Don't get me wrong, the content sucks right now, but I think as more people hit the 5+ year mark of their time with the game they're just naturally running out of things to do. The game can only keep you occupied for so long.
Even if they put out a bunch of content, people wouldn't do it. Everyone knows that we'll step foot onto the New World, get some level 91 gear that outshines everything we worked for, and it'll all be for nothing. This is why I mostly just sub during expansions now.

You do realize the "angle" in these patches has been that Y'shtola does cuter stuff around WoL and stares at him/her for no reason, and repeatedly says that reaching the First is not her ultimate destination and she wants to keep adventuring? Not to mention her initial comment in 6.1 comparing Runar to Vrtra as little brother figures. That's the "angle" they've been following for 4 patches now.

Bozja is definitely harder than alliance raids. Not in the regular mechanic of the fights themselves, but due to the fact that you actually need to communicate with people and think by yourself. With alliance raids, you can just follow the pack and press random buttons and you will clear. With shit like CLL or Dalriada you can (but dont always need) to step up and do shit on your own with the Lyon fight and the castrum corridors. Its a great form of social content.
Bozja was terrible. If it was decent people would still do it. Without the relic grind and xp attached to Bozja it would have been dead after everyone went through it once.

Oh if you're a tank then another thing that random tanks never do is grab adds since everyone just wants to tank the biggest thing. Tank swaps don't really happen in normal difficulty fights, but there's a few in the level 60 ones where the main tank just dies if the offtank doesn't provoke after a tankbuster. Hope that people tell you if there's one.
This game is a glorified chatroom with nice minigames and a decent story every few months. Combat content is laughably stale and got increasingly bad. Constant body checks are just them admitting they have no idea how to do engaging content, since DPS checks are completely off the table. Neither is uptime fishing a thing any more.
It's been said before but it doesn't really matter how good Criterion is when the rewards are so shit.
Like, it should drop tomestone upgrade items weekly and you should be able to get a hermetic tomestone every few weeks of doing it to speed up gearing your alt jobs.
Although frankly the savage loot lockout should have ended way before now, what the frick is the point of timegating this late into the tier? Just pissing people off? It's not very casual friendly.
I have been pfing savage since week 1 and I recently got every single raid BiS piece for every job except for weapons of course, and I'm still missing 70% of the tomestone items to complete every job's BiS, plus the upgrades for each one.
They should've definitely made criterion give augment tokens and even tomestone gear tokens on a weekly lookout, it's really imbalanced.
Criterion is poop, regardless of rewards, as it currently it. No one wants to deal sith three EX fights in a row where you have 4 fewer players and less room fir error.

Bruh criterion is pretty forgiving on the body checks, you could have someone die to each mechanic and still raise them in time for the next and still beat the enrage.
Endwalker will be known as the lonely expansion where we lost a lot of players to content drought that never ended up coming back. The repeating of "just unsub and come back bro" statements by the idiots that constantly spout it hurt Endwalker more than it ever did in previous expansions because there was never anything to come back to. Criterion dungeons were a massive failure at retaining any sort of playerbase. Eureka Orthos felt uninspired compared to PotD / HoH. Islands were cool initially until you realized it was just an afk linear spreadsheet simulator.
The only actual good content in Endwalker was the portrait system and Crystalline Conflict.
Stormblood was the undisputed king of content for every single patch and Yoshi shits his pants now being unable to replicate it despite somehow israeliteing his way to getting an extra month of dev time for each patch.
Too many gays that play the game let the story color their impression of the overall experience. I agree the story was kind of ass and the buildup to Othard was paltry compared to Ala Mhigo, but boy was it actually fun to log in and do shit. Ultimates also weren't obnoxiously difficult. SB was when I played the most and it's when jobs still had some interesting whacky shit before all getting lobotomized in the name of balance. It was a good time.

