Hmm... maybe the dead zone is too large. What an idiot, typical— OH NO NO NO. 0% dead zone. Bwahahahhahaha, but seriously, it's probably, a software thing that needs fixing.
Does anyone have both this and a Deck? Would love to hear any comparisons. I figure if I'm still using the Deck daily anyway it's probably too soon to upgrade, but I'm excited for the future of the handheld PC format and was curious about this one in particular
stay with your deck, you'll have at least 2x the battery and marginally better performance for some games at the cost of higher latency (wine/proton will unfortunately always incur this latency penalty as a result of the extra software interpretation layer so playing fighting games and rhythm games will always be fruitless n steam deck/steam os)
Ally is better hardware without a doubt. Better screen, better sticks, better performance, better upgrade-ability. It's just better.
Software, which can be improved, isn't quite there right now. But people are playing games right now.
Don't get either because you won't play any games on them after a month.
Why the frick did they think putting the same 40Wh battery the deck has in a device that can pull 50 watts a good idea? Decks biggest complaint was its battery but at the very least it doesnt pull more than 30 watts max. Going to laugh when ASUS sells people a bigger battery replacement in a month.
Batteries take space and there isnt going to be a bigger battery. You need to design a bigger and bulkier device to facilitate it. It'd then weigh more and be less comfy to hold.
You just plug it in and play in your home or train or whatever.
if it's a plug and play device there's a ton of better options including gaming pc + streaming portable device or just your phone with third party controllers
Not really, theres SD, asus rog and some way more expensive chink devices and thats it.
If you're into handheld gaming those 2 are your only real options and you just deal with the limitations.
Handheld implies you can take it with you in your bag into a train and play on the go, or on the bed or the sofa.

you can't use it on the train though because it will be at 0% in 20 mins

What kinda fricking train doesnt have a charging plug for every passenger?

its a great alternative to a laptop if you plan on using it primarily for gaming and saving a few hundred dollars. i like it a lot but i may return it because it was admittedly an impulse buy. i'm not the biggest fan of handheld gaming but its everything i want out of a handheld console honestly. easy to pirate and emulate without having to jailbreak, while also having access to PC games. can't really beat that
i played diablo IV on it for about an hour with the sound on, high brightness, & turbo mode the other day. the only reason i stopped was because it's not as enjoyable as it is on my PC. still runs and looks gorgeous though

