>take a turn suboptimally
>CPUs turn perfectly always
>stuck in 6th place the rest of the race
what am I missing? I can't qualify for any races with my shit car and I can't make money in the races I do enter because I keep not doing the turns perfectly...

GT games are easy to get stuck in a loop where you have a sub-optimal car, and never surpass anyone. There's objectively better and worse starting cars, with the Supra and RX7's series being some of the best.
Typically you dump more HP into them to just overwhelm the opponents.
>>take a turn suboptimally
>>CPUs turn perfectly always
in 6th place the rest of the race
i never turn perfectly. certainly not not S-curves. what i do is hug the inner curve of a turn, lower speed just enough to not slide out to the edge or go into a spin(~ max 90KM/H on a sharp turn with narrow lanes), and use analog controls(or keyboard) to tap repeatedly on left/right instead of holding left/right button down.
>suboptimal cars
this too. but you can always do arcade mode. or just cheat to get all the money you need.
>worse starting cars
meh. i bet most of the lower-tier races with 2nd hand Honda Accord.the lowest tier of races don't allow "good" cars like Supra. did you really play the game?
This. World of HP
It's easier to re-start and just buy the Supra Twinturbo. The best starting car, and if you Racing mod it can take you most if not all of the game.
Slow down before the turn then try accelerating about halfway through the turn. Or just bang into a guy and ride him through the curve. Havent played 2 in years but i do enjoy gt.
Reduce weight and improve tires before adding any power.
This homie knows, if you have a heavy car just do weight reduction lvl2, racing soft tyres and close transmission if you need it.
Let me guess, you bought an AE86 as your first car

How you are supposed to play GT2:
>get all licenses
>get decent starting car like Civic or Supra or RX7
>go to Sunday cup
>do first race where you'll clearly overwhelm the competition
>invest money in upgrades
>repeat until vehicle can handle the $4000 Sunday cup race
>repeat until vehicle can handle the $5000 Sunday cup race
>repeat to save up money for the vehicles you actually want
How I play GT2:
>use Gameshark cheats to give myself all licenses and 50 million in starting cash
>go buy the vehicles I actually want, tune them up, go racing
I did the former as a younger man when I had a lot more time to invest into grinding the same races over and over again. Never again.
Go watch a video on racing lines, you need to actually learn to race and take the best line through each corner. If your doing it right and using at least a semi decent car you should have no problem beating the AI in GT. But this isn't no sega arcade bs this is a game for people who like cars and motorsport and therefore already understand racecraft/cornering,braking zones etc to a certain extent. Use either the Toyota Sprinter or the Mazda rx7 as your starter car (if I'm remembering correctly).
This, GT2 is pretty easy if you have some cargay knowledge.
The (PAL version at least) physical game came with a pretty thick booklet explaining various concepts, both driving and setup wise. It wasn't needed to play and most of the driving advice is repeated in the licenses anyway, but it gives a good idea about what they had in mind.
Also the only upgrades you really need are weight reduction and slicks, slicks are pretty much broken. Get these two and a solid setup and you can beat the AI 200hp or more under the power ceiling for the race.
Yeah, dumbass kid me poured money into HP upgrades to build a garage of powerful but clunky to drive cars for grinding different events. Slightly less of a dumbass adult me bought racing slicks first and never needed to grind.
The difficulty is supposed to force you to learn what all of the obscure parts and adjustments do and how they can help. It works in that way, but try to keep a little more money than you think you'll need on hand so you don't end up having to grind for small amounts of cash just to try some new part.
I don't know, but somehow GT and Fifa were the games that made me cringe the most
All the losers who had to cope hard were obsessed about these games
I was gaming with my friends because it was fun
But there were those kids who just obsessed with the idea of being a footballer or a professional driver, and they logged thousands of hours into these shitty games
Evolution is a mistery
You probably think about NASCAR, F1 and Colin McRae games. GT was not in the same category and had nothing to do with professional sports.
Nah, I'm an Europoor guy, here it was all about Fifa, GranTurismo, and, later, ISS Pro.
ISS Pro used to be fun and arcade-style on the PS1, in fact those who wanted to have fun played it, while those who were just coping (imagine having to cope at 13) and wanted to pretend they were pro footballers played Fifa.
On PS2 ISS Pro became more similar to Fifa, and most played also that, but that's another story and it reminds me of too many of those 13 year olds that now were 20 and still coping.
I mean, I cope too, but my cope is having fun, not pretending to be a gorilla named Donkey Kong and throw barrels around (I can't even eat too many bananas, they are bad for my hemorroids)
just hug the apex of the turn by slowing down to the right speed that allows you to do so
how come that concept is so hard to grasp for normies
skylines are good starter cars too. I beat most of the events with one.
there are ways to get OP REALLY fast on GT2.
I don't remember exactly how but back then I had a perfect scheme I used to get the Escudo very early on, from then on it's a grindfest because the car carries you really hard
