Think about how twitch works too. People watch for the streamer, not necessarily the game.
If someone with a 1000 viewers plays a shitty game then it appears higher on the list than 200 streamers playing another good game with 3 or 4 viewers each.
That also excludes numbers warped by bots and influenced by watching for X minutes to receive an item.

I kind of wish they added incentive to actually do the complicated recipes instead of just throwing in 5x of the same ingredient that gives the buff you want. I thought this was a no-brainer.

In any case, BOTW remained in the popular imagination for at least 6 years, until the launch of TOTK. It was only after TOTK was released that people realized there was nothing left to talk about the series, because after 6 years all it had managed to generate was a clone of the first game.
TOTK killed New-Zelda's popularity.
The biggest cope about totk is how people genuinely say "they added actual dungeons!"
Frick off, they're barely an evolution on a beast shrine from botw, better than botw "dungeons" but a huge downgrade from classic zelda dungeons. They still barely even have a distinct theme and they're still tucked away from the map again instead of integrated in a way that would be cool for an open world game
That's because totk has SOVL and ecelebs are soulless golems who only value games for endless constant content milkability rather than artistic merits. Totk recaptures the experience of childlike wonder, exploring and toying around with its mechanics and making enlightening discoveries you can't capture that magic, that lightning in a bottle on a regular basis in perpetuity, but the memories we as players have could very well last a lifetime