This is the conclusion of every handheld purchase of things that can be played on PC.
I bought a $120 RG351V years ago. Neat device, nice looking screen.
I do not play it.
Defeats the purpose of calling it a portable device if it only works, as advertised, when you are anchored to an outlet. I say 'as advertised' because they gave the performance metrics for when its in 30w mode and the battery metrics for when its in 15w mode. They obviously tried to alleviate the battery issue by having it limited to 15w when unplugged but at that point youre spending almost 2x the price of a Steam Deck for similar or worse performance. Other than being easier to lug around in bags and not requiring a stationary table, I don't see the point of getting this over a bit more expensive gaymer laptop if the peak performance away from home is what you want. ASUS put themselves in a weird position and rushing the product out doesnt help. Also >reddit spacing
Bought one and the r trigger cracks when I press it. the other day it stopped clicking altogether but i managed to fix it. every once in a while armory crate glitches and i can't change the tgp. other than that it's been a fantastic device, performance is exactly what I wanted, it's lightweight, buttons feel great and the screen is sharp and bright
it came and went.
I mean it's nice that there's a push for better performance, the Deck v2 is long overdue at this point but they went in the worst possible way with proprietary garbage software that locks basic features, relying on windows, same battery as the deck even while consuming more power resulting in pitiful battery life and overall built using cheap materials
>, the Deck v2 is long overdue at this point
This is why anything pc based isnt going to sell big numbers.
The fricker is just over 1 year old and it already feels outdated, where shit like the switch, which was outdated on day 1, is still going strong in sales(compared to portable pc's).
Pc gamers expect huge jumps every few years and always wait for "the next one", and because they think a next one in a fricking year is normal, people dont really buy the hardware.
If there would be a switch 2, I would think it would last 7 years or so, a deck, maybe 2
i got one and i like it so far. it works with the jsaux 6-in-1 dock so i have it set up as a desktop connected to a mouse, keyboard, and monitor. i can just unplug it if i want to play games
It genuinely feels like they just saw the steam deck's success and decided to jump in with very little planning. Portable PCs were almost entirely made by incredibly specialized companies appealing to an incredibly small niche of gamers. When Valve released the Steam Deck, it's easy to tell how much r&d went into it. Meanwhile, ASUS only really touted the better hardware and "it runs windows" and just by looking at it you can tell that the user experience was merely an afterthought.
If your device lasts less than 6 hours at max load, it's not portable.
It's a small laptop from 2006 with controllers taped onto the sides.
My phone plays games at higher quality and for longer.
NTA but this is accurate
My phone has S8 Gen2 and emulates games better than Deck does including Switch on the new yuzu android port. The chip is simply faster. Deck has an ancient Zen2 chip which is 2019 tech.
It also has an infinitely better OLED display. I got the gamesir x2 pro controller for it and it's amazing and the battery life is absolutely nuts, it regularly does 10h screen on time in aetheresx2 (ps2) and citra mmj (3ds). yuzu android lasts less obviously.
You can make the argument that Deck is better because it plays PC games but I just play these on my PC (duh) and stream them to my phone if I want to play them on a handheld. Deck is too slow to offer a decent quality in new games and sure you can stream to it too but then you have to suffer its dogshit cheap LCD.
Deck is a decent Switch alternative I guess or PC alternative if you're cheap but if you already have a high end phone and PC it's such a downgrade it's not worth it.
not really a shill, I hate it as much as i hate windows. im just puzzled at the insane shill campaign that happened calling it a deck killer and now that it's finally here they all disappeared
really? on Ganker i've seen Steam Deck threads triple in frequency and literal paid shills that disparage it 24/7. the Rog Ally "shills" never really existed, at least to the point of actual valve shills' accusations
there were a ton of rog threads when it was announced, now that it's out there's barely any traction...almost as if there wasn't any sort of genuine interest in the product to begin with
>Overpriced >No trackpads >moronic RGB lights
The SteamDeck has a shit screen/body ratio, low resolution and moderate specs, yet there still isn't a reasonable competitor. How?
More exciting than your crappy handheld is the fact that someone on the planet is interested in playing Armored Core V. I guess AC6 is generating hype?
maybe no one else has one
Why did the shilling die so quickly? It just came out you know.
those lights seem like it would be annoying in the dark, but i assume you can turn those off
Get some Hall effect replacements.
>5$ part
No wonder
Hmm... maybe the dead zone is too large. What an idiot, typical— OH NO NO NO. 0% dead zone. Bwahahahhahaha, but seriously, it's probably, a software thing that needs fixing.
i have a switch at home
the switch at home xDD ->
/s thanks for gold
what is this?
a bad pc?
all pc are handheld if you are strong enough.
Does anyone have both this and a Deck? Would love to hear any comparisons. I figure if I'm still using the Deck daily anyway it's probably too soon to upgrade, but I'm excited for the future of the handheld PC format and was curious about this one in particular
sees like the software is currently fricked, check back in a month or something
>microsoft funding
>steamos dualboot
lmao
You have no idea what you're on about. Anyone who's owned Asus shit, especially the ROG series of phones knows its coming.
you can dualboot on the Rog Ally tho
it won't come with a dualboot out of the gate which is what he was seemingly waiting for
ETA Prime dude booted some linux distro on it, chimera os I think.
anon, I'm not saying you can't dual boot, I'm saying it won't come with another operating system out of the factory
stay with your deck, you'll have at least 2x the battery and marginally better performance for some games at the cost of higher latency (wine/proton will unfortunately always incur this latency penalty as a result of the extra software interpretation layer so playing fighting games and rhythm games will always be fruitless n steam deck/steam os)
should i buy a deck or wait for deck 2
Deck 2 ain't comin for years.

they are about as upgradeable, which is to say: not very much
sold out around me so i'll wait for the second revision with improved battery life and steam os dual boot
What is it? A chinese bootleg Steam Deck/Switch?
well asus is chinese, so I guess so
*Taiwan
Just an fyi that most of the devices you use have some silicone chip that was fabricated in Taiwan.
>chink shit
lmao, kek, lol, rofl

so the Game Gear isn't a portable console? You fricking idiot.
I used mine for a few hours last night and I'm liking it so far. The hardware is great but the armory crate software is in dire need of an update.
When does ASUS usually announce sales performance for their devices? End of the quarter or by the end of the fiscal year?
>And why absolutely no one making threads about it except me.
Shill.
not really a shill, I hate it as much as i hate windows. im just puzzled at the insane shill campaign that happened calling it a deck killer and now that it's finally here they all disappeared

Worthless.
Well I've been playing FPSs recently so I haven't touched my Steam D-
Oh. Never mind.
can someone just make a controller with a monitor in the middle so I can get the same effect with my pc?
there's plenty of those anon, in fact your phone is the monitor, you just need to buy the controller
I heard the new update fricked with performance?
>new bios update makes everything perform worse
Why do we still tolerate ASUS again?
More exciting than your crappy handheld is the fact that someone on the planet is interested in playing Armored Core V. I guess AC6 is generating hype?
nice shilling. still playing on my steam deck.
Broke a clip replacing my Decks back plate, now I gotta replace the front plate. Frick.
