Dungeon X for sure looks better, I just remember a lot of complaints on how short the battles are.
I meant the PlayStation graphics, but now that I double checked even they actually look better than the SNES ones. I think it's just because the "Tale Phantasia" graphics grew on me and no other version of the game went that route.

I also want this, but not just for the normal expected improvements and adjustments. I would like to see co-op officially added in. My friend and I took turns playing the game and it would be even more enjoyable if there was co-op. Also make Nazamil playable, even if it is done only in the post-game like Future Redeemed did with the catgirl (although there they really fricked up and the girl was in your party but not playable).
Wouldn't even have to do that. Just adjust the camera zoom-in for boost attacks so it doesn't interfere and make it so that boost strikes require both players to press and hold the button, probably with an adjustment so that you don't require a boost strike for the 50% and 0% of bosses so that your co-op partner can't troll you.

I'm emulating Radiant Mythology 3 atm, it's still enjoyable despite showing its age and most characters having a very limited artes list.

Yea I thought it was lame as frick, it was super safe and it only took like 6 hours to beat. It they added new fish to catch or a new mini game maybe it would have been cool but the side content was all fetch quests
NTA. I liked the Nazamil, the story (although it is shorter than I'd like), and the cast interactions in the DLC. I just wish they actually put in additional gameplay elements (playable characters, artes, skill nodes, etc) aside from the few new enemies and 3 new dungeons, especially at the price point it was at. I'm someone who likes the base game's gameplay, so its not that I thought it was bad here, but for a $30 DLC two years from release, I had the expectation that they would do more with it to differentiate the play experience from the base game.
i got really burned out of arise on my first playthrough because i picked harder difficulty. every enemy took so much to kill. never again. normal felt good when i tried it but was too stubborn to change difficulty mid game
Nazamil had to go off because she would get in the way of their love nest.
Btw, they should make if so that Nazamil gets added to the wedding image if you beat the DLC.
Tales of Arise is not a bad game, but holy shit does it drop the ball with it's ending. I really loved the first 60% of the game, up until you finish the "water dungeon" and kill the boss. The combat can be fun, the relationship between the male and female leads is actually quite endearing, 50% of the party members are ok, the other 50% can sometimes be annoying.
The whole "true villain" is actually the other fricking planet is just dumb, and leads to the single worst final dungeon I've seen in a JRPG since FF2. It's a horrendous slog that just copies and pastes the worst bosses from the early game to be enemies. Let alone an ending that actually just doesn't make any sense. Finding out the last slice of bread was actually moldy is less disappointing than the games ending.

The issue though was that, in other media where something like this happens, there is also a figurehead antagonist who takes a major role and for the party to have a give-and-take with i.e. even though the antagonist is yet another pawn or subject of that "evil" force, they seize control for themselves and try to push their own agenda; or they are an anti-hero who tries to deal with the problem in a way that the heroes can't accept. Duke is sort of an example of what I mean (although he's not the best example). I think Vholran unfortunately didn't get enough development or screen time to do this. If he got a good amount of development, I wouldn't care one bit if everything was set in motion by an non-sentient force.
Vholran really feels like a Zagi ballooned to be a major antagonist instead of a boss you can just toss in when you need him. But somehow Zagi appears more often than Vholran and becomes more memorable. Vholran's insanity also just feels kinda artificial where he's the opposite of Alphen for the sake of it. It's really hard for me to actually view him as a major antagonist because of that.

When the new game comes out, the Arise hate will die down. A lot of it is caused by people who didn't like the game having an internal doomer crisis about the series' future. Once the new game comes out, they either will focus their negative attention on that game if they dislike it, or they will not have so much doomer anxiety about Arise like they do now if they end up liking the new game.

