And we lost this Jagged Alliance-like spinoffs route to Bugfestda shite.
Truly the lamest timeline we live in.

Oh frick off. Fallout 3 and New Vegas are great.

You can shit on modern buttthesda all you want though, Fallout is dead now.
Elder Scrolls 6 is going to stink so fricking bad I can feel it.

        >Fallout 3 and New Vegas are great.
New Vegas tried to salvage this trainwreck, but 3, 4, Shelter and 76 placed a big fat turd on classic games worldbuilding.

Hopefully spiritual successors like Nevada or Sonora will keep inspiring people toward it's roots.

            - Crappy unoptimized, buggy engine
            - Press VATS to win
            - Bandit and mutant ridden wasteland 30+ years after F2
            - Dumb civilian NPCs
            - Even dumber BoS and Enclave
            - Forgettable main quest
            - Boring and repetetive side-quests
            - Needs DLCs and mods to not-suck

^^^ all of these things are also true of New Vegas, which you like.

Fallout 3 has amazing quests, with tranquility lane being one of the most clever in the entire franchise. 3 and New Vegas have their share of boring quests, it’s so be expected.

The main quest being forgettable is subjective, I thought it was more than serviceable. The only thing I don’t like is bethesdas obsession with making you “the chosen one”, but F3 definitely did that’s best.

I also don’t think it needs any mods besides the community patch. It’s a very good rpg, I’d go as far as saying one of the best ever.

                >^^^ all of these things are also true of New Vegas, which you like.
Stating that it tried trainwreck salvaging doesn't mean that I liked it.
At the very least it's lore and npcs were more believable than F3.

                >It’s a very good rpg, I’d go as far as saying one of the best ever.
Play more RPGs. F3 is pretty basic in all genres it attempted.

It wasn’t though. It was pretty groundbreaking. There were no open world shooter RPGs before F3. That’s not basic at all and you’re underselling it. It has literally every mechanics F1 and 2 had but in 3D, so if they aren’t basic, why is Fallout 3?

                >best Fallout
                >it's not even a real roleplaying game
Frick that, Fallout and Fallout 2 are kings.

                [...]
The real good time-line is the one where we got the final version of Van Buren.

Eh. CRPGs look better with sprites, the visual language of Van Buren looked pretty dire. I’m sure it would have been an amazing game though.
I think the open world first person model was the way to go, and even the original Fallout devs agree.

                >There were no open world shooter RPGs before F3.
                That's debatable with VtMB existence.

                >It has literally every mechanics F1 and 2 had but in 3D, so if they aren’t basic, why is Fallout 3?
F1 and F2 character building may look intimiadting at first, but is more straightforward than surrounding RPGs. Inventory and combat systems were still unrefined. Tactics spin-off mentioned by OP tried to improve them further.
F3 is at it's core 'TES with guns', with Fallout systems slaped and workarounded on top till they stated wriggling coherently. It was pretty heavily marketed, true, but not groundbreaking.

              >- Bandit and mutant ridden wasteland 30+ years after F2
I don't get this complaint. Once you start setting plots in a rebuilt wasteland, you lose everything that makes Fallout special. The chaos, the freedom, and the loneliness. The wastes are forever. War never changes.

                >The wastes are forever.
Nah, wastes were just the direct aftermath of atomic war. Following Fallouts could explore the problems of rebuilding civilization in increasingly mutating world with wonky technology (i.e. GECK malfunction leading to overgrowth) and power-hungry collectives plundering hidden military installations while being hunted by BoS.

Gay. Now you've gone from Fallout to a generic sci-fi setting. I could not care less about LE FACTIONS. I want wild adventures in the god damn radioactive apocalypse. REEEEEEEE

Since FO2 already had regrowing forests, only some random nuclear winter could somehow prolong the apocalyptic dieselpunk.
Or something ala 'Icewind Dale to Baldurs Gate' could be worked out storywise.

It's a complaint because they keep setting the games hundreds of years after the fact but people are still living in ruins with broken glass and rusty toilets and rubble in every room.
It makes the whole setting a farce.

Nta but fo3 and Bethesda completely fricked the lore for supermutants and the enclave and the brotherhood of steel with fo3 and it's not even good changes. Muties ate moronic Arnold Schwarzenegger clones, the enclave is moronic and so is Colonel autumn, absolutely horrible writing and decisions. The brotherhood of steel was SUPPOSED TO BE DYING OFF NOT BECOME SOME SUPER MARINE CORE OF THE FUTURE SHIT. It's all just bad writing and flips the script, trying to bethesdatize the fallout lore. They separated themselves from California to try and create their own lore but completely fricked everything up instead.

In both F3 and Tactics the local leadership throws the traditions away and changes how things work to combat this.

Poor tactics game and a poor Fallout game. Gets compared to Jagged Alliance 2 but doesn't have any of the underlying mechanics and is poorly balanced overall.
