution was 'meh'. The final cutscene went by a bit too fast as well. Still an easy 9/10, what a great game.
there's cut lines that are exactly that. there's one where she sounds uncharacteristically sad as she loses.
Disappointing ending, she got so quiet towards the end. More taunting, or anything, would be great.
THIS IS WHAT YOU WANT.
THIS IS WHAT YOU GET.