Obviously they don't. The two biggest criticism of the battle system are high enemy HP and bosses lacking hitstun. If those two things were addressed, 95% of all battle complaints would be gone because most of the other ones are relatively nitpicks. Neither of those two issues are fundemental to Arise as a battle system. They could come out with a patch tomorrow that changes both of those things and it still would feel like Arise's battle system, just with less people complaining about it.
And the whole irrationality about doomers like yourself is that you fail to recognize that every Tales game changes up the battle system. The next game is not going to take Arise's battle system without changes, assuming it even uses Arise as a base for the battle system at all.
And the same thing about other aspect of the game. You act like "Make a story anon finds bad", "Make a cast anon finds bland", etc is a design philosophy of the game. A game being successful doesn't mean that they are just going to copy the game and make no attempt on address potential flaws with the game. This goes double for Arise which a lot of the weaknesses of the game can be attributed to the game's development being rushed due to COVID.

I didn't play those more than a few minutes, so I can't really comment on them. I can just say that a mage with a selection of 6 spells out of 19 or so feels like absolute ass to play. All the more so with each enemy only having up to one weakness and one resistance.

Spamming Reigning Slash just made random encounters take longer because doing combos speeds up the instant death counter.
The stronger MAs also required you to chain 5 artes in a single chain.

The combat has some appeal, but the lack of enemy variety and attack options really cripple it on top of not being playable in co-op.
The list of its failings just goes on and on though. Quests are also completely unmemorable, cause you just dash from quest marker to quest marker to then fetch or kill something for some random schmuck. They're hardly embedded into the story or world despite them lending themselves to it. There's so much to be done and established after you free each region like establishing a new society or trade, but the game ignores all of it to move on to the next region. It's insane how much wasted potential there is just from that.

Sometimes some games just slip under the radar and sometimes dog shit sells like hot cakes as is the case with Tales of Arise. It is truly bizarre for there to be a SO that is better than its opposing Tales game, Zesteria even got a freebie with SO5.
I unironically think Arise is worse than Zesteria. Zesteria at least tried to do something interesting. Arise was so safe and bland and still managed to be as bad as it was. You could at least excuse Zesteria for failing when taking risks. Arise put on training wheels and still managed to make one of the least functioning Tales games ever released.
I really want to like this game but I got filtered hard by the goddamn lightning boss or whatever. He's literally unbeatable even on Easy. I hate games where you MUST build your party right or else you essentially brick your game, and there's no fricking way I'm re-playing 15 hours just to beat this one homosexual boss
UI design is a lost art in video games unfortunately. I don't even hold it against Arise at this point cause barely any game does it better.
But the way you can customise your strategy is probably one of the better ones in Tales games. Just being able to give characters rough directions is pretty bad. I much prefer the conditionals.

I don't think co-op would be enjoyable with all the "cutscene" type attack animations in Arise.
If they put co-op, they could account for that and make adjustments. It's not an insurmountable dilemma.

Yea I thought it was lame as frick, it was super safe and it only took like 6 hours to beat. It they added new fish to catch or a new mini game maybe it would have been cool but the side content was all fetch quests
NTA. I liked the Nazamil, the story (although it is shorter than I'd like), and the cast interactions in the DLC. I just wish they actually put in additional gameplay elements (playable characters, artes, skill nodes, etc) aside from the few new enemies and 3 new dungeons, especially at the price point it was at. I'm someone who likes the base game's gameplay, so its not that I thought it was bad here, but for a $30 DLC two years from release, I had the expectation that they would do more with it to differentiate the play experience from the base game.
It's a dogshit game and if future entries are anything like it this series is truly dead to me

Tales of Arise is not a bad game, but holy shit does it drop the ball with it's ending. I really loved the first 60% of the game, up until you finish the "water dungeon" and kill the boss. The combat can be fun, the relationship between the male and female leads is actually quite endearing, 50% of the party members are ok, the other 50% can sometimes be annoying.
The whole "true villain" is actually the other fricking planet is just dumb, and leads to the single worst final dungeon I've seen in a JRPG since FF2. It's a horrendous slog that just copies and pastes the worst bosses from the early game to be enemies. Let alone an ending that actually just doesn't make any sense. Finding out the last slice of bread was actually moldy is less disappointing than the games ending.