I think alot of people are feeling on EW what alot of others like me (who quit a long time ago) felt with the patch content cycle of the game, and i feel like FF16 helped bringing light to these obvious design issues that plague the game since 2.0, a big 90% of the people that played 16 were fans of 14 to begin with, to be exposed to the obvious problems XIV has but on a single player experience did change their views on the overall other yoshi-p directed game aswell, the content dryness is nothing new, its just that more people are starting to open their eyes to it, both 16 and 14 are games that try to appeal to everyone but fail to grasp a proper audience in the long run.
They really have to do something different with dawntrail, rework the classes, homogenization of gameplay aspects will be this game's final nail in the coffin on the long run.

XIV has been shitting on WoW in the news for like forever. EW did a slight shift towards non-battle content and they smelled blood in the water. Simple as.
Thinking about it, the lack of midcore really is due to the tendency for people to think in extremes and fail to see middle ground. To them content is braindead easy or hard, no in between. Either it's a dungeon boss (1/10 difficulty) or savage tier (8/10+ difficulty). People who breathe ultimates may delusionally start to say "savage is the midcore between easy and hard content," but we can all dismiss that out of hand. In general if you try to show someone 4/10 or 5/10 difficulty content they'll say "oh that might as well be 1/10 difficulty content" and we're right back at the start.

There has to be something that exists between "guaranteed a clear on my first time in the instance with no wipes while drunk and listening to a podcast" (story content, lv90 alliance raids) and "requires multiple hours of prog, likely need to check a guide, and can't clear if there's one slow learner in the party" (extreme and savage)
There is that content is Extreme. You can clear it blind in one lockout with a random pug party. It's the middle ground between brainless dungeons/ally raids and savage.
That's what start of expansion Extremes are for. Zodiark is literally just a punching bag where you can follow the herd on every mechanic with no issue, and Hydaelyn is only marginally harder.

I'm barely through ARR and in ARR post patch, but I had taken time off on MSQ to start leveling some DoL/DoH and before that to get every ARR Job to 50 w/ 1st stage (really 2nd because its easy) Zodiac Relic, but it looks like its going to be near impossible to grind up the Moogle Tomestones for this event without unlocking more content that qualifies in later expansions.
Would anyone have a list of the 10th Tomestone rewards , which are unique, which can be found elsewise and which are the "best values"/hardest to get otherwise?

2.2% of my server engaging with normal raids cleared the hardest ultimate on patch. Under 1% is a grid underestimation considering how long these take.

You've seen multiple good players carry one weaker player through hard content all while wearing better gear and using better food, pots, and sometimes sync stats than the fight was designed for. And even then, a weak link is still detrimental to their own prog. Now inverse that with one or two good players trying to carry six or seven weak players and it's a recipe for disaster.

I did notice, even before Endwalker, that once I'd done all the major content and maxxed out all the jobs, I suddenly had no real reason to continue playing.
Don't get me wrong, the content sucks right now, but I think as more people hit the 5+ year mark of their time with the game they're just naturally running out of things to do. The game can only keep you occupied for so long.
Even if they put out a bunch of content, people wouldn't do it. Everyone knows that we'll step foot onto the New World, get some level 91 gear that outshines everything we worked for, and it'll all be for nothing. This is why I mostly just sub during expansions now.

Bozja is definitely harder than alliance raids. Not in the regular mechanic of the fights themselves, but due to the fact that you actually need to communicate with people and think by yourself. With alliance raids, you can just follow the pack and press random buttons and you will clear. With shit like CLL or Dalriada you can (but dont always need) to step up and do shit on your own with the Lyon fight and the castrum corridors. Its a great form of social content.
Bozja was terrible. If it was decent people would still do it. Without the relic grind and xp attached to Bozja it would have been dead after everyone went through it once.

if you're choosing to do do extremes and up, you should already be competent enough to handle any job at a basic level
there is currently no mismatch between player skill and encounter difficulty (since midcore content doesn't exist) so there is no reason to make jobs simpler
and in the early days of the game you can't even fill up a group because of no one playing tanks or healers, and they don't want that to happen, so they eventually made the changes in latter expansions, even if I don't like how healers play now.

Tank swaps don't really happen in normal difficulty fights, but there's a few in the level 60 ones where the main tank just dies if the offtank doesn't provoke after a tankbuster. Hope that people tell you if there's one.

