Arise is mediocre at best. I had way more fun with other ARPGs like NEO, Scarlet Nexus, and Lost Judgement

Between this, Dread, Psychonauts 2, and SMTV looking really promising, 2021 has been an excellent year by modern standards

This. They’re both mechanically creative and fun games. NEO TWEWY I feel excels with its free-form customization while Scarlet Nexus has a really satisfying mix of hack-and-slash gameplay and fun environmental interactions. Plus the SAS system is really cool.