I actually was fine with that part. I thought it was an interesting concept that the entire conflict sort of happened inadvertently due to some in-universe physics phenomenon gone wrong and that the ultimate "root" cause of the events of the game wasn't some conscientiously evil thing/person.
The issue though was that, in other media where something like this happens, there is also a figurehead antagonist who takes a major role and for the party to have a give-and-take with i.e. even though the antagonist is yet another pawn or subject of that "evil" force, they seize control for themselves and try to push their own agenda; or they are an anti-hero who tries to deal with the problem in a way that the heroes can't accept. Duke is sort of an example of what I mean (although he's not the best example). I think Vholran unfortunately didn't get enough development or screen time to do this. If he got a good amount of development, I wouldn't care one bit if everything was set in motion by an non-sentient force.
Vholran really feels like a Zagi ballooned to be a major antagonist instead of a boss you can just toss in when you need him. But somehow Zagi appears more often than Vholran and becomes more memorable. Vholran's insanity also just feels kinda artificial where he's the opposite of Alphen for the sake of it. It's really hard for me to actually view him as a major antagonist because of that.

When the new game comes out, the Arise hate will die down. A lot of it is caused by people who didn't like the game having an internal doomer crisis about the series' future. Once the new game comes out, they either will focus their negative attention on that game if they dislike it, or they will not have so much doomer anxiety about Arise like they do now if they end up liking the new game.

Obviously they don't. The two biggest criticism of the battle system are high enemy HP and bosses lacking hitstun. If those two things were addressed, 95% of all battle complaints would be gone because most of the other ones are relatively nitpicks. Neither of those two issues are fundemental to Arise as a battle system. They could come out with a patch tomorrow that changes both of those things and it still would feel like Arise's battle system, just with less people complaining about it.
And the whole irrationality about doomers like yourself is that you fail to recognize that every Tales game changes up the battle system. The next game is not going to take Arise's battle system without changes, assuming it even uses Arise as a base for the battle system at all.
And the same thing about other aspect of the game. You act like "Make a story anon finds bad", "Make a cast anon finds bland", etc is a design philosophy of the game. A game being successful doesn't mean that they are just going to copy the game and make no attempt on address potential flaws with the game. This goes double for Arise which a lot of the weaknesses of the game can be attributed to the game's development being rushed due to COVID.

Rinwell also feels like garbage cause the battle system just works against itself for her. And building up a chain to spam advanced spells also feels like shit cause you only have 6 spell slots, so you need to use at least one for a base spell and maybe one for an intermediate. But hold up, if loop through less than four spells, you get punished for being repetitive. Haha get fricked I guess.

I didn't play those more than a few minutes, so I can't really comment on them. I can just say that a mage with a selection of 6 spells out of 19 or so feels like absolute ass to play. All the more so with each enemy only having up to one weakness and one resistance.
Spamming Reigning Slash just made random encounters take longer because doing combos speeds up the instant death counter.
The stronger MAs also required you to chain 5 artes in a single chain.

The combat has some appeal, but the lack of enemy variety and attack options really cripple it on top of not being playable in co-op.
The list of its failings just goes on and on though. Quests are also completely unmemorable, cause you just dash from quest marker to quest marker to then fetch or kill something for some random schmuck. They're hardly embedded into the story or world despite them lending themselves to it. There's so much to be done and established after you free each region like establishing a new society or trade, but the game ignores all of it to move on to the next region. It's insane how much wasted potential there is just from that.

UI design is a lost art in video games unfortunately. I don't even hold it against Arise at this point cause barely any game does it better.
But the way you can customise your strategy is probably one of the better ones in Tales games. Just being able to give characters rough directions is pretty bad. I much prefer the conditionals.