This game is a glorified chatroom with nice minigames and a decent story every few months. Combat content is laughably stale and got increasingly bad. Constant body checks are just them admitting they have no idea how to do engaging content, since DPS checks are completely off the table. Neither is uptime fishing a thing any more.

I have been pfing savage since week 1 and I recently got every single raid BiS piece for every job except for weapons of course, and I'm still missing 70% of the tomestone items to complete every job's BiS, plus the upgrades for each one.
They should've definitely made criterion give augment tokens and even tomestone gear tokens on a weekly lookout, it's really imbalanced.
Twines and shines is like the minimum, they already have a glam set for the normal, just add stats to them and add that to the criterion.
Criterion is poop, regardless of rewards, as it currently it. No one wants to deal sith three EX fights in a row where you have 4 fewer players and less room fir error.

Endwalker will be known as the lonely expansion where we lost a lot of players to content drought that never ended up coming back. The repeating of "just unsub and come back bro" statements by the idiots that constantly spout it hurt Endwalker more than it ever did in previous expansions because there was never anything to come back to. Criterion dungeons were a massive failure at retaining any sort of playerbase. Eureka Orthos felt uninspired compared to PotD / HoH. Islands were cool initially until you realized it was just an afk linear spreadsheet simulator.
The only actual good content in Endwalker was the portrait system and Crystalline Conflict.
CC patch was one of the best the game has ever received, and then the rest are among the worst. It's amazing really.

I think alot of people are feeling on EW what alot of others like me (who quit a long time ago) felt with the patch content cycle of the game, and i feel like FF16 helped bringing light to these obvious design issues that plague the game since 2.0, a big 90% of the people that played 16 were fans of 14 to begin with, to be exposed to the obvious problems XIV has but on a single player experience did change their views on the overall other yoshi-p directed game aswell, the content dryness is nothing new, its just that more people are starting to open their eyes to it, both 16 and 14 are games that try to appeal to everyone but fail to grasp a proper audience in the long run.
They really have to do something different with dawntrail, rework the classes, homogenization of gameplay aspects will be this game's final nail in the coffin on the long run.

even in ARR I remember people with WoW experience laughing at the rest of the playerbase who screeched at a few jobs being several percentage behind other jobs while WoW specs have their differences measured in double digit numbers

Thinking about it, the lack of midcore really is due to the tendency for people to think in extremes and fail to see middle ground. To them content is braindead easy or hard, no in between. Either it's a dungeon boss (1/10 difficulty) or savage tier (8/10+ difficulty). People who breathe ultimates may delusionally start to say "savage is the midcore between easy and hard content," but we can all dismiss that out of hand. In general if you try to show someone 4/10 or 5/10 difficulty content they'll say "oh that might as well be 1/10 difficulty content" and we're right back at the start.

I'm barely through ARR and in ARR post patch, but I had taken time off on MSQ to start leveling some DoL/DoH and before that to get every ARR Job to 50 w/ 1st stage (really 2nd because its easy) Zodiac Relic, but it looks like its going to be near impossible to grind up the Moogle Tomestones for this event without unlocking more content that qualifies in later expansions.
Would anyone have a list of the 10th Tomestone rewards , which are unique, which can be found elsewise and which are the "best values"/hardest to get otherwise?

Criterion and ultimates should be a one time per expansion deal. They are both hard enough to warrant it. Any more is wasting dev time which should be focused on forrays

2.2% of my server engaging with normal raids cleared the hardest ultimate on patch. Under 1% is a grid underestimation considering how long these take.

RO was an old game, has much better quests than anything out of wow (maybe not legendary quests) or xiv, had extensive customization with many viable builds for each class, had social incentives like War of Emperium, it was 9999999x better and more SOVL than modern MMOs by any stretch of the imagination.

The only reason why you think this is because cause you were young and didnt know how the meta existed (and arguably it was a lot less accessible than it is today). I don’t remember all the bullshit class interactions but I do remember that they released a ton of new professions at around 2008 that powercrept the entire game, but people still used the weaker swordsmen specs like nothing had happened.
the fact there is a meta, means there's off-meta would imply there's a lot of room for customization, even then meta is a context what's the meta for pvp isn't necessarily the meta for PvE, or MVPing
