Sony already announced it with the TLOU live service game spin off they announced at Summer Game Fest. They are already going full tilt with GAAS if they have Naughty Dog (And reportedly Sony Bend) working on a big GAAS game.
This isn't going to pan out btw. GAAS model is not primary market sustainable in the long term.

Shit is not sustainable with franchises because by the time you hit third or fourth number in the series you're alienating new entrants who think you need previous games to understand the series, and even if you specifically state they don't, they still subconsciously believe you do.
And it's not sustainable with GAAS model because there are only 24 hours in a day. If every game is a GAAS, the market becomes fragmented. Because these game demand your constant attention people can't focus on more than one or two at a time, meaning people will ignore the other nine million GAAS titles on the market. GAAS is only sustainable and profitable if there are only a handful of those games in the market, that's why MMOs only have a couple games running the show with the rest popping up and dying over and over. Because if someone is investing 10k hours in FFXIV or WOW they're not very likely to stop that to go frick around in Undying Legacy of Ausperion Sanctum EXTREME, or whatever the frick perfect world entertainment decides to shit out next.
The most consumer-friendly approach is unironically the most profitable. Which is introducing a fresh game to a fresh audience. That's why games like Destiny and Divison, etc... sold so well. Bungie they probably ran the numbers and said it would have made sense to keep them exclusive rather than multiplatform and Bungie disagreed which is likely why MS pulled out from a bid on them. I get both sides of the argument but at the end of the day it's what Bungie wanted that Bungie would get and this Sony deal is what Bungie wanted.

Bungie has barely any technical talent at all, about half of their patches break the servers and all of their patches break something else. There are still bugs that haven't been fixed since Witch queen launch in february.
And their inhouse engine is such a mess of spaghetti code that they had to remove 70% of the game beucase anything new they added broke the entire game. They literally gave up on fixing the engine after multiple rollbacks.

Destiny 1 Age of Triumph (The final version before they stopped updating it) is unironically a great game. It's like 5 years worth of content minus some live event, all integrated into the most up-to-date systems in the game and updated to the highest levels and gear scores so it's all viable and worth playing. That's why Bungie isn't giving it the 60fps patch that a bunch of other live-service games got. Because they know if Destiny 1 wasn't 30fps locked, nobody would play the clusterfrick that was Destiny 2. As it stands D1 has more active players on average than Destiny 2. Like D2 has more concurrent players, but they do less.
I mean they were never going to go back to xbox, the sad thing is that they made a big deal about going independent only to sell out again after only a few years.

Microsoft also wanted to take Bungie fully exclusive to Xbox after Matter (Which is with NetEase publishing, so it's coming to Xbox, PC and Playstation) while Bungie wanted to remain fully multi-platform as part of the deal. MS balked at that. Sony was fine with it because they see Bungo as a stepping stone to help them on the way to their plans for their switch to mostly GAAS games from first party and were willing to pay more than MS. Sony got them because they were willing to pay more and meet Bungies terms.
This isn't going to pan out btw. GAAS model is not primary market sustainable in the long term.

And it's not sustainable with GAAS model because there are only 24 hours in a day. If every game is a GAAS, the market becomes fragmented. Because these game demand your constant attention people can't focus on more than one or two at a time, meaning people will ignore the other nine million GAAS titles on the market. GAAS is only sustainable and profitable if there are only a handful of those games in the market, that's why MMOs only have a couple games running the show with the rest popping up and dying over and over. Because if someone is investing 10k hours in FFXIV or WOW they're not very likely to stop that to go frick around in Undying Legacy of Ausperion Sanctum EXTREME, or whatever the frick perfect world entertainment decides to shit out next.

They did, and they are (very, very slowly) but that doesn't matter when it's Destiny 1 content being played in Destiny 2 - it's just not the same.
So far since they added the vault they've brought back 2 strikes from D1 and 1 raid, and a few crucible maps - only 2 I think? Compare that to how much they've vaulted and it's frick all.
They've vaulted more content from Destiny 2 than there was content in Destiny 1 at this point.
In doing so they've just gone and proven they've made the game wrong. They should have stopped Destiny 2 with Forsaken and made Destiny 3, and then bundled everything in one launcher MCC style and let you pick and choose what you want to play. Destiny 1 would come back to life literally over night if they turned Iron Banner on, that's all they'd have to do, but they won't because they've found they can milk the playerbase with seasonal content released every 4 months - seasonal content that's just reskins of previous seasons that were deleted the year prior.

Activision was the best thing to happen to Bungie, literally the frick are you talking about? They had their highest playercounts by far and the games were actually good. The only thing fricking Bungie is Bungie. Microsoft, Activision, and soon to be Sony all dumped them because they're fricking impossible to work with. One thing that Sony didn't have so far. A studio that has managed to launch and maintain a live service game. They don't want destiny, it was never about that game. It's about the live service platform Bungie spent nearly a decade building and adjusting. You're gonna see the result of the buy in two or three years. Sony already announced it with the TLOU live service game spin off they announced at Summer Game Fest. They are already going full tilt with GAAS if they have Naughty Dog (And reportedly Sony Bend) working on a big GAAS game.

Bungie has barely any technical talent at all, about half of their patches break the servers and all of their patches break something else. There are still bugs that haven't been fixed since Witch queen launch in february.
And their inhouse engine is such a mess of spaghetti code that they had to remove 70% of the game beucase anything new they added broke the entire game. They literally gave up on fixing the engine after multiple rollbacks.

Nintendo hasnt done this because Nintendo has insanely high first party support from it's fans, but MS and Sony have always lagged behind by a significant amount. These two arent going to start pulling games to satisfy childish console wars from 3rd worlders.

Destiny 1 Age of Triumph (The final version before they stopped updating it) is unironically a great game. It's like 5 years worth of content minus some live event, all integrated into the most up-to-date systems in the game and updated to the highest levels and gear scores so it's all viable and worth playing. That's why Bungie isn't giving it the 60fps patch that a bunch of other live-service games got. Because they know if Destiny 1 wasn't 30fps locked, nobody would play the clusterfrick that was Destiny 2. As it stands D1 has more active players on average than Destiny 2. Like D2 has more concurrent players, but they do less.
I dropped Bungie as soon as I played Reach. Don't care, enjoy your skinner box.

Bungie hasnt been good for years. That has been clear since D1 which was bad but had redeeming qualities and high points like the taken king. However, all that good will that was built up during the lifetime of d1 was destroyed when they launched the utter slap in the face that was destiny 2.
